I don't game for the fun of it anymore, I game because i can't face real life for every waking hour just now... That wouldn't change if it went digital, it'd only change if i was satisfied with what I'm doing outside of gaming.

Also I'm almost entirely digital already so phfef

Yes. I have no interest in renting games, I want to own them. Digital is nothing but rental and it offers more downsides than upsides.

I can't sell a digital copy. I can't trade a digital copy. The vast majority of digital copies requires server authentication at intermittent periods to play. Sales are never any better or worse than sales for physical. If you somehow lose your account, you lose your game. If the service goes down, you lose your game. Fuck that.

Meanwhile I can continue to play the vast majority of my physical games in 20-40 years in the future. Most modern games are still complete on disc, outside of a tiny portion of AAA titles. Disc rot and Cartridge corrosion, while possible, can be completely ignored for your lifetime if you take basic care of your possessions and are essentially non-issues.

I have already lost hundreds thanks to servers being shut down or services being closed. I have no interest in sinking money into things I can't own again.

Just a note, but you aren't restricted to the Xbox store to buy digital games for Xbox. Or Nintendo's store for digital games for Switch. Both have digital codes available on Amazon and other retail outlets. You're only restricted by Sony when it comes to buying digital console games.
Yes, you're right. I'll edit my post to correct it.

Definitely wouldn't give it up, but i'd definitely be buying far fewer full price games.
Likely most I would be interested in would wait until massive sales.

Digital is mighty convenient, but I prefer being able to sell/swap/trade my games, especially those that are less than 8-10 hours and I'm not interested in a replay.

No but I might if it went to a all disc future. Loving the convenience of buying and playing my games digitally!!

All digital? No. I'm already all digital with PS4. Now if it went all streaming, I think I'd be done, because that would suck.

The poll is a little too cut and dry. Would I stop gaming altogether? Probably not. Would it change the way I consume games? Absolutely. I would never spend more than $10 to "buy" a digital game, so I would never buy games at launch. A service like Gamepass would become much more attractive to me in such a scenario, but since Sony doesn't put its games on PS Now at launch, it would limit me to MS.

Probably not, but i would wait for sales much more often. No way I am paying full price for something i don’t physically own.
If the future is all cloud and streaming only however i will quit and just play “retro“ games.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Far Cry 6.

Disc - £45
Digital - £60

Why would I buy digital?

It’s been so much effort because I’ve had to get up and walk across a room to put the game in and changed my mind? What the fuck was that all about? My god I’m such an idle bastard and don’t ever move and I even live in my own piss and shit because it’s too much of an effort to move my fat ass.

I’m paying more as I get 2 licenses? I don’t game share so I’ll have the single player digital version please.

I’ll wait for a sale to get it cheaper? Yes I don’t want to play a game on release day again.

No, but I would focus much more on retro. There are hundreds of games out there that I can buy and enjoy even if they're decades old. I like owning games physically, that's just a fact I can't change. I realize we're moving towards digital only, I just hope it'll take a little while longer.

I own 12 physical games for Wii U and 14 physical games on PS4, this is (way) more games then I've bought digital on PC in 5-10 years.

Physical or garbage bin price digital.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
I have already outgrown those plastic cases and discs thanks to PC gaming. I am not a manchild, its embarrassing to have a wall full of physical game cases as an adult. Not to mention these physical games and the old consoles will eventually suffer wear and tear over time which render them unuseable. Have fully moved away since a decade or longer

On the other hand, i have terabytes of game roms on my PC. and just spend 5 mins tinkering around with 3DS roms on the newly released Retroarch app on Steam a while ago.

I would give up console gaming, as they are based on generations who shut down all the time. I trust my digital games a lot more on PC.

How does having physicals make one a manchild lol?

Wouldn’t give it up, but damn I would miss having physical copies of games. There’s just something special having your favorite games in physical form!

The social norm suggest a person who has a wall shelf of old physical games, are one who doesnt move on from old possessions and still living in his childhood, because he’s still making physical rooms for them (when digital alternatives are available which allow these contents to be stored on storage media) rather than things for other life priorities.

Yeah I still don't think that's a good argument.

I will say I've never kept or collected games once I've moved on to a new generation. Backwards compatibility has always been a thing for the most part(at least on Xbox consoles) and I guess money has never allowed it for me.

Kind of like hoarding too.

No. I already buy more games digitally than physically these days. I like to have physical games as well, don't get me wrong, but there's too many good digital game sales to pass up, and if physical games went away, it wouldn't suddenly change my interest in gaming.

You can buy much cheaper physical games than digital, look at returnal, 70 pound digital, I can buy it physical 40 pounds, so I would hate just digital, you can always buy games cheaper physical, even including discount online store games are more expensive.

Reading here, some people like to throw money down the drain, and MUST buy digital, whatever the price.

No. And if I knew anyone that did I would question if they actually enjoyed gaming at all or were just hoarders who specialised in collecting game cases.

I'll give up gaming when the games don't interest me anymore......tbh that could be sooner rather than later given the continuing rise of GAAS.

I voted yes, but ment to vote no.

I've only bought digital games for the past 8 years, so no need for physical/polluting games

I mainly play PC so it's hard not to be all digital. Only changes I've made to my spending habit is that I no longer buy games on day of release as I know they will get heavily discounted within the next month or so. If I was still on console, I'd buy physical, play it and then trade it in.

No.

Sucks when you can't borrow games to/from friends anymore, but that's not gonna make me give up my hobby....

No, I'm here already (by choice).

I understand that some people like collecting boxes and for preservation reasons physical is a good thing. But ultimately I'm here for the games in the here and now and love convenience. Unfortunately for those that love physical, I think it is inevitable that it will eventually go all digital, although maybe not for a while.

PC I trust since the first days of STEAM and will always be there.

Playstation I dont trust with my game libraries even though I own over 300 digital titles on my account, if it wasn't for the backlash they might of ditched PS4 B/C all together

Xbox I trust a little more again since they are incorporating a ton of BC features for your library so I feel I might get more life out of my digital collection since their ties with PC and Windows.

In the end none of us know, my digital collection is useless on PS Vita now.

I believe the other member who wrote a big essay insulting people with other opinions isn't that far way too. I feel like the guy can only post insults and provoking posts.

I'd stop buying Nintendo consoles and games because the games never go on sale digitally below $45 but otherwise it wouldn't stop me.

No.

As time passes more and more people will realize that future is digital.

Even decades old games which weren't digital at first, are best played on emulators, and with shaders like CRT Royale, than on original hardware.

Im a PC gamer, been digital only for at least 10 years now.

But fuck going digital on console..... you are stuck with the insane game prices Sony/MS/Nintendo will charge you, $70/80 per game?!? Are you nuts?!

There are so many CD Key sites for PC games you can shop around and normally find a good price, or if its a Steam game (It usually is) you can trade in game items for games, my trade game choice is TF2, you can get TF2 items pretty cheap and trade for games, got so many games doing this at really good prices.

Unfortunately you wouldn't get the above on consoles.

So a big NO to digital only consoles.

Being able to download games is one of the most underappreciated thing that's ever happened. Back in the day every once in awhile you couldn't find a copy of a game.

Now you don't even have to get up to buy a game. No noisy disc drive. And the best part is you don't have to get up to change the game.
