XSX controller vs PS5 controller - opinions welcome!

DualSense is the first PlayStation controller I haven’t wanted to set fire to. I really like it, except for the crappiness of the internal battery. Don’t care about the gimmicks though. They add nothing - I see people saying every gun feels different in R&C and I just don’t get it…

Series X controller still just feels like an extension of my arms though. Perfect design.

Use both. The DualSense is superior in pretty much every way. Feels more premium. Better built. Love the haptics. Series X controller is perfectly okay, but feels very last gen in comparison.

It's so funny people think there is only one right or wrong when it comes to stick placement. Both are within the natural range thumb motion. It all comes down to personal preference or what you are used to.

As for the controller, I prefer the Dualsense over the Xbox controller. That being said, I have only tried the xbox one and the elite 1, not the xsx. Is it any better or different?

By the way I would like to see a remake of this:

I love the clicky D-pad on the new Xbox controller but I grew up with microswitches on all my old digital joysticks so the noise doesn't bother me.
Sony's pads have always felt decent enough in the hand but I can't get on with the symmetrical sticks.
All the other stuff they both offer, rumble etc isn't anything I would miss if it wasn't there but these are the words of a decrepit old fart.

I always like these threads because you just know there are construction dudes who talk about which cordless drill they prefer, the Milwaukee brushless 18v or the DeWalt 20v max.

"Oh my Gosh my hands hurt after using the DeWalt for more than 30 minutes." - Men, probably
I prefer my Metabo 18v hammer drill over anything else. Also Metabo has a lifetime warranty.

I have both and to me they are almost identical in feel, but some people say it is other league.
I use XBONE controller on PC, feels the same, maybe less sturdy. And yeah it lacks "screenshot" button :)

xbox controller has always been a very good comfortable controller but i have to give it to dualsense simply for the innovation and bringing in new tech. this is what a new generation is all about. dualsense is also a very solid weighty controller, which gives it that premium feel.

There is something more alluring about the dual sense. The xbox controller is fine, but MS need to raise their game - they played it safe this gen.

1. Xbox Elite V2
.
.
.
.
2. Anything else

If u have an elite 2 without any problems
The elite 2 is a thousand times better than any other controller.
The first time u hold an elite 2 it's a legit holyshit moment , it's that good, dualsense and xsx sucks in comparison.
So continuing with ur example op ,
If sx controller is a Ford f150 , and dual sense is a buggati , elite 2 is like a fighter jet lvl of an upgrade

Is elite 2 really that different than XSX|S controller? What are the differences? I really want to know.

XSX controller for me. While it's not very innovative, I think it's finally perfected the Xbox controller that started with the 360. The d-pad is near perfection and everything just feels solid. On top of that, it has great battery life.

While innovative, the PS5 controller feels bulky to me and the idea of using the type of plastic they did for the d-pad and buttons feels odd. It's almost like glass and doesn't feel good at all to me. The new rumble is cool as is the trigger gimmick but I honestly prefer the PS4 controller for comfort.

I had both the Elite and Elite 2 controller and when I randomly tested a XSX controller at Best Buy, I immedietly sold them. The d-pad on the XSX is that good and it's my main controller for PC alongside the XSX itself. And yes, I also have a PS5 so I'm not just fanboying.

XSX controller is much better in some aspects:

- Grip
- Better D-pad
- Better build quality
- Better triggers and shoulder buttons

Besides the new buttons, though I don’t make use of them.

However I gotta say the clicky sound drives me crazy, I’d like to know if this is like that because of design, I mean for a purporse, because I can’t understand how Q&A slipped this.

On the other hand, the Dual Sense it’s clearly an improvement over the DS4, but though it has some cool features, it feels cheap, and the battery life still sucks. I don’t get the praise for the rumble feedback feature in Ratchet since I found it annoying, maybe I’m just getting old and I rather play game with a more classic or traditional controller features, but I didn’t like it.

The XSX controller is pretty much identical to the OG Xbox One controller imo.

There is a nicer upgrade going from the Elite 1 to Elite 2 controller though.

And since recursive recursive likes controller porn..

DualSense is the best controller ever made and it's not close.

The Series X controller is basically the Xbox One controller with no new features and extremely annoyingly loud clicking buttons that make it feel like you're using some cheap third-party knock-off controller.

The Switch Pro controller is second place to the DualSense.
The wii u gamepad is better than the dualsense.

Let's put it this way, I just bought a Brook Wingman controller adaptor to use the PS controller on XB.

I don't mind the PS5 pad, but I find my hands ache after a while on it. I perfer the PS4 pad to both next gen ones.

Dual Sense (Next gen controller)

DS4 ( scrotum paddle attachment is nice too)

I get preferences. I don't get "Holding this piece of plastic designed to be as ergonomic as possible by Sony or Microsoft gives me grade 4 migraine headaches that keep me inside with shades drawn for days."

I'd give it to the DualSense.

I absolutely love the form factor of the Series X controller, but it feels very basic in terms of features. It doesn't even have gyro which surprised me a bit.

Back paddles, the trigger stops, manually adjusting the stick tension ,
+ You would think with all the features it would be heavy or ergonomically uncomfortable but it's an absolute joy to hold.

Dualsense > 360 > DS4 > PS2 > OG Xbox > GameCube > Xbox One/Series

Sorry but the Series and One controllers just seemed to have lost something after the 360 for me personally. I play games with them and they just don’t have that connection to the game like I want.

This thread really makes me want an Elite V3. For me, I prefer the xbox controller. Hated the Dualshock 3. The 4 was okay if you upgraded the thumbsticks. Dualshock 5 is far and away the best sony controller ever. It's just a smidge behind the xbox series and elite for me. Sony needs to release the back button attachment for it!

They're both great controllers though the DualSense is the most next-gen. It just feels amazing when properly implemented. My frustration is that so very few titles actually support its features, much less well. It kind of surprises me that the Xbox controller feels smaller, and to my shock I've been mainly playing on my Series X for the past several weeks. The clicky dpad is sometimes annoying, especially when typing quickly to friends. I appreciate the capture button, and options as far as battery is concerned.

I do really hope Spencer was on to their future plans in regards to incorporating DualSense features into the Xbox pad. As much as I want an Elite V3, I'd rather see DS features come first.

Never used a Dual Sense, but the features sound interesting. If the haptic feedback is anything like HD rumble on Switch then it's ok, not something I want to pay a premium for, but ok. The triggers sound cool, so long as you can turn that shit off when you need to for accessibility and competitive MP.

Offset sticks for life though, every single Xbox controller going back to the Duke has been more comfortable than any Playstation controller I've owned going back to before the Dual Shock. I'll buy a PS5 eventually, but the stick placement will still be uncomfortable.

Replaceable AA batteries will always be superior to internals. Nobody who makes this argument suggests using disposables, but I still get 40 hours per charge on the Enerloops I bought 5 years ago for my XBone.

I find it super easy to swap between controllers. I'm not sensitive to stick positioning etc. It's really hard for me to have a preference, but the most important thing for me is how it fits the curvature of my hands.

If I had to choose out of the new consoles Xbox wins for me (especially Xbox Pro Controller). Xbox fits my hands better, I prefer the battery life and overall feel. If I am playing "seriously" or need to perform the best of my ability I will need the Xbox controller.

However, if I am playing a single player game the Dual sense helps and I may prefer it. The speaker during Transistor is one of the best ways to experience the game imo. If a game came out on both platforms and the controller features were used as good as they were in Astro Playroom then I'd choose that game for PS5 over Series. The dualsense is incredible for features.

I really like PS5 Dual Sense - but at the same time, I'm also very afraid of breaking it - especially that haptic motor & triggers.

As per that XSX controller - I feel more at ease of abusing it like "oh F*** I don't care" kinda feel, like throwing the pad away.

If the PS5 controller is a veyron then the elite controller is a ..... whatever car is better at being a car than a veyron.

Xbox One Controller is the best aesthetically. Series went too far into the Ouya/Stadia/Toy look.

The Best Controller would take the base clean look of the Xbox One Controller, Add paddles from Elite, swap in Adaptive Triggers, No Rumble triggers. No touchpad, and Removable battery. Also easily replaceable analog modules so you can maintain a small deadzone for inevitable analog drift.

The only time I liked the Analog placement on a PS controller was when they added it to the PS1 controller. After that it was fucking lazy not to try to optimize. Apart from the shitty stick placement that was decide by the non analog PS1 controller design, I hate the fucking battery life. Other than that it works and I do kind of like the big fat touchpad that gets used as a button. I prefer the series controller and would not hook the PS5 controller up to my PC unless I ran out of AA batteries.

iFixit YT channel reports that PS5 controller is estimated to suffer from analogue stick drift in just over 400 hours. My PS2 controller has over 10 years and it still works without issues, so Dualsense durability is worrying me.

I’ve owned and played practically every controller across many consoles over the years. Of the current batch / gen - my elite still holds its own against the standard versions … may get the elite2 eventually.

The triggers In the dualsense are tough to get used to. Like in R&C they stop half way to fire one shot and you have to pull through all the way for both shots. I'm a neanderthal who just always wants to fire both shots and this controller is holding me down. But I get it because it's a cool feature that it can even do it.

I like my bright red series controller best. It lasts longer on a charge and feels good. That said, the dualsense is the most comfortable playstation controller I've ever used. I wish they would have kept the colors on the button symbols.

I really like the new size of the Dualsense, but I want the stick layout of the xbox controller, and longer sticks. Both are great this time around, but as other have said, the Elite V2 wins if you have the money.

I only got to use DS for a few days when I borrowed PS5, but I have gotten so used to my Elite and regular XSX controllers that there is no competition really. Everything, especially stick placement is better on Xbox controller. For me, personally.

Lets not skip over that fact the some people are bringing in a $200 controller to one up (prefer) how good the DualSense is.

Makes me wonder how well a Pro Dual sense would sell at $200 with back paddles and trigger stops.

I couldn't give them my money fast enough for a couple of them honestly.

The Dualsense is the best controller I've ever used, and if it had removable AA batteries it would have been the ultimate controller of all time. It feels solid, it looks amazing (midnight black here), it has the best features in a modern controller, wonderful support on PC thanks to 3rd party tools, and when you can use it natively like with Metro Exodus it just takes on a whole other level. I absolutely love it.

The only complaint is the battery life and the fact that it isn't hot swappable so eventually the battery will really suck and the controller will have to be permanently wired from then on. I've considered just getting a long USB C cable and going hardwired to my PC at all times anyway but wireless is just so much more comfortable and freeing, and probably will result in better longevity of the device overall as having a USB cable plugged in all the time is bad for the port. Tons of wear and tear under regular usage while plugged in.

Having no preference for stick placement due to being able to use either without issue is most liberating. Dualsense would get the nod between the two just on the basis that it's a genuine step up over last gen controllers

That said the Razer Onza I use with the PC has been a good buy recently with those resistance adjustable sticks & mechanical buttons
