New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

hope we get gamersyde video. Youtube quality is terrible.

You would think a company as large as IGN would realise that Youtube kills current gen's image quality and make good quality videos available for download. I'm sure IGN have only recently upgraded to 1080p on Youtube lol...

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO ANTIGUA?

:'(

I have a feeling weather will be limited to cloud cover and fog. Rain and snow make every racing game better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah really weird that they still aren't clearing that up. As usual, the AMA was a bust. A bunch of tame preselected questions that we already knew the answers to :/

The only thing I learnt was that the VW GTi is in the game and the load times are going to be "in a couple of seconds".

IGN's video player is even worse.

IGN's player usually gives me better results than YouTube if there is a 1080 option. Sadly in this case it only goes to 720, which is odd, as Evolution would have surely given them the videos in 1080.

IMO the dynamic lighting is the best of any racer EVER!

Headlights from cars behind you reflect off your bumper in chase cam and light up the interior through the rear window!

Your headlights not only affect cars and the environment but are an additive element to the ambient lighting of the environment!

Your car's headlights don't only light up the environment, but when you approach cars in front of you, the light reflects off their bumpers, all the while causing dynamic moving shadows in front of those cars!

No driving game that I know have has a combination of all these features, not even Project Cars on PC

Looks pretty but it's a bummer to see it has Gran Turismo's car bounces where you can ride corners at full speed just by smacking into others.

Day/night racing <3

C'mon Youtube, let us download the original uploaded version. We now you are stocking it somewhere on your servers.

I know streaming at high bitrate might be hard, hell give me a bittorent file for all I care.

How long until publishers and the gaming press realizes these crappy quality videos are hurting them.

I'm sure they are already talking with Facebook and Youtube to improve the actual quality. But in the mean time..

edit: But the game still looks amazing, not a fan of racing games but will definitely try it with PS+.

This is your opinion based on playing project cars on PC?

No my opinion is based on following the feature log from Slightly Mad Studios during the development of the game

If you are implying Project Cars has fully dynamic lighting+projected shadows on cars interiors+exteriors please point me to this fact!

Watching the first video, blown away by the in-car view... then switch to the chase cam and my jaw hit the fucking floor.

I eagerly await the tsunami of media!

I wonder how much content they've got stockpiled for the DLC assault? I'm guessing 3-5 new locations, +30 tracks equally divided across all locations and around 50 cars.

Highly doubt they'd have that much content built. They are not that big a team AFAIK.

EDIT: Oh wait… You were kidding weren't you?

Visually it looks damn good. I really do not think there is an example of another driving game that has as much happening in the surroundings as DriveClub does with lighting that looks as good as this. There is so much detail in the environment in this game compared to other racers. And again, the lighting is just incredible.

Sure it looks like some concessions may have been made in other departments upon detailed inspection, but truly and sincerely if you are behind the controller playing this game and can only think about the presence of some jaggies, I honestly feel for you. You have strayed very, very far from the path of what we are supposed to be playing video games for, and that is for fun and enjoyment. Neither of which are affected by the presence of some jaggies here and there, especially when everything else looks as good as it does.

With that said, I do agree with some of the statements already made about how this does not look all that much like an arcade racer anymore. The driving looked very deliberate and calculated, which are two words I do not associate with an arcade racer. I have a gut feeling this game may have a hard time carving out an identity for itself because of this, which actually really sheds some light on the fact they said the delay was mostly because of the dynamic menu system. That is no doubt going to play the largest role in establishing DriveClub's identity, not the racing itself. At least that is how it appears to me the more we see and learn.

Who the heck is the marketing lead for Sony WWS? Why are they releasing compressed to oblivion videos as their only means of showing off their games? And why is there no other means of having high bitrate (25+Mbps) video streams online?

to me it looks definately arcady.
cornering looks off

Except they said they had a impressive AA technique they'd been working on iirc. At the end of the day, JAGGIES are shit and ruin the IQ on any game. We've waited an extra 8 months and I expect this to be sorted by release or I won't be buying a full price. End of.

Oh and also, where have the SCREEN REFLECTIONS gone - does anybody know?

It's hard to tell. Fucked up youtube vids could also cause jaggies. The earlier vid looked pretty clean. But that might have been playback mode or that kind of crap

Very. Good. Points.

no, i'm not kidding.

the game was complete last year according to an ex evo employee on another forum - http://www.grcade.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=3432075#p3432075

When I left at the end of last year the game was done. All the tracks, cars, modes etc.

so a year of creating content that will be held back from the retail release for the dlc assault - they probably have a track editor suite that shits out tracks automatically given that it's one big open area, like a more advanced gt5 course creator.

so that time spent on the new locations and modelling that amount of cars at evo and studio london is not out of this world. lots of dlc is coming.

Hard to tell from Youtube compression but the lighting looks amazing. There's not a lot of that fake video game shine coat on everything.

Hmmmm… Good point.

This looks like your car reflects on the side of the car next to it, which I've never seen done before. Or at least the lights reflect creating sufficient illusion.

What happened to it being an arcade racer? It seems to play like Forza or other racing/driving sims. We already got the top Racing Sims in Forza and Gran Turismo, I want a true fun Arcade Racer like Ridge Racer since the closest things we get these days are the buggy and online crap like NFS: Rivals. I don't know, I love Racing sims that use great physics all the time, but I really miss well built arcade racers. Then again I used to be a big fan of them back in the day always playing Ridge Racer on my PSP, as well as Intial D in arcades lol.

Forza and GT are considered sims? I really like both those series, but I've always seen them as approaching the sim genre without actually reaching it. You can play either one with a controller and still be very successful.
I know what you mean about the arcade racer stuff, but Evo said from the beginning that this game would incorporate elements of sim and arcade racers.

The selling points:

-Fully connected online racing/team racing (whatever that means)
-Arcade racer that has simulator characteristics, a hybrid so to speak.
-Graphics! Global illumination, simulated clouds, day/night cycle etc.

Probably left some stuff off, but they have my 60 US dollars (50 w/ PS+)

I hope we get better XMB interconnection in the future. If our friends are playing we should be able to opt in to individual game alerts about their progress.

I don't know how to describe it other than similar to what SSX did but on a system level and controllable by us. So I can watch Netflix or play Infamous, but get alerts about my sister's actions in Driveclub, but not every friend's every action in every game.

other than the lights I don't see the car reflecting but I probably could use some glasses anyways.

We'll have to see it with a different color car. Red car and red lights is hard to determine. But i think the car is reflected too.

The lighting in this game is unprecedented. They really need to give some footage to Gamersyde though.

Not as impressed as I was with the cinematic trailer. The only part I liked was when it slowly turned to dawn and you could see more of the track's surroundings. Arms in the cockpit view looked a bit cartoony too.

5 Locations - Chile, Norway, UK, India & Canada

11 Tracks in each of these locations, which will be a combination of point to point tracks, road circuits & race tracks. I am liking the information on locations and tracks.
