-Best known for her roles in movies Bridesmaids and the Pitch Perfect musical comedies, 40-year-old Wilson named 2020 her “Year of Health” and has been documenting her fitness regime on Instagram. Her intense workouts and Mayr diet plan – focused on mindful eating, gut health and chewing each mouthful 40 times (a workout in itself) – has led to her losing a lot of weight, and in a recent Insta post, says she is only six pounds (3kg) away from her target of 165 pounds (75kg)."

-In interviews, Wilson spoke of her pride in her body, and how she was immediately signed by an agent because they had nobody else on their books like her. In 2016, she was the cover star of Cosmopolitan magazine, and said: “I wouldn’t ever want to compete with what I call 'the glamours’ – the really gorgeous people. I’m about the brain, the heart and what’s on the inside. I feel really lucky to be the body type I am.”

Rebel Wilson: "I literally feel as if I have to physically transform myself, because for some reason, even though we’re in a very imaginative industry, it’s very difficult for people to imagine me as a serious actress and I feel that I physically have to show you that I am different,” she has said."

"Her backtracking is surprising. Of course, she can do anything she likes with her own body, but her boldness as a beautiful bigger woman was totally refreshing. She made so many women feel good, and especially in the current lockdown, where many of us have put on a few – in my case, quite a few – pounds, we need all the boosts we can get. It feels uncomfortable to think that if an A-lister isn’t good enough at an ‘unacceptable’ weight, what does that say about the rest of us?"

"The irony is that one of the things that makes Wilson such an endearing and successful performer is that she is different. Not appearing to care for the usual Hollywood nonsense, she’s funny, rude and real, and has made a career out of the way she looks, in roles she often created for herself."

"Now Wilson has a slimmer frame, she’s lost the USP that made her so in demand and will now be competing with ‘the glamours’ for roles. The kinship that bigger women felt when she represented and championed them both on and off screen is broken, much as it was when Adele became the ‘skinny Minnie’ she had earlier vowed not to become."

My question is that if her personality is what made her "so endearing" and "funny, rude, and real" how dose that change with weight? Idk if you ask me we have plenty of "bold" heavy women in media and modeling I feel like this author is just upset her favorite actress got skinny when she didn't and projects her own insecurities. Just because she was happy with her body before dose not mean she could never change her mind and want something better for herself health wise. Im happy for Rebel personally, even though I never liked her in any movies.

It's amazing to me that it's these people on the left that will spout off COVID morbidity statistics on how it effects obese people far more and yet at the same time encourage women being fat... Nay, glorify them and prop them up on pedestals.

I was hoping that if those paralyzed with COVID fear would take anything away from this whole experience that it would be this. That if they didn't learn to not be afraid of the virus, that it would lead to them to want to stop being fat and unhealthy and glorifying fat people. So more people could live longer, happier and healthier lives.

And then they go and do the complete opposite and try to... fit shame? Good Lord. Something has got to give.

John Candy's weight was part of his character too. It didn't end well for him.
I'd actually argue it wasnt which is why he was so great. It was his talent and ability that made him popular. Meanwhile, actresses like McCarthy and Wilson have based their careers on being the clumsy, horny, fat woman.

Regardless, this shows incredible discipline and character by Wilson so I wish her all the best.

I think that says a lot more about his fans than the actor himself. Also, Hollywood has a problem with making fat actors always seem stupid, clumsy, or just incompetent which I think the author misses the main point of this article.

Hnrm... do you not think that being fat might make you clumsy? If a person is more than a few pounds overweight I find it highly likely that they are either incompetent, were poorly parented and are now living life on autopilot or have emotional issues.

How should Hollywood portray them? As athletes and intellectual sex machines?

Why Rebel Wilson’s weight loss is sad for so many women like me

Popular fatty admirably loses substantial amount of weight for her own health, which makes celeb obsessed media whore fatty feel bad about herself, thus leading to a think piece about why this is wrong.

Nice straw man. How about show them as decent human beings instead of something to laugh at simply because of their weight. I don't blame Rebel at all here.

It's better to portray them as people with lots of problems so that fat people who feel like there is nothing wrong with them might be motivated to improve their life.

If you are fat you should not be okay with that and I don't want anyone enabling your lifestyle. At best they should be portrayed as victims of circumstance.

If you are fat you cost everyone around you in increased Healthcare costs, in psychological and emotional costs from feeling bad for you, and any future wife or girlfriend you might have by being a bad version of your best self. We all pay the price for people that are fat. It should strongly be discouraged.

We shouldn't shame people for being fat, (in fact that could make them feel worse and cause them to over eat more) but we encourage them to live better lives. Promote health and well being but our society is going in the exact opposite route

Lots of selfish, superficial whining, and mind reading going on here. What counts the most is what's on the inside - the content of character. If she had a good personality before, she probably has a good one now, or you have to prove to me that Rebel all of a sudden turned into an asshole.

I dunno, I sometimes feel like society is going in the exact opposite direction, as you say, because there's no shame anymore. There's definitely a line somewhere but a bit of shame can go a long way, I think.

You bring them to reality by shaming them. I seriously doubt you've known very many fat people. Are you fat?
Not at all. How many fat people you know changed their way for being shamed? Telling someone they will die because of their weight gain is being real and a good friend.

Is that not shaming them though? I mean, I don't think citing medical science is shaming someone, but there are definitely people out there (HAAS types come to mind) who will say you're shaming them.

You know where they fat shame? China and Japan.

Shaming them would be calling them a pathetic fat ass calling them names and worthless. Fat people eat because it gives them comfort and reduces their anxiety. By calling them hurtful names it will just revert them back to eating more to reduce that anxiety. You have to actually get to the cause of the problem, show them the destructive path they are on and just how much food they consume. Like I said there is a big difference between showing them the cold hard reality of the situation and just insulting them.

Fat people always whinge on and on about how proud they are to be fat until they lose weight. How big is beautiful and body positivity is important. I've gotten into so many arguments with fat friends over how the choice is very much up to them, and that I'd harp on them just as heavily if they were trying to convince me that smoking cigarettes (which two of them also do) was a healthy lifestyle choice.

Three of those friends have since lost weight with either vegan or keto diets and are now much happier because of it. They no longer agree with their former talking points, except for the libtard.

Good on Rebel Wilson and Adele.

You know where they fat shame? China and Japan.
China and Japan have completely different diets than us and you are only sighting a FEW examples from personal experience vs. most weight loss programs and clinics that specialize in treating obesity. Plus you are ignoring that there are still fat people in china and Japan as well. Im not saying that society shaming dose not play a factor for some people but simply saying full blow society shaming will cure the epidemic is short sighted. Most people who are fat don't like being fat already. A mass exodus from society could lead to higher suicide rates. There is a good balance to be achieved other than simply demonizing a group of people into submission. First and foremost we need to axe the 'body positivity movement" and promote people who did the work and actually achieved their goals.

I knew a guy who was fat as hell before at my last job. He didn't change because people made fun of him, but because he just hated being fat and the health issues that came with it. He dose not insult other fat people, but he is real with them and actually offers advice and help.

Misery loves company. Now that she's no longer a flatso, a good chunk of women/chunky women feel like they've lost a 'partner.'

I'm willing to bet my life that if some scientist somewhere creates an affordable pill that actually unfats you, that pill will be the highest selling health product in Mississippi, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Delaware, Ohio, Saudi Arabia, Libya, the Bahamas, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, the list goes on and on and on and on and on. If people thought Viagra's performance (pun unintended) was impressive, wait until they see the charts for a fat loss pill that actually works. On top of that, gyms would see the biggest loss of customers of any business since the horse taming and horse riding business took a dive in the late 1800's - early 1900's.

Fat shaming works. China and Japan have less fat people. I'm not talking about demonizing them, I'm saying fat shaming. You should be able to point out that they are fat and make fun of them. I used to be fat, I got that way slowly, and didn't even realize it until co-workers at a previous job started making jokes about me being fat to my face. I didn't get mad at them or start crying into a bowl of ice cream, i took a close look at myself and realized i had gained a lot of weight. I started doing things I thought would make me lose weight, and over time I learned what I had to do to maintain a healthy weight.

If people can't take jokes or criticism about their weight, then their weight isn't their only problem.

I was an overweight child until I was 16/17. Getting dangerously close to obese. Two extra large pizzas and two 2 liter cokes a day was normal for me. Fast food every day. Even ended up in the hospital a few times from my body producing pain and doctors telling me “Your body is rejecting your diet”. Diabetes runs in my family. Heart disease.I had debilitating asthma and stuck to albuterol which gave me gynecomastia. AKA Man Titties.

I started running after 16 after a girl led me on and broke my heart, but that wasn’t the moment I’d repeat in my head. The moment I repeated in my head was my father (Think Trump: Blunt, honest, no filter) seeing me shirtless and saying “damn man you’re fat”. I felt absolute shame.

I still run to this day. At least five miles, if not more. I do not advocate fat shaming anyone. I certainly wouldn’t. But there is a case there that it might trigger some to actually do something about it. I certainly know that going in the other direction and trying to placate or pussyfoot around peoples health does no good. Everyone’s different, everyone receives input differently. For me, that shame seriously steered my life differently.

Fucking crabs man. Give me a break, stop making other peoples lives about you, you fucking cunts.

Theyre all mad now bc she's going to outlive all the other wailing landwhales who can't put the spoon down and get on a treadmill.

I think we have different definitions of "fat shaming". Im glad you improved your life but the jokes just made you aware of your condition, you made that decision by yourself that you wanted to change for a healthy weight as you said before it didn't hurt your feelings. I would argue the same effect would have been achieved if they pointed out you were unhealthy and need to lose weight for your health simply from the fact that you were unaware of it.

That is not what I was arguing against but thanks for sharing. Pointing out that someone is fat is not "shaming" imo and as you say you don't advocate for it either. Bullying people and calling them lard ass is more of what Im talking about. Nothing wrong with pointing out the issues.

If it's not a joke why would they say anything? If they couldn't joke about it then it would be an environment where they couldn't talk to me about it at all. Should some random co-workers have a "heart to heart" talk with me like this is an after school special?

I'm sorry man, but you aren't living in reality. Making jokes about people's faults/issues is the nicest way you can approach them. If you can't joke with someone about their issues it's cause either the environment or the person are so sensitive that you really can't talk to them at all.
