What's so good about MK8\smash?

Sounded like bullshit considering my Wii U has given me multiple notifications about Smash directs and the more recent Smash sale.

I wish there was a ban on "I demand you explain why (popular game) is enjoyed by many persons!" threads. If you made it to Gaf, you are very likely familiar with a large number of gaming sites and communities within Gaf that have every update about any of these big games. It just comes off as concern trolling.

On Topic: Smash/Kart prior to online iterations, could be relatively boring games if you didn't have friends to play them with, so I could see someone missing out on a few iterations of both series.

This is pretty fucking sad, making a thread to stealth gloat about not liking Smash or Mario Kart. Really OP?

Well, he is AntiFacebook after all. Maybe he's just one of those people that hates everything the masses love and never stops constantly reminding you of that.

Yeah, these games are basically all about multiplayer. Can't imagine playing solo.

There is nothing more fun than getting a group together, eating pizza, drinking beer, and playing hours of SSB and Mario Kart all while laughing and trash talking each other.

It's what these games were made for.

I guess you just got introduced into Detective GAF because that was some damn fine work :-D

Well that was like Scrub level detective GAF from everyone ITT, right? None of us even had to leave GAF to find discriminating posts of OP and he didn't even bother to edit his old posts mentioning Smash :P

What the fuck? People are so strange.

What's so good about Smash? Nintendo.

What's so good about MK8? Nintendo.

Theyre great games. Especially if you have friends. Which in this case...

None of my friends play video games.
How does the online experience compare to the local multiplayer?

OP's hatred of MK/SSB is so big it forced him to make this thread.
This thread is doomed since OP found it funny to lie to GAF.

I don't know what's great about Mk8. Played it and didn't like it anywhere close to Double dash.

Now for smash its definitely the ease of entry it has compared to most fighters. One of the few games I know of where if you and your friends are all putting in the same effort. You'll stick to the same skill level. Which is part of the reason at least for me it stays so fun. Won't lie though without friends of any kind . I wouldn't bother much with smash though.

If you are genuinely curious (which I cannot say I think you are) Mario Kart 8's online has been amazing. I have two friends who have a Wii U and I go over their house from time to time to play. I have never encountered lag and it's always incredibly fun. Also it can be frustrating since Mario Kart is known for rubber banding. But if you're not too set on winning it's a fun experience. Though, its a wonderful feeling playing local multiplayer with a few buddies sitting right next to you -- unless Nintendo eventually releases a fully supported microphone I don't think the online multiplayer can exceed the fun had during local play.

Smash Bros Brawl had notoriously terrible online. I wouldn't recommend someone purchase that game if you have no friends for local play. The Wii U version and the 3DS version seem to have fixed that issue for the most part. Most people in America have been playing against people in Japan with no issues. 4 player online battles though have yet to go without problem.

In general Smash has yet to prove that it can be just as fun to play online as it is to play local ... but to be honest I don't think it ever can be. Mario Kart has that ability though.

Smash Bros is like a tribute to everything Nintendo and a very good one at that.

Mario Kart is just plain fun.Although I can't help but feel cheated every time I lose in Mario Kart :( 1st place last lap so close to the finish line only to get blue shelled, then knocked by incoming karts then green shelled and then im in 10th place... WOO!

Troll/Hater account confirmed.

Which game will help the Wii U more, Smash Bros or Mario Kart 8?

Nothing that great about Mario kart really. Can be fun with friends but that's about it. The game has barely evolved in the past 10 years. SSBM is prob the greatest party game ever, fun but also has depth unlike MK

It's what these games were made for.

I recommend washing your hands after eating pizza lest you greasify your controllers.

If you grew up with traditional fighters like Street Fighter, MOrtal Kombat etc. you may not like Smash. I know I don't, it's just a bit too crazy/messy/hectic for my liking.

Funny I grew up with those very same fighters, and not only do I love smash I actually enjoy it more than those though I still like them.

why are people still answering "seriously" in this thread?
What's the point of a particular thread if not to discuss the topic it generated? Yeah it got derailed, but it's not an invalid question and there are other posters/lurkers who may benefit from the on-topic discussion.

When that's no longer the case is when threads tend to get locked. Just because the OP's claims look questionable doesn't mean the topic should be ignored.

OP you need to take a trip to here:

For your follow up thread, how about "What's so good about Uncharted" or "What's so good about Halo"

They're easy to pick up and play and they're fun? Plus there's challenge there for people who want to play more competitively (moreso for Smash, but it's there for Mario Kart).

Lol. What intrigues me in Smash is that I know every single character but there's this guy with a moustache. I owned every Nintendo system and I guess there's a game with him. You guys know something?

They look great, are fun to play and feature characters that most people (that own Nintendo consoles) know and love.

Plus both have a bonus which is that almost anyone with some basic gaming skills can pick them up and start having fun, yet they have enough depth for you to get better and requiere skill if you really want to be one of the best.

And most importantly, they are a blast to play with friends and both feature 4 people local multiplayer

So what exactly was the point of this thread, OP? It's clear that you have heard of Super Smash Bros, because you would have had to have the attention span of a baboon to never have known about it. Did you just want to show to the rest of NeoGAF how cool you are because you don't play popular franchises?

Yeah, I don't get it.

I've never understood this thing that always happens on GAF where someone feels the need to make a thread to brag that they don't like something popular. News Flash - there are other people who don't like Mario Kart or Smash Bros. Just like there are people who don't like TLOU, Dark Souls, and Platinum games. Not everyone has the same tastes, and you are not some special snowflake because you don't have a mainstream opinion.

As for the "why" people like Smash and MK, it's pretty simple - they're easily accessible party games that even people who don't care for games can enjoy.
