BEWARE: SFV saves are not stored into Capcom's servers

So I recently formatted my hdd. I already knew SFV has no cloud support, but I thought my progress was stored into Capcom's servers.
Well, I was wrong. The ONLY things stored here are LP, Fight Money and Zenny.
Nothing else, even colors are erased if you lost your save.
EDIT: It seems colors are still here, just do an online match if you can't find them. Your scores are lost anyway.

I thought to open a thread since it can be helptful for some people, make a back-up of your save if you need to format your hdd.

Wut. Is SFV an online only game? If not why would you expect anything but the bare online stats to be stored on their servers? That shit isn't free you know...

Colours are not erased. I had to format my PC last week and all of my colours were still available once I went online.

Well, my condolences for the lost save.

I dunno if it supports this particular game, but I'd suggest using an automated solution like gamesave manager to move your saves onto an online drive periodically (and more importantly, automatically).

I wouldn't expect anything other than LP, Fight Money and Zenny to be stored on their servers. I don't see why anyone would think otherwise.

Even if most of your player data is stored on Capcom's servers, it's super lame to not have Steam cloud support of there's anything local to be lost.

What else is there really to save other than colors?

Fight Money is really the important thing

The intro tutorial, maybe story progression, maybe the clears on survival. Seems like colors stay unlocked though.

Zen and Fight Money being stored server side makes sense. You can't collect those unless you are online. I tried redoing my Fight Name by deleting my save files and nothing much changed other than the tutorial, as I didn't mess with the story or survival due to my name being my steam user digits.

Huh, interesting. What about your Fight Money? That being stored on the servers actually makes sense given that you can use said FM for DLC characters.

This game is really a big joke, well down Crapcom.

Yeah this is that final nail in the coffin, time to get a refund. /s

In seriousness, my sympathies to your lost colors OP, the struggle for those is no joke. At least you still have your money though, which is the most important thing.

There's no steam cloud support in fact.

Umh, I have no access to my colors. Is it a bug?
Of course I completed the tutorial again to check my unlocks etc.

Not sure, but I can freely use SFV on my laptop and PC, both have all colours intact. If I unlock a title or colour on one machine, it automatically appears on the second machine, etc.

Lack of steam cloud support is sucky.

Them not saving all your shit on their own servers seems normal.

Wait, wut?

I don't even own the game and it's providing entertainment with its baffling omissions. It's a shame because I hear the gameplay is solid.

I play on both my laptop and desktop.

The unlocked content is stored on the server side, I had all my alternative colours on both. It doesn't save your scores/completion rates, however. Those are on your machine.

You also cannot re-earn money from story mode, so don't try to delete your save files to earn extra cash. It doesn't work!

So you don't lose colors?

If not then there's no need for Steam cloud.

You can press Start to skip the intro tutorial completely no need to actually do it. No point in playing story if you already have the fight money for it, or you can spend 10 mins and beat the entire story mode for everyone. ONLY thing to get mad at is if the colors didn't save because survival can be a pain.

Checked it now, apparently after I did a match online, colors came back.
Well, I still lost my story and survival progress. I think also achievements stats resetted (like do 300 critical arts etc).

A brand new game getting a full release on Steam in 2016 by a major publisher and it has no Steam Cloud support?

This may be the most indefensible thing I've read yet. Early AAAccess indeed. Still probably my favorite fighting game at launch, just for the gameplay.

Fight Money is all safe. The only thing that does NOT cross over is survival complete times. e.g-If I do Ryu's Easy on one system, it will not show that I completed it on the second system, even though the colours all unlock.

Word of caution however, DO NOT TRANSFER SAVE DATA FROM ONE MACHINE TO ANOTHER. I repeat, DO NOT DO IT. It will cause your SFV game to auto minimise on launch and there is nothing you can do to fix it. Changing the launch parameters to -fullscreen -borderless will fix the issue, until 2 minutes later the FPS drops down to 10. The only solution I found was to actually format my PC. Re-installing SFV, verifying the local cache, re-installing Nvidia drivers, disabling services....nothing worked. You have all been warned.

Well, even all Souls games came with no cloud support at all (and it's very bad losing your save here).
Other games like Wolfenstein have no cloud too, even if it'a a very easy thing to implement and it costs nothing to devs.

Holy crap, that's awful.

Sorry about your lost progress, OP. Losing saved data always sucks.

The no Steam Cloud thing made me go "Buh-whaa?," but then I realized that I have no idea how any of that works. I know there a lot of games that don't have it, but I assumed that many of the newer higher-profile games all had it. I also thought that it was just a thing that steam did, and didn't know if the game devs had to do anything really (except maybe pay them?).

...whoa

The game already keep track of the things mentioned in OP server side, it just only care about them from a fight money perspective. It keeps track of your story mode completion and the levels you finished in survival mode but only so you don't get fight money for finishing them again.

It's an issue of the game not using the server side data to calibrate your local save, even though the resources are there for it. Granted this isn't something Capcom said they would implement, they would probably add it down the line.

I transferred saves between machines with no issues. You sure something else is not going on?

I've tested it with two machines and two other accounts, same issue. Right now my work laptop is suffering the same problem. Even deleting the save data doesn't help. I can keep diagnosing it but I'm out of ideas. I'm going to record it in action.

I don't get what the big deal is. FM, LP, and colors are stored on the servers. What else should be saved server sided?

Weird. I was moving a save back and forth when I was working on survival modes on different machines initially before I gave up on it. I probably didn't even need to, I guess.
