I used to play this all the time back when I was DJ'ing in my student days. Some will stan the Norman Cook remix, but really Derrick Carter's mixes are where it's at



edit: might as well paste this, this is a mix I did early last year to cheer up my friends a bit during the pandemic, it's a pretty decent snapshot of the parties we used to throw as students. There's an annoying bit at the end where the music is out of sync for a minute or two which I can't fix anymore on account of deleting the file.

Damnit haven't heard this one in years, and never knew it was Crystal Waters! Production's slightly too slick for my taste but that's a great vocal man. Real house.

UB-40 would probably be more appropriate in the Reggae thread. I had to live through this shit while clubbing in S. Korea and the 90s and now everyone here does too. I can't wait for a thread to break out Enya's Return to Innocence and the song that made me hate the Smashing Pumpkins, 1979.

Is that a UB-40 slam? I can't really tell but Rat in mi Kitchen is not terrible IMHO.

Maybe I'm a nitpicker but Ace of Bass is not house music, and I don't mean it's not 'real' house music, it's not even cheesy as fuck lowest common denominator house music. It's a Eurodance/Pop/Reggae type thing. Also, you're thinking of Enigma.

Not a lot of house music in the clubs I frequented but that Ace of Base shit was everywhere. Enigma is correct, not sure how I confused it.

Actually I can readily imagine, they both have that new-agey pseudo-spiritual thing going and both use waaay too much reverb (these are somewhat related)
