PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4/PSP) | February 2014

Not even GAF can convince me to buy Toukiden, especially now that the expansion might be announced soon. The last Vita game I bought was Tearaway, and I don't plan on buying anything until Miku is released in March.

Edit: My first top of the page post in a long time. Go buy Hatsune Miku Project Diva f on March 4 so that Sega continues to localize awesome Vita games!

This is messed up lol. Isn't Project Diva f 2nd out in japan already? How is that any different from Toukiden?

*Feels ignored*

Hmmmph.

Hugs Laughing Banana.

Project Diva is great guys. Buy it on my behalf. Can't buy that on day one because of reasons.

Unlike Toukiden. Project Diva f and f2 has different content in them. It is not an expansion pack. So if ZeroAKA buys f, he won't feel bad if f2 comes since they have different songs in them. Pretty smart decision from Sega.

Because Toukiden isn't Hatsune Miku? I don't understand the question.

Because isn't pdf 2nd an expansion to pdf?

Well yeah. Game changer I guess. I'm really excited for PDf too because apparently DJ Max is dead. I gotta have my rhythm fix.

----

I guess GAF can't convince you since you weren't interested in the first place.

Just know that if ever you buy it, I'll be happy to play with you. :D
I'm waiting for the second to be out so that I can play both at the same time. I'm the type of person who would rather watch a TV season all at once rather than wait for a new episode every week. :P
What if a 3rd one comes out? lol

You haven't bought Danganronpa? For shame!

The trend of almost every hunting game in recent years getting expansions made me hesitant to pick it up, and that seems to have been the right decision. I'll most likely buy Toukiden Extreme at launch.

What if a 3rd one comes out? lol
It doesn't exist yet, so I'm fine with that possibility. Now if 999 gets that iOS release in the US App Store already so that I can get to VLR...

So I actually beat that Batman game last night. Once I got used actually being able to read the map it turned into a mostly fun game. Part of the problem with the game was that the best method of traversal was not available in my playthrough until the last 2 hours. If all the game had been as clever and fun to move through as those last 2 hours it would have been great. Instead I was a strangely limited Batman who couldn't get over even very simple obstacles for the most part.

Still, very worth my time, and not at all a 'bad game'.

Now, I wanna get Danganronpa or Toukiden but I'm a bit torn. Toukiden is the most Mon-Hun like of the Mon-Hun games to come out on Vita yes?

I hated Mon-Hun... so I'll probably just end up with Danganronpa.

Or just wait on Project Diva f.

hahaha xD

It's not like we're ignoring you. When we play online its pretty much on impulse once somebody asks in the OT. You wanna play right now?

I always have trouble playing with people from Europe, and the only smooth online experience so far is with EldameI. I hope we can played it fine since we literary neighbour and not separated by ocean or continent lol

You could try the demo first and judged it by yourself. Compared to MH shitty demo, Toukiden is pretty good at representing itself via demo.

Yeah, Try the demo. It feels like a good way to introduce yourself to the game aside from the small inventory limit. If you don't like lengthy dialogue games DR might not be for you. It is a fun, wacky game, I tell you. It also has a pretty messed up setting.

Support Localizations, buy a PDf! If you don't like the touch based controls of DJMAX (and Cytus) this is a good alternative. How they integrate the touch controls during gameplay adds challenge and is not just there for the sake of just using it.

I love me some VLR and 999 and Corpse Party so I think Danganronpa is a pretty sure bet even if it's not exactly the same. I'm mostly worried about Toukiden because people have been calling it more of a pure Monster Hunter style of game... I guess I could try out the demo, but I'd have to make room on my card... or DL it on my EU card. That said, I did kind of dig Soul Sacrifice for the 2 hours that I was able to play before getting terribly bored with it.

I do plan on picking up Project Diva f, if only because I don't have a game of it's type on the Vita yet and I want to help convince Sega that the US Vita audience is ready and willing to accept the bounty of PSO.

March is going to be a very expensive month for me. And a lot of other gamers methinks.

Yes - I'm getting FF X/X-2 , project Diva, Stick of Truth and Diablo expansion.

The same, but replace Stick of Truth with Infamous: SS.

I'll pick up the Stick of Truth later.

That damn Diablo expansion is probably going to be the one that eats up most of my proper gaming time too. Fucking Blizzard! *shakes fist*

I'm getting PDf, Danganronpa, FF X/X-2 HD, FFXIII-LR, and Bravely Default by March.

I hope my wallet can keep up.

Just sell a kidney, you've got two!

I for one plan not eating.

My Vita is suppose to be here tomorrow or something...

I'm gonna download Sumioni on it because I have always wanted it and it's only $10.

I got a 30 day trial to GameFly and I put DJ Max Technica Tune on it.

What other games do y'all recommend? I know this is the PSN thread but just curious :)

Also waiting for Shinobi Versus :P

If it helps any, I skipped 999 and I'm not having trouble understanding VLR. So if worst comes to worst you should be OK to play it y itself.

Stopped playing indies awhile ago on my PC and can't wait to catch up on some on my Vita. The ones coming out or rumoured to come out look crazy good. Risk of Rain and potentially Broforce! Is Arrowfall only PS4 or Vita too?

Risk of Rain is so good that I will buy it again, almost 100% certain. The idea of finding co-op partners more easily than I can on Steam is really enticing. I just hope it's not like Rogue Legacy where I play enough of it prior to the port being released where I then lose interest in having it on Vita.

See, I watch that trailer and think the opposite; I don't understand the appeal and I like the run & gun genre.

I agree, i'm a big fan of metal slug but this is nowhere near it, and that "true 160p" irritates me, are they not even capable of a 320x240? Ok being indie, but damn work a little more!
It's not even a good looking game, the GBA with the same resolution had games that looked like these:
metroid-fusion-screens-625x625.png
metal-slug-screens-625x625.png

Heh. Love that last word on the Gunslugs trailer - BUTTONS.

Looks damn good enough to me for the $2 PS+ price. Reminds a bit of Alien Homind. Love that game. Wish Behemoth would ink someone to port their titles to PS platforms.

Metroid and Metal Slug are hardly analogous to this game in terms of relative team size, budget etc.

There is a new official PS+ commercial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnN6DFr4Rbs

I don't get it. I don't even know to what games they are referring with most of the live action stuff.

SCEA will run ads for PlayStation Plus, but hasn't advertised Vita outside of the internet since 2012. smh

Why didnt they port Skullgirls encore to the PS4?

now that the PS4 is x86 based shouldnt a simple port from the existing PC version in 1080p 60fps be super easy, even for a small team like this?

just so dissapointing because i dont have my PS3 anymore and im starved for some fighting games

I think injustice is terrible and i see not fighting games on the horizon so its depressing but theres no way im going back out and re-buying a ps3 again

just seems like releasing it only on the PS3 in the year 2014 is so weird but maybe its just me... hungry for a fg so bad

Skullgirls Encore wasn't released by choice. The original game has been removed from PSN (and XBL) due to a publishing dispute, so the team hurried to get another version out there.

2 bucks is pretty good. Along with Wolf Fang last week, I'm pretty happy with some of the 2D shooter love shown as of late :) Anyone ELSE in this thread buy Wolf Fang? I'm always sad games like that seem to fall through the cracks in PSN threads.

Of course, those games were made by larger, more experienced teams, often used re-created assets from older releases, and asked for something like 17 times the price of Gunslugs non PS+ price.

For me, it looks good for a game that's trying to offer a depth of content. Simpler graphics for more of a focus on gameplay, multiple characters, unique enemies and bosses, bonus stages, etc.

Do the few indie games that look like HQ Neo Geo / 32 Bit Sprite work ever seem to do any better than the cheaper to produce, cheaper to sell games out there? The buyers market doesn't really seem to make such games worth producing, sadly :(

To the VitaBros: I'm ready to jump back in. GameStop shows a May release for the Vita 2000 bundle.

My question is simple. Is the 2000 worth waiting for or should I save some money and score a cheaper 1000 locally?

Reason for jumping in is simple. I play my handhelds more than console (but less than PC). More of my types of games are on them. Just that simple. I can grit my teeth and suffer through the memory card bullshit for the games.

Obviously, but the situation is not the same, those are old games that run on a old and weak hardware, in 2014 with 1080p on hd consoles and 544p on Vita, powerful hardwares, more accessible and powerful tools etc, you can't develop such a limited and bad looking low res game imo, those exact two games are now way easier and cheaper to do on today's pc or console, there are many good looking indie 2d games with higher resolutions.

Does it cost 2$/€? I guess i can't complain too much, but with 2€ i bought these(full price IIRC):

Eh. Personally I'm of the opinion that the 2000 isn't worth paying more than the original model, and the original model is damn cheap these days, so you can put more money towards a bigger memory card.

Two years to three years at least from now I think. Sony official statement said that they gonna support PS3 for years to come, but many efforts are actually directed to fill PSN for PS4. I don't think we would ever see any indie game for PS3 again if Sony push the developer to release them for PS4.

Patapon is a lost cause. After they turned it into 2D Rythim Hunting Game, I don't care about Patapon anymore.

There is none at the moment beside games that only listed as "2014" releases that might be released at that timeframe....but lets hope that Sony will surprised us

PSP's PlayStation Store is still up, but a lot of that content is mirrored on Vita.

I understand that the flow of new content will go down. All my concern is I buy a game in PSN, will the single player component be accessible even after 2-3 years down the line ? If I current console die and I got a new one and used the same psn login, will get all the digital content and can download from sony server ?

I would've loved to have bought Cloudberry Kingdom but they never released a Vita version : / Doesn't even have to be Crossbuy, but no vita version equals no buy. I play almost all of my indie/DD games on the vita even when I already have PC versions. The little machine feels perfect for that stuff.

Flappy Bird is finally on Vita https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5YH3F9FvSs

I doubt Sony will take down PS3's PlayStation Store within the next three years. Content may start to vanish as publishing licenses expire, but if they're in your download list you should be able to download them regardless.

Is the persona 3 FES ps2 classic that was recently added to the EU PSN 60hz or optimised? I'd like to know before I buy

A quicks earch seems to yield that it is only 50 Hz.
You can always grab it off US PSN by making a US account.

I got a few ppl on my Friends list that randomly added me and their levels range from 26-50.

I checked out their trophies and they have a crazy amount of plats (one guy has 178). I just figured they are trophy hunters.

I checked out their trophies.... and they don't make sense to me. One guy plat both GoW2 and Sly 1. The first trophy won in either game is beating a boss (Sly) or acquiring a power (GoW2). Yet with Sly you get a trophy for just starting the game, and you get one very early in GoW2 but both those trophies are further back on their "earned date" list.

Are they cheating/hacking? What am I missing?

Depends, I would wait, touch a Vita 2000 and then make the call. Only thing I don't like about my current model are the L and R triggers.

I should have returned it for a switch out, but they were in such limited supply in SC I held onto it from launch, but mine float and move and are sometimes are unresponsive.

I am going to wait till I can get my hands on one, then decide if I will be transplanting to the new model, my thoughts and plans at least.

No PSN content has ever "vanished". Any PSN content that was ever delisted (meaning: it was removed from the store and you can't buy it anymore) is still available to download indefinitely from your download list.

There is really no need to worry about PS3 content going away, there is basically no reason to believe it will ever happen, right until the day that PSN as a whole will be terminated.

There may eventually be a point where stores for discontinued consoles will be shut down. But even then, the download list will most likely still be unaffected, you just won't be able to get new stuff anymore.

You are also pretty delusional if you think that Sony will discontinue the PS3 any time soon. It still has many years of 3rd party support left, just like any "obsolete" PlayStation console has ever had (the PS2 was ended in 2013, and the PSP is still supported to this day and still has new games coming for it at retail in Japan).

Gunslugs is $1.99 PS+, $2.49 regular price, yup.

3D games are weird, because often times the better looking the 3D, the more generic it's art style, or simpler it's gameplay. I feel the same kind of "give and take" with "Total Recoil" and (other games you posted, I forget it's name!), in that they put one element forward, and another is more plain than I'd like.

3D gets cheaper (less expensive software, better quality free tools and assets), but as there are less and less 2D sprite artist out there than there were for the 2D focused eras, they seem to have become a premium due to scarcity.

Tribute Games and Zeboyd are the few I can think of that are small, yet consistently make games with better and better sprite work in each release. KOTANI on Yatagarasu actually worked on KoF, and even his small team seems like they were only able to make awesome character sprites, and had to skimp on the backgrounds, even with something like 4 / 6 years of dev on the game.

At least Orange Pixel's next game "Heroes of Loot" (which is also coming to Vita, apparently) looks better than Gunslugs, and like they finally started to get more of a "style" to the in game art, even if it is still mostly simple. I think it can stand out on it's own, and goes past "bad programmer art" to being "competent, appealing, simple art".

When 2D was the norm, increased-quality graphics were demanded to stand out. Engines and gameplay were largely set, so they had to iterate artistically.

But now, just being 2D makes you stand out enough, and most smaller devs seem less interested in the art, and much more interested in getting a game out, and making an income, so they can try and make game development into their main moneymaker.

I wish we saw more 2D indies work like the "Arkedo" series, where they made games with appealing, well-realized styles, that were fairly simple, in a few weeks time, while still working on bigger, more ambitious titles. But considering how things turned out for them after Hell Yeah!....

I wish I could sell you my PS3 copy, and have it turn into a Vita one! That's one of those 2D games that even though it's more "technically" impressive than Gunslugs, I just... couldn't stand it's look, and it's gameplay felt very bad, for me. Probably my biggest regret from falling for a PSN sale.
