If Jupitur had released at it original date, would it have been the biggest bomb of 2014?

Is there a chance anything can beat Mordceai for the 2015 Bomb title?

Jupiter cost about 100million more, also meaning it has a far largely marketing budget too.

Mordceai write off is going to be much smaller than Jupiter.

I want to see the movie just to see if what they say about his performance is true.

It's not. It's not unforgettably bad or some sort of legendary level of awful, but Redmayne's problems definitely lie with the decisions of the directors, like his random screaming.

Actually without the outburst it would be a reserved, straightforward performance. I thought he and Titus were great, actually.

I had it described to me as "he sounds like Richard Harris as Dumbledore, until he sounds like Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman. And there's no inbetween."

All Kingsman has to do is get 100 million+ to be a success and get a possible sequel. Make it happen America. Now that you've taken your girlfriends to watch 50 Shades, make them go with you to watch an amazing action movie. The good part is that nothing half decent comes out for a while so it should be easy to watch this.

Shit my wife took me to Kingsman. I got a cool ass chick. We watch porn together so why even bother with 50.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
This wasn't correct the last time you posted it. Box Office hasn't been built around "star-power" for a really long time now. It wouldn't have succeeded because of Tatum/Kunis, either. This movie was always going to live or die on whether audiences could be convinced the world presented was alluring/interesting. It wasn't. The marketing was shitpoor, and everything about it looked generic as hell. There hasn't been a single moment in which this film seemed like anything but forgettable sci-fi blech. You coulda stuck Clooney and Bullock in there and people still woulda shrugged at it.

Actually, I would see a Wachoski film with Clooney and Bullock in it.

Meanwhile, unless Tatum is stripping or with Jonah Hill, I can't care about the film he's in.

...
But even with him stripping, I'm there for Matt Bomer and not him.

Looks like the delay and reshoots for Kingsman was a good call. Action flicks tend to have OK legs in February, so $100M domestic is a good possibility.

Two sensibly budgeted R rated films, and one of them is actually good? What year is this? Congrats to both, I'm seriously impressed with how Vaughn has evolved as a director.

I would have been more interested in the studio going for an NC-17 cut in addition--instead of is a step too far, i think--to the R version (could have opened a week early with it, and fucked the theatre chains), but few studios have any risk left in them.

2015 where fanfictions top the BO.

I always read it as the author being in an abusive relationship and using fantasy Twilight characters to get over it, and then she realized sexy rich abuser + self-insert of herself is a winning combo. The sex is so terribly written but the portrait of abuse leaps off the page. The fanfiction part seemed incidental, more like she was using it because she didn't know how to write.

I mentioned this in the other thread but I'm pretty sure that Kingsmen didn't cost 80+ million dollars to make, only BOM or people using BOM as a source has mentioned it being that expensive. Unless there was some significant added expenses during the delay it should most likely be a sub 50 (if not sub 40) million dollar film; i.e. a budget more akin to that of Kick-Ass.

Holy shit Fifty Shades of Grey is a monster. Kingman did very well.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Production Budget: $40 million

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $81,670,000 34.1%
+ Foreign: $158,000,000 65.9%
= Worldwide: $239,670,000

Kingsman

Production Budget: $81 million

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $35,600,000 63.2%
+ Foreign: $20,687,504 36.8%
= Worldwide: $56,287,504

Wow at 50 Shades

50 shades is gonna be massively front loaded imo. I think its gonna see a huge drop next week.
True, but even then it made a good amount of money.

Considering that the abusive elements are nearly exactly the same as they were in Twilight with Edward, I'm not sure why you consider the fanfic part to be incidental.

Did extremely well considering the weird reception.

The Hobbit trilogy nearly made $3billion.

It managed to coast on LOTR goodwill as opposed to completely shitting the bed, but considering how different the market is now than it was a decade ago, The Hobbit trilogy still came in under expectations. It's still a successful global franchise, but LOTR was a once or twice in a generation phenomenon.

On the art house front, the Anna Kendrick musical comedy, “The Last Five Years,” pulled in $45,107 across three screens, for a per-screen average of $15,036. The Radius-TWC release also debuted on video-on-demand.

This is pretty good, right? As a huge fan of this musical, I watched the on-demand of it today, since no theaters near me were playing it lol I enjoyed the take on it and the majority of the changes they made. I am surprised that it was only shown on three theaters. Then again, its a hard sell for Valentine's Day for obvious reasons XD

I'm not seeing much on the box office horizon until Cinderella in mid March.

I'm curious to see how Focus does in a couple of weeks.

No, Hollywood will let them return to The Matrix and see if they can work that magic again. If that fails, then they are done.

I think studios keep thinking that the Wachowskis have some magic left in them to make another box office hit like the Matrix. They probably should return to the Matrix, not that it would be good but it would make money. I think there are enough people out there who still care about series despite the 2nd and 3rd film being trash. Doubt they will. Instead some other studio will give them a budget to make another bombtastic sci fi film.

Saw Jupiter Ascending and Kingsman with my wife, I get in free cause my daughter works at the theater so nothing lost..

She wanted to see Jupiter irregardless of the reviews, and it was okay visually and yep the story was kind of a mess..about 30 minutes in started checking the time about every 10 minutes or so. On the other hand Kingsman was really good..

On Sat, the theater had the biggest one day attendance in years over 7,500 people. Guess having Valentine's Day on a Sat helped alot. My daughter said Friday night, 50 shades was a carbon copy of the Magic Mike opening weekend, a bunch of drunk women causing a bunch of racket.

This, I really wish more people understood this. Star-power means fuck all, I get overly annoyed in comic movie threads when people suggest some lowkey actors/actresses and people rebuttal with "They don't have star-power/they're not big name". It really doesn't mean shit.

I'm interested in how the 50 sequels do now. The first one gets the curiosity factor going for it, but now everyone knows it's shit. The lead actor's have zero chemistry, and the sex was lame. I wonder if that means the sequals might bomb, but I doubt it, I have no faith in people not to see shit even when they know it's shit.

Already expecting the Cam'ron bottle gif

I suspect Kevin Feige would pursue legal action against Sony if they even breathed a word of seriously wanting to adapt trouble. Not sure what grounds he'd have, but I think I'd chip into the defense fund.

I want a buddy comedy starring Redmayne's character from Jupiter Ascending and Samuel L. Jackson's character from Kingsman.

It'd be stupendous on every level.

Saw the 11:30pm showing of Kingsman with some friends last night. Theater was packed. Saw it again this morning with my dad. They moved it across the hall to the larger screen that 50 Shades was in. It was still packed, and there was a line for the next showing.

Kingsman looks like it'll do alright and has a chance to make more money which is good because it's about time good movies started coming out. Fifty is gonna drop hard from what I hear.

Millar would join Feige in not allowing an adaption to exist. I'm pretty sure he wants everyone to forget he wrote this.

He's fine, I liked his voice inflections and whatnot. His performance just needed to be developed further...just like the whole friggin' movie needed to be developed further.

A 70% drop for Fifty Shades next week wouldn't surprise me, but I'll hedge a little and say 65%.

Actually no, fuck it, 70%. It's not Valentine's Day and no one liked it.

Jupiter Ascending would have been far better served in a medium of longer lasting capacity.
A TV miniseries, multiple films to keep it more focused, something.
Hell, It would have made a better video game than single 2-hour movie.
They tried to pack far too much in a single feature film.
I still liked it, but its flaws are glaring, and it just left me wanting to know more about the universe it creates.
