Infamous: Second Son Review Thread

Sad day for me, Edge and Eurogamer are the two reviewers I pay attention to.

Still getting it nonetheless.

Edge and eurogame are always all over the place, find it hard anyone would put so muhc stock into 1 or 2 cherry picked review sites. game is geting good scores overall. peirod.

To all the Sessler haters...

I don't think his score even affects metacritic if that makes you feel any better. Do Rev3 reviews show up in any game on metacritic?

I was going to get the game no matter what, just because I need something to play on my PS4. But I'm glad the reception has been positive so far.

And I'm confused about the Sessler comments. I really didn't see anything wrong with his review.

Thats BS, whats is next gen gameplay? It doesn't exist, gameplay slowly evolves over time, it's a bs statement.

BS statement? I´m sorry, i´m not impressed by just a leap in resolution and particle systems, that´s just that, a leap in graphics expected with new hardware.

Gameplay evolves over time? Infamous 2 came out in 2011, if you take a look at I SS the gameplay is the same with just that bump in graphics. They could have focus a lot more on physics systems to offer a better immersion on the whole sandbox the game is, destructabilty is another one.
The game feels and plays exactly as the previous one in a new generation of hardware, it´s not bad but it´s not a step forward and it´s mostly dissapointing.

...What is a system seller?

Depends on the person but usually a game that gets tons of word of mouth hype and critical acclaim or one of those two. Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, TLoU etc. I know for a fact Uncharted 2 was a system seller since I personally knew people who bought a PS3 when that was released. Infamous SS will be a game on lists but not THE game to sell systems.

I think it's pretty clear; The game visually looks amazing but the gameplay is bung average, exactly what I feared from an open world game.

It scares me how much this game smells of Gravity Rush.

Being like Gravity Rush is basically the highest praise a game can receive in my eyes, so that would be great news for me.

Sad day for me, Edge and Eurogamer are the two reviewers I pay attention to.

Still getting it nonetheless.

They both gave the same score to the previous chapters (edge maybe a 6 to i2)
Edge anyway put that score for near every ps3 exclusive so this is not really a surprise

That's what you get when you get people that try to act like gamers but really aren't. you get sentences like this, "gameplay isn't as next-gen". What that means is the guy doesn't have a clue on what he's talking about and is trying to fit into the gamer community.

So basically any review that states this..

-"gameplay isn't as next-gen as the visuals"

That is a derp effect, it just so happens that the reviewer is in it so deep there is no saving him. his ways are set.

i don't think you have any idea what you're talking about

like at all

Getting really annoyed at reviewers saying it plays like a last-gen game. Wtf does this even mean and what were we expecting in next-gen gameplay?! Every other next-gen title that is out doesn't push any gameplay boundaries at all, yet isn't reflected in the reviews :S

Yeah, it's a pretty weird point to make. I always felt that next gen was more about bringing more power to consoles and expanding multiplayer abilities.

Like you said, what in the hell is next gen gameplay. Wii (U) was new gameplay wise, so is that next gen gameplay?

Sterling a 7/10, eh? That's kinda where I thought this game would land. Surprised it received as many 9's as it did. Hopefully Amazon ships my pre-order soon. I paid for launch-day shipping. Better be here waiting for me when I get home from work tomorrow.

I think, and mind you this comes from having once met Sessler and years writing reviews for video games, that there is a deep, dark secret here that no one wants to possibly acknowledge.

I think

Are you ready for this?

I think

it is possible

that Sessler liked Titanfall more than inFamous: Second Son and just because that is his opinion does not mean he has an agenda, nor does it mean you have to agree or seemingly lose your mind because it disagrees with your worldview.

This. Reviews are opinions. Glorified and center-stage opinions, yes, but opinions nonetheless. What matters is how the reviewer explains those opinions. I've always liked Sessler's reviews and Giant Bomb's reviews because both aren't afraid to use the whole scale and both explain why they gave the game what they did.

Also you can't say why did so-and-so give X game this score and Y game this? Especially when not even the same genre. Reviews are largely meant to be stand-alone. Comparing the Titanfall reviews to Infamous makes no sense.

Can't read the tweet. What does it say?

Dang that's what I get for having a protected account.

Tongue in cheek I wrote this tweet @Sess.

"@AdamSessler my livelihood is being dramatically affected by a reviewer's opinion. This will have a nominal effect on me as the consumer."

Getting really annoyed at reviewers saying it plays like a last-gen game. Wtf does this even mean and what were we expecting in next-gen gameplay?!

It seems like another way of them saying it's stale gameplay... No advances in AI, no way to interact with the environment/characters other than violence, etc.

In the case of this game, it seems it doesn't really do anything interesting gameplay wise and most of the advancement and attention has gone towards visuals.

People get rustled too easily over review scores. It's just a number and opinion. Play the game and judge for yourself. I understand if everywhere is giving a game 5's oo lower you should probably be alarmed but 8 is a great score. Not every game you like is going to be 9's and 10's. I can't wait for this tomorrow personally.

So a guy I know who bought a copy earlier than the street date and have only played it for a few minutes is now hyperventilating after seeing meta scores.

He relies on meta too much to enjoy any game and now seeing scores below 88 is making him sell his copy.

Looks about right. SP was never going to make that "10/10 award for great accomplishment in gaming" product... they deal in entertainment. Sounds like it's entertaining.

I didn't play the game yet, so I won't get mad at reviews. I'll just trust them. They seem to indicate that the game is good but not the first incredible, must-play next-gen game I was hoping this would be. Oh well. Hopefully I disagree with them! But from what they're saying, it looks like it suffers from some problems that are pet peeves of mine. I had really high hopes for Killzone and was deeply disappointed in it, it was probably my least favorite in the franchise when I expected it to be the best. I found it mediocre, it lacked polish, variety, and overall just seemed like it needed a lot more time in the oven. It looks like some of these issues, albeit not to the same degree, could unfortunately plague this game. I'm glad Drive Club has been delayed, at least.

I see a bunch of great to good review scores so far and a small handful if 7s. I'm so confused by some of the reactions in this thread. Can't wait to play this game tho!

The overreaction to good scores that aren't 9s is proportionate to the budget of the project and its supposed brand importance

Scores are better than I expected and criticisms seem reasonable enough, I don't really see the problem.
