Xbox One listed as compatible operating system for G2 VR headset but HP as "no plan"

HP stated that its upcoming Reverb G2 headset currently doesn’t support Xbox One consoles after a Microsoft Store listing suggested otherwise.

Reaching out to HP, the company told that there is “no current support” for Xbox One with the Reverb G2. The listing may be an error, though it’s still up and visible as of the time of this writing.

Xbox VR support has been rumored for a long time in one form or another. The Reverb G2 is made in partnership with Microsoft (along with Valve), so a partnership to bring the kit to console would make sense. Another reason the listing is likely a mistake is that only the Xbox One is mentioned in the app listing, and not the newer Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S or Series X consoles. However, if the original Xbox One model can support VR content, then the newer One models and the next generation Series models should hypothetically be able to as well.

It looks to use Display port, which could be an issue

I'd fucking love a stealth drop if VR for Series X. "Oh!!! BTW, the Series X is compatible with any 3rd party VR headset."

At this point, doubtful...no idea why.
Go 3rd party route. Minimize investment.
Sony seems to have a nice little kit going and PC/XBox ecosystem could still play...and VR titles in GamePass would f*cking take off!!!

Compatibility with any headset is impossible, each would need custom targets for res/framerate and there's no way to mandate that to devs

Except that there is no interest for a 3rd party to make a VR headset compatible with Xbox. Absolutely ZERO profit in it. Hardware makes no profit and games would be sold by Xbox store. The only profit the manufacturer would see would be from their 1st party games sold on Xbox store. No manufacturer is going to share their cut on 3rd party games with MS.
