Oh, totally forgot about this moment for a second. "If you ever get the opportunity, you should kill yourself." That was crazy.
He always does that to the perps.

Did it to Charlie Lange. "Maybe you shouldn't have showed him the pictures."

Did it to the pharmacy robber. Makes him feel he is on his side, confess and then pulls the rug underneath.

Does it again to the baby killer lady. Makes her feel that he's on her side, confess and then tells her to go off herself.

Amazing episode. I want so much to watch these characters more.

Next two weeks are going to be torture/awesome.

Anyone got a link to the episode 7 preview? Can't find it on HBO Go. edit: nm found it

I honestly thought this was the weakest episode. Aside from Maggie's stuff, it seems we didn't really see anything new about Rust and Marty, more just a continuation of the characters we already knew.

And I got super fucking depressed earlier when I realized there are only two more episodes left, and it won't be another year at least before a new season.

Man that was... COLD. Cohle, Cold oh get it now!

lol

Disappointed that Rust gave in to his base desires, but his reaction to what he did was what I expected from him.

Also the "fuck this world" I anticipated him saying.

Really well developed character.

Not the best episode, only because there has been a lot of buildup to this point, but 7 and 8 should be amazing.

So was I at first, but then toward the end of the scene I forgave him. To me it seemed that he has been in love with her the entire time, but knew she was forbidden. Then, when she made the move on him, he accepted under the pretense that she felt the same towards him. Once they were done and she was rushing out the door and he finds out he was just being used, he was furious.

I don't really think Marty is a chubby chaser like Michelle Monaghan says. Daddario wasn't chubby at all. Beth maybe had little more meat, but nothing too crazy. I don't understand why the dude keeps chasing tail after coming clean.

Beths ass

Monaghans ass

Damn

Really? I thought right after the deed Rust asked her "what are you doing here?", like she forced him to commit sin or something.

She wasn't really saying he likes big girls, she was just trying to make him feel like shit by talking about Beth.

That was after he saw her pulling up her panties and getting ready to leave. He was under the assumption that she wanted him, not just his dick.

This is the first time he's actually told someone to kill themselves though, right?

She wasn't implying the girl was chubby. B was just young and in really good shape.

Someone on IMDB nailed how Maggie and Rust even happened: "The fact that it only lasted 30 seconds shows Rust had fantasized about it for a while."

Also this episode psyched me out a lot with all the build up. In the end I think we'll look back on this as important foundational material for how Rust and Marty interact in 2012 but it left me hanging a bit. Of course it ended like a ton of dynamite but it does that every week.

Great episode. I fucking called it about the lawn, but then again it took no remarkable foresight. That was too cold, towards Rust that is, on Maggie's part and to have the nerve to call someone else a coward after doing that.

Only thing I'm worried about is if we're going to have enough time with the present day investigation. If Rust and Marty walk into Rust's storage locker and he brings him up to speed, meaning we get years of his work condensed into one scene, it's going to be abrupt, I think.

You know, Maggie never has anything but praise for Rust. Makes you wonder why she didn't give the guy an honest shot instead of that heartbreaker of a move she pull.

Don't know if this was posted already, but this is my speculation:

-Marty's daughter was abused as a kid by this group/cult/ring.
Explains:
- The male dolls around the naked barbie doll.
- The spiral drawing in the house, she saw one of the tattoos.
- Her darker personality vs. the younger daughter who seems absolutely normal, even though they essentially had the same upbringing. (A little Naive here, I know people can be different)
- Her desire to try a threesome with those boys.

Why would she? She wittingly involved Rust in her petty get-back scheme at Marty, and in the process ruined his relationship with Marty and also probably made him feel like total shit afterwards (to be used like a total chump). She used him, and she is probably very remorseful of it. It doesn't absolve Rust though. He shouldn't have went for it.

Why would she?

Because she seems to genuinely like him as a man? Like I said, for how much they instantly clicked at that first dinner and how she has nothing but nice things to say about him in 2012 it's odd that the possibility of dating Rust never even entered the equation.

Most likely because it would have been a shit thing to do for both of them behind Marty's back. It's still his daughters. Also because Rust does not forgive her for using him. He seemed mad as balls.

I thought there was no way in hell he was going to kiss her back and then of course he did it. At least now we know that Rust also can't spot "crazy pussy."

I can't fault him.

I can't.

I think what she did to Rust was out of the pain she felt and not out of any feelings she had towards him. Plus, she probably knew how he felt about her so he was an easy target for her.

edit: and the more I think about that scene, I actually do like that Rust fell for her. I think if they had shown a drunken man pushing away a desperate Michelle Monaghan it would have broken any sense of realism.

Maybe not(and he knows it, you could see he wanted none of that fight and left with a "nice hook Marty"), but that was a total asshole move by Maggie. She shows up, takes in the scene, which is to say she knows Rust has completely jumped off the wagon and generally has accelerated on his downward spiral and... well I'm just here to do what I came here to do and fuck whatever it's gonna cost this guy. Whatever pity she had after that first dinner when Rust told her about his kid is long gone, she's been blasting this poor guy for like 3 episodes straight.

Which brought Rust back to the ground for us. For all his talk of enlightenment and metaphysical, he is just like any other guy with a functioning dick. I initially thought that when this moment would come, he would not succumb to it because he always kinda looked down upon people and their miserable lives playing whatever games called life, probably coming from an "above it all" mentality to boot.

I agree with what you're saying. It's Maggie's fault completely. But Rust could have handled the situation better instead of immediately going at it like a jackrabbit.
