PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

If you like the genre, why don't you understand the appeal?

Because it looks like a throwaway (to me) flash | iOS | mobile type game ... something that doesn't have the polish or design principles as a hard corps uprising, metal slug, contra, etc.

At leas tit's not priced at $10 or whatever like some of these other ports. $2 isn't terrible, I suppose and it's better than being on PSM since it has native leaderboards and trophies.

Crazy impressive at how accurate it looks.

People do some magic stuff with LBP creation tools.

Was gonna give my physical copy of Soul Sacrifice to my bro and just play off the PS+ digital copy I have now...but that won't work will it? Save file on physical probably not being compatible with digital + physical copy needing online pass which I redeemed already @_@?

If SS saves on your memory card instead of the game cart, you should be fine. The new bubble will replace the old bubble and keep your save file. Back up your save file on the cloud just in case.

To the VitaBros: I'm ready to jump back in. GameStop shows a May release for the Vita 2000 bundle.

My question is simple. Is the 2000 worth waiting for or should I save some money and score a cheaper 1000 locally?

Reason for jumping in is simple. I play my handhelds more than console (but less than PC). More of my types of games are on them. Just that simple. I can grit my teeth and suffer through the memory card bullshit for the games.
I'm dying to know where the "cheaper" 1000s are! I've seen some bundle deals but no real cuts to the street price.

Just played KZ for the first time since its launch and it still impresses me how good it looks. I should have played it more. Maybe when the new DLC maps hit, I'll get back to it.

Coming from BF4 on PS4 and the Titanfall beta on PC, I needed a little bit to get used to the smaller Vita sticks again but after a while the controls worked well. We really need more shooters on the Vita and I am surprised that a no smaller game tried to benefit from the lack of shooters. Remote Play is no alternative because of the lag :/

You could always try downloading the game from the PS Store (remember to back up your save first!) and then see what happens. In most cases, the digital bubble usually replaces the physical bubble, but the save file is retained. I've seen this in the case of Smart As..., Disgaea 3, WipEout 2048 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Not sure about Soul Sacrifice though!

UPS just confirmed my imported white/green Vita 2000 has been delivered. Back in the game baby.

Will probably get Celceta, though for some reason I feel like playing P3P and RE2 again real bad.

Thanks guys, I'll do a spot check. Given it has an online pass though, looks like my brother will have to pony up for that so we can play online.

Oh, yeah you'll probably have to pick up another online pass. I think your brother needs to do something to the physical card though if he wants to earn trophies.

I just started replaying one of my favourite games of all time, Front Mission 3, on the Vita. Am really pleasantly surprised that they make up for the lack of l2/r2 by mapping them to the back touchpad. It took me a few seconds to find it but I really appreciate that kind of attention to detail.

well great I bought a dlc for ACIV on PS4 and checked out but it's not in my download list and the store acts like I don't own it

I think I'm going to have to contact customer service, at least my emailed receipt lists it

edit: apparently it gets added to the services list and isn't downloaded :-/

Can someone in here give me a crash course in how to get better in TxK?

I mean, I'm getting the hang of trying to shoot things, but I'm not doing well understanding how to control the game for the bonus round between stages, how to avoid the "stems" or whatever on the exiting of a stage, or how the "progression" of the game actually works in the normal mode.

Fuck it, I'm not going to force myself through any more Murfy levels just so that I can play Rayman proper. I'll wait for the PS4 version to go on sale (or better free on PS+) before playing it any more.

The bonus round between stages I can get by just with the gyro controls, but then I play sat up (thereabouts) all of the time so I don't have the orientation problem that some are having.

Avoiding the stems is easy, it's seeing the fuckers that I struggle with. Try to keep a mental picture in your mind of where they are when the stage is complete (also don't forget you can destroy them while the stage is still active) and avoid those areas when you warp.

For progression I'm not sure what you mean. Pure mode is a simple score attack, survival is much the same with extra lives removed. Classic allows you to start from any stage you've completed (it remembers your best score/life count for each level), basically allowing you to see everything the game has to offer.

Guys I got a $10 card gifted, what do you suggest to buy? Im thinking EDF Vita or Hotline, miamii, any good sale or suggestion?

March is going to be a very expensive month for me. And a lot of other gamers methinks.

Not for me. FFX/X-2 for Vita only I think.

I really haven't used my PS3 since I had it. Aside from the fact I can't properly set it up to use HDMI (tried to but I can't make it work), I don't feel like sitting in front of the TV anymore to play. I'm enjoying myself more when I play with my Vita. Maybe I can convince myself to play more with it once the HDMI setup works.

EDF! EDF! EDF!

Same. I'm struggling to keep the money in my PSN Wallet. And then there's the fight between Strider and AssCreed DLC Standalone. And then, then, I am actually actively hoping that there aren't any more indie Vita games announced for March or coming soon this month.

I agree, i'm a big fan of metal slug but this is nowhere near it, and that "true 160p" irritates me, are they not even capable of a 320x240? Ok being indie, but damn work a little more!
It's not even a good looking game, the GBA with the same resolution had games that looked like these:

Could new versions of those games be made and released for $2.

Hey, sorry to interrupt the flow of discussion, but has anyone had a message like this before?

2014-02-17-215948.jpg

I couldn't unlock the full game from the Dustforce demo (on pressing the "Unlock" button in the menu it would show a corrupt file icon in the store, and said there was no content). So I bought it manually through the web store, downloaded the full game (only took a second as I guess it just downloaded a key or something), and restarted the app.

It gives me this screen each time I start it up. It's definitely the full game, but I don't think trophies are unlocking properly. Dustforce is in my trophy list now, but it hasn't updated since I started playing (got a gold and red key, still nothing). Does anyone know what's up or how I can fix this?

Decided I was going to really dig into Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time today. Then the game crashed! Anyone know why Vita games sometimes crash?

Finished Danganronpa. Everyone needs to play this, it's the Ultimate Game of 2014.

*insert joke about slow shipping from NISA Online Store here*

Have you tried to delete entire game and re-download (aka losing the savefile)?

I have not tried this.
Goodness, whose dumb idea was it to include save files in the game data?
They were separate and could be easily backed up on PSP. How is it worse on Vita?

Hmm... If that's what it takes, I'll do it. SS ranking the forest levels again is no biggie, but it's troubling that something as simple as unlocking the full game from the demo (i.e. the very point of releasing a demo in the first place) results in such a mess. Hitbox, or Sony, or whoever's fault this is: you're lucky this game is fun =/

Thanks.
And I dropped Rayman Legends too after dealing with the daily challenge crap. I wonder if I went back now if I could get the stupid trophy for it and move on...

It's probably Hitbox's fault, since -- y'know -- they couldn't even port it competently in the first place.

I'm not quite sure how the hell you managed to get it in that state, honestly. The only time I've ever seen that is when buying a used game @ retail where someone hadn't deleted the bubble with the cart in their vita before selling/trading.

I finished Danganronpa today. 25 hours. So good. It filled the void that P4G left in me for at least that small period of time. I'm so excited for the sequel now, I just have to be careful about what websites I go on since apparently spoilers are everywhere.

What's the chance of Danganropa getting a 50% or so sale or going PS+ in the coming months? And would watching the anime spoil the game?

Yeah, it's a bit of a puzzle. Still, I'm happily going through getting SS ranks today before I can re-download tonight. Getting better all the time, and I replay levels to improve times anyway (at least your best times stay on the leaderboard regardless of personal save file).

1)in certain(most) fighting games you can spam combos that make more damage than super moves without any limitation
2)in fighting games in general if you want to have some serious fights you need to master characters...
3)...that in the case of combo-centric games means learning lots of long and weird sequences of buttons...
4)...that leads people to focus only on few characters.
2 is definitely true for every fighting game. 4 is also true, although your reasoning is a little off - it's not specifically combos, but the difficulty of learning a character to its fullest extent, that makes people specialize. Combo execution is only part of that, and it doesn't present the same barrier to everyone - to players who are already "good" (for lack of a better word) at execution, degree of difficulty the character's executional requirements is unlikely to be a reason for not playing him/her/it.

I don't know what you mean by "spam" in 1. If you mean the initial hit it takes to confirm into a combo, then you should possibly find better players to play against. Combos do indeed do more damage than normal hits, although I'm not sure why you think that's bad.

3 is subjective. I think BlazBlue's combos are weird as hell to do, while SF4's combos are understandable and MvC3's are easy. They're only weird when you don't know how to do them, after all.

Buy used!

0 ≤ p ≤ 1

Okay, now you are making me regret not buying it during the sale. Only a little bit though.

hmm it's really pretty good. it feels better than the demo. but hmm. (this does not make sense)

okay VitaGAF, I bought both Danganronpa and Toukiden!
now for Ys Celceta Digital to go on sale...

man there's FFX/X-2 HD too

EDIT: no Japanese Voiceover for BoZ?

couldn't find it on the EU store so probably only US for now.

edit: yay, finally became a Member!

You just noticed? IIRC you became a member yesterday.

Nice. Visit the OT. :D

running out of budget really @_@
too many Day1 purchases

Haha yeah.

I'm changing plans myself. I'll probably stop buying day 1 for a while until I've finished my games first. Who knows by the time I buy it there might be a sale. Toukiden was an exception since online multi is emphasized. Helps my wallet too.

backlog is a bitch.
