Companies use services that scrape big communities and blogs to see what folks are saying about them. They'll also do sentiment analysis to see if the words/phrases being used are positive or negative.

I mean, I'm sure some people actually read the site and hired marketers may have some accounts, but they do that kind of thing in a really scalable way typically. Hard to comb all of reddit and millions of blogs otherwise.

Also, this is super shitty of wiki leaks.

Oh my god.

GAF allowed Amazing Spiderman 2 to happen.

It's all your fault, GAF.

EDIT: Don't worry, I understand how scummy this situation is. This isn't being a watchdog, it's being ridiculous.

No... don't you understand? GAF has Hollywood by the balls. We control this movie industry.

Funny all the people who made it sound like wikileaks was some shining beacon who wouldn't do something like this. This is just scummy and unnecessary. There's seriously no purpose to this.

Pretty crappy considering that almost everyone that I know in the VFX industry have worked for or worked with Sony at some point.

I think people are missing is that there are people that have to careers and their personal info breached.

Wikileaks does justify their action on their page by arguing that that this leak shows a connection between Sony and Republican party and the military-industrial complex.

WikiLeaks said:
Today, 16 April 2015, WikiLeaks publishes an analysis and search system for The Sony Archives: 30,287 documents from Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) and 173,132 emails, to and from more than 2,200 SPE email addresses. SPE is a US subsidiary of the Japanese multinational technology and media corporation Sony, handling their film and TV production and distribution operations. It is a multi-billion dollar US business running many popular networks, TV shows and film franchises such as Spider-Man, Men in Black and Resident Evil.

In November 2014 the White House alleged that North Korea's intelligence services had obtained and distributed a version of the archive in revenge for SPE's pending release of The Interview, a film depicting a future overthrow of the North Korean government and the assassination of its leader, Kim Jong-un. Whilst some stories came out at the time, the original archives, which were not searchable, were removed before the public and journalists were able to do more than scratch the surface.

Now published in a fully searchable format The Sony Archives offer a rare insight into the inner workings of a large, secretive multinational corporation. The work publicly known from Sony is to produce entertainment; however, The Sony Archives show that behind the scenes this is an influential corporation, with ties to the White House (there are almost 100 US government email addresses in the archive), with an ability to impact laws and policies, and with connections to the US military-industrial complex.

WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange said: "This archive shows the inner workings of an influential multinational corporation. It is newsworthy and at the centre of a geo-political conflict. It belongs in the public domain. WikiLeaks will ensure it stays there."

Sony is a member of the MPAA and a strong lobbyist on issues around internet policy, piracy, trade agreements and copyright issues. The emails show the back and forth on lobbying and political efforts, not only with the MPAA but with politicians directly. In November 2013 WikiLeaks published a secret draft of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) IP Chapter. The Sony Archives show SPE's internal reactions, including discussing the impact with Michael Froman, the US Trade Representative. It also references the case against Megaupload and the extradition of its founder Kim DotCom from New Zealand as part of SPE's war on piracy.

The connections and alignments between Sony Pictures Entertainment and the US Democratic Party are detailed through the archives, including SPE's CEO Lynton attending dinner with President Obama at Martha's Vineyard and Sony employees being part of fundraising dinners for the Democratic Party. There are emails setting up a collective within the corporation to get around the 5,000 USD limit on corporate campaign donations to give 50,000 USD to get the Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo elected as "Thanks to Governor Cuomo, we have a great production incentive environment in NY and a strong piracy advocate that’s actually done more than talk about our problems."

Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton is on the board of trustees of RAND Corporation, an organisation specialising in research and development for the United States military and intelligence sector. The Sony Archives show the flow of contacts and information between these two major US industries, whether it is RAND wanting to invite George Clooney and Kevin Spacey to events, or Lynton offering contact to Valerie Jarrett (a close advisor to Obama) or RAND desiring a partnership with IMAX for digital archiving. With this close tie to the military-industrial complex it is no surprise that Sony reached out to RAND for advice regarding its North Korea film The Interview. RAND provided an analyst specialised in North Korea and suggested Sony reach out to the State Department and the NSA regarding North Korea's complaints about the upcoming film. The Sony documents also show Sony being in possession of a brochure for an NSA-evaluated online cloud security set-up called INTEGRITY.

The archives also detail SPE's development of its own films and collecting "intelligence" on rival pictures, for example documents in the archive reveal the budget breakdown for Oliver Stone's rival picture Snowden, which is currently in production. The budget reveals the rights spend: 700,000 USD to the Guardian's Luke Harding, 600,000 USD to Oliver Stone for his work on the script and 1,000,000 USD to Snowden's Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena.

WikiLeaks has a committment to preserving the historical archive. This means ensuring archives that have made it to the public domain remain there regardless of legal or poltical pressure, and in a way that is accessible and useable to the public. WikiLeaks' publication of The Sony Archives will ensure this database remains accessible to the public for years to come.

Not sure if I buy it as a justification, but that's what they say...

In which case maybe they should have leaked those specific documents instead of plastering employee's information on the internet.

They just sound like conspiracy theorists at this point.

Well, this is exactly why they released the entire thing, so you could go and look for that information freely by yourself.

You can search for the keyword Goliath for example and read about MPAA talking to politicians, lobbyists and setting up their strategies to take down copyright material/google and most surprisingly, about how to defend SOPA against it's attackers.

There's a leaked script of the Uncharted movie on there but I'm not sure how current it is. I'm not even sure if I want to read it yet.

As amusing as seeing they read our posts can be, it's a pretty shitty thing to do, they've devolved from whistleblowing to just leaking corporate documents for the sake of it.

There are a lot of emails in here from Ike Perlmutter which is interesting because he's such a secretive guy who never talks.

Reading these emails though he seems like...a nice guy?

Hey,
I am heading to Tokyo, I will be back Saturday. I am going to try and bring back a little plumber. I guess we can all use our pipes cleaned. Just to make sure, are you interested in Pokemon which is the other property I am working on with Nintendo? Looking forward to our big, big, big project. xo

Looks like Avi Arad is/was also pursuing the rights to Pokemon.

All the Spider-Man/Marvel stuff probably got published already since they were the hottest topic of the leak.

There's some other Marvel stuff in there. There's an email with Pascal, Perlmutter, and Jeph Loeb going back and forth about some kind of disruption.

There's also an email where Perlmutter is trying to convince Michael Lynton that female superhero movies don't perform well.

Dear Amy and Doug

We screened the final version of ASM2 and can only thank you for fulfilling your promises to deliver us the most marketable and sellable movie in the history of the franchise. All of our team, agencies included, were blown away by the quality in an emotional sense and in a cinematic sense where spectacle is key. Even for those of us who had been privileged to be part of the long production process this version delivers everything we saw in the early days and more. For those starting afresh it took them by surprise, confirmed their faith and gave them something unexpected and new.

We love to feel proud of our movies, (even moreso when they have such monetary success in prospect) and ASM2 fullfilss everything we could have hoped for. As always I promise we will continue to do everything to make this the success it deserves to be.

Many thanks from us all.

Peter

PS Please allow me one geeky moment – I do love comic books and music for film alike so for me, personally, I LOVED that Hans Zimmer score.

Somebody actually wrote this.

Hey Clint,
I wanted to give you an update on the Ratchet & Clank film. Andy House will be presenting the first trailer of the film on stage at PlayStation's E3 Press Event, which will be streamed to over 100M people online and at over 40 theaters nationwide as part of a bigger mainstream push. Andy is also announcing the Ratchet & Clank PlayStation 4 game at this time.
As we are editing Andy's speech, I thought about how great it would be to add the lines "and this film will be distributed in North America by Screen Gems".
Please let me know if there is anything else you need while you review this opportunity
Spare a thought for poor Mr House this E3, keeping in mind the bullshit his colleagues are making him say.

Feige gave them some notes on ASM2 it seems.

Looks like Arad has been back and forth with Nintendo for at least 5 years. Wants separate rights for Mario, Dk, Zelda etc

District 9 game? And Andrew House can't spell Xbox.

RE: District 9 10 11
Amy,

Happy to talk about this. One key point for consideration is the choice of gane developer.
Assuming Peter would want the widest audience for the game component, he would want a multi-platform
developer like EA or Activision able to publish across PS, PC and X-box as well as mobile. Our
teams would be ruled out as they work only on PS with a little mobile recently.

In any case let's set a time to talk so I can understand the concept better and provide a proper
perspective.

Next week is tough due to the (20+) budget meetings but the week following would be great.

Have a great weekend,

Andy

Hope this email finds you well. I know we have talked a bit in the past about expanding on he
district 9 franchise
Through out the Sony corporation and I have been pushing Neil Blomcamp and Peter Jackson and they
just hadn't been ready. The guys at spt wanted to turn it into a show for the Playstation network
and that didn't make sense to them at the time and I have been pressing Neil to do the sequel to d9
for a couple of years
In the last few days we have had a bit of a breakthrough because Neil has finally seen his way to
developing a movie and a game at the same time that would be inter related and happen at the same
time. Obviously he and peter would want creative control and I'm not sure how that would work with
ps but if one were to give it to anyone they would probably be the ones. I think a television
component would come after that as they are primarily interested in the movie and game first.

You were so helpful in getting the guys at ps to work with Neil on chappe.

I was wondering how you think I might go about approaching this. It could be huge for the company.

And although Neil hasn't given it to me yet he has written a treatment for the story for both the
movie and game

It would be great to talk to you about it when you have a minute

Steve,

I see your point about leakage and am happy to discuss earlier disclosure. I have to be very careful how we position the PSN relationship, especially Plus. The moment non-US PSN/Plus members hear this will not be coming to them, there is the risk of considerable backlash unless we (SCE &

SNE) have a mitigation plan in terms of other content, which is fully our intention.

We just need to take great care on positioning with that in mind.

Andy...wanted to get to you right away....we are f Ing pumped about powers!! From the assistants to the execs this is a dream come true to work with play station...so I want to nail it...Michael mentioned you might want to hold the announcement until e 3 ..I think that would be a mistake...on a practical level once we start bringing in writers and talking to agents it's out there....and we will be playing defense with the press and it will be a lost opportunity....on a strategic level...and I will quote what steve balmer told me in my office...if everyone figures out that you have what all of us want and are chasing...ip ..access to talent and writers..infrastructure...foreign distribution...and figure out a way to work together...it's game

over and we are all chasing you!!! .....we need to seize the moment now...control the message and
make a statement ..and frankly steal a page from the netflix play book ...and let everyone know we
will be a force.....TOGETHER!!! Trust me on this...it's the right thing...we will have more for
you to talk about later...but we need to take a big 1st step...Steve

sent on the run

Steve needs to chill.

Arad got to meet with Iwata.

The conversation that follows is, well, something:
Arad: Happy ceo, lets get together,it's the mother load.
Pascal: Do we get baby peach in there ?
Arad: Peach iis a babe!
Pascal: Let's get gende to do this its soooo perfect for him

Did we already know if Pascal was interested in bringing in Genndy Tartakovsky for the project?

It seems they met with some guy called Booby who works for Activision to discuss movie adaptations:
FW: Activision / Videogame Reports

In advance of Bobby meeting, attached are some fact sheets on his IP and the state of play currently on vid game adaptations. You guys have the biggest in Res Evil. In addition to his current big titles, the new one coming Destiny has strong buzz.

He has been reluctant to pursue movies, but I gather, as sales slow, is now more open, but his plan is to do it all IN HOUSE to CONTROL everything. I got approached about maybe doing that for him, but I work for you—im happy to say. So then I thought maybe we could do a deal with him, like I did on the Simpsons Movie, where we co funded development, but let him have the right to NOT greenlight a film. We do a Marvel/Paramount type distribution deal with him if he funds negs, or we co fund.

The basic idea of the meeting is to try to COAX him towards us, by letting him retain control, but having the full studio support etc etc.

Its our pitch tho, as he didn’t seek it out, and has been wary of studio deals and hates the world of warcraft deal.

Make sense?
I feel kind of bad their COAX strategy is now out in the open.

That e-mail was in March 2014 and in August 2014 there were rumors of Activision forming a movie studio which goes with the IN HOUSE to CONTROL everything line.

Guys, they read our posts.
But only if they're about Spider-man or Captain America movies it wsould seem :(

My reading of those was the much more sober they get google to read the entire internet of spider man posts and then a human picks out good ones. Sorry to ruin anyones fist bumping about feeling important that Sony reads GAF
