Xbox Family App has launched on Google Play store and Apple App store

Now isn't that just the most inclusive video PR could come up with. I think they may have an industry award on their hands with the world's most watered down and accessible yet all inclusive safety video in gaming history. Now where is the red alert for kids looking up porn...also shout out to the low key Asian eyes giving plausible deniability. Skinny fat kid deserves more screen time while we're at it.

On a more serious note wifey and I will be installing this one for our kids. I wonder how this integrates across PC/console?

No kids but can definitely see how it could be useful for some families.

That's pretty damned cool. I assume you can set it up to ban certain ESRB ratings. I've been in too many Gamestops where oblivious parents buy their 8 year old child the latest copy of GTA or Call of Duty.

I always have the desire to ask them, "So, how many rated R movies do you allow your child to watch," but then again it ain't my kid.

The YouTube comments are classic too -

Great app, not letting my parents find it

Rip people with strict moms

Ok let’s all agree not to tell anyone’s parents ok

Imagine having this while you’re playing ranked

I’m gonna use this on my Dad

I just hope Youtube algorithm doesn’t put this in my mum’s recommended

I'm an adult but I need someone to use this app on me lol

YES I CAN FINALLY TAKE REVENGE FROM MY BROTHER

I'm now nearly 17 but I messed up when I created my account and now i still cant access things cause of child settings

Really appreciate the diversity of families! But man the models are scary

i just want a gamepass family plan

Wait if you set your xbox to the home console then you family (and child) accounts can access your GP titles just fine. My son installs on his xbox ok but I do think he signs in as me when doing that, although the install is then available to others logged in from the same family plan.

I do agree it could do with an update and in the xbox app(s) to manage things far easier.

They need to consolidate, because 4 different xbox apps is ridiculous. Right now none of the do everything.

In that particular case I'm not sure it's necessary. Mum and Dad only need a basic interface to check on the kids play time, most of them won't want or need a full Xbox app interface with games, achievements, gamepass releases etc.
Interesting that they used the new avatars for the ad, I was wondering if they still had any plan for them since they didn't really put them to use until now (being Unity based, I expected MS to make them easy to integrate in indie games like the original ones, but there's no sign of that)

I use the parental settings for my daughter and get a report emailed every week about which games she's played and websites she's visited across pc and console. If your kids have android phones then the Microsoft launcher can do it there as well.

Imma get this for myself. I can't let a shiny new system keep me away from my less important responsibilities

Your son doesn’t have to sign in as you either if that console is set as your home console. He can access all your owned games and all the games in gamepass. It’s a great feature and has saved me a fortune from buying multiple copies of games.

I know so many parent that have 8 year olds, that play gta or call of duty, and I can safely say they are smarter and moremature than many ppl here.

Well, the ones I know atleast. The games dont make children stupid. Its the parents.

Yes I use that for my son and daughter already, it's great having an automated email report weekly.

He has a separate console to mine. Yes we've enjoyed the savings on multiple games, even playing various titles together is brilliant. Just how it should be. I believe that is restricted to 2 licenses simultaneously? It will be interesting to see how that goes as we add a third or fourth console when next gen drops e.g. my daughter gets her own.

Very cool, when I eventually pick up a Series S as my daughters first console this will come in handy.
Actually, this works for years, but browser based.

The app makes it much easier. I use it since it was available as beta. Works quite well.
Btw, it is also for the PC not just for the console.

Well, yes, when I was a kid I also played games that were not for my age. But todays games are much different. There are games that can really traumatize kids because they are much to realistic or contain to much gore. Just think back what was on the market when you all were kids.
In my case, the worst thing were some really pixelated games on a 286 computer. Games have really changed over time.

I was not aware, my daughter is only 4 at the moment so I will only get her a Series S in a few years time, Gamepass and all the indies would basically be a great way to keep her entertained without needing to buy a ton of games. I'm certainly not goin to let her play Red Dead Redemption 2 or anything of that nature until she is a teenager.

Feel bad for the kids. Sneaking around at night to play a brand new game for a little longer was great.

God. One of my brother and I's fave memories is clocking Mortal Kombat Shoulin Monks in one sitting and him sneaking to bed about 30 mins before he had to get up for school

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Xbox players have to secure their kids. Pretty wack, considering Sony thinks about the children(they use the excuse to percent cross play because they were thinking about the children)

sure but the other 3? yea..I hope they will eventually upgrade the beta xbox app to be fully featured.

Well, when your child is 8 year old, feel free to expose them to extreme violence, nudity and just in general more adult themed things.

Who knows, your kid may end up a bloody genius going by your anecdotal experience of other people with kids.

Its as anecdotal as any "mature games may turn your kid into a criminal". I may have taken a jab against neogaf, but these days I think many would agree with me.

Also, I was only stating from my experience, it wasnt meant as any kind of proof for anything, and it wasnt meant to make fun or belittle other parents' decisions.

Pal.
