Yup, you guessed right! It's been quite a while since the last 3DS update that wasn't just stability... March, actually.

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Nintendo must have some crazy QA engineers to be able to find stability issues so consistently when I've seen nothing that would qualify as such after 3+ years of having it.

now waiting for the green light / GW update so I can grab that sweet MHX demo from eShop next week
 
It's really disheartening when Nintendo is clearly far more interested in stopping any potential homebrew or piracy than giving paying customers new features.

They'll patch an exploit within a week or two but heaven forbid we get some new mii plaza features or something that adds value.
 
saying this incase rich! hasnt shown up, Dont update if you got homebrew on your 3ds and you want to continue to use it, until an update says so in that homebrew thread.

lol yes it actually is. As long as you don't keep downloading these updates, it's been region free for a while now.

I'm referring to Homebrew Launcher, of course. They have a region free launcher app. Like I said though, you need to not have updated for a while or own Cubic Ninja cartridge.

Patching vulnerabilities is typically high priority, and, in some cases, pretty low effort as well. It makes sense that it would happen pretty often. Feature development takes more time, and since the 3DS is nearing the end of its life, is not as high a priority. There's not really many more features that make sense to add at this point. At this point, I wouldn't really expect any new features for 3DS that aren't directly related to new network services.

Disheartening? I think you're only person expecting a 4 year old system to somehow still have new features come out for it. It's a pretty odd expectation.
 
goddamn!

i needed to use some eshop codes while the firmware was still current and homebrew was working fine and now this happens.
i should have used the codes yesterday.

anything changed with homebrew?

edit: speaking of useful features they could add, they could add remote SD Card management to the old 3DS. taking out the SD Card is still rather annoying overall.
 
Did they fix the thing where you can't use wifi that requires logging in through a browser? Have been unable to use the 3DS at my uni for months.
