I saw this on Facebook today and it made me crack up pretty hard. The first response is truly a masterpiece Bravo!

And here's another that made my ribs hurt. OMG I HAD NO IDEA LOVECRAFT WAS SO RACIST BECAUSE I WAS ONLY IN HIGH SCHOOL! THANK GOD A PROGRESSIVE AUTHOR WAS AROUND TO STEER US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!

Bonus points for mentioning NPR.

HP Lovecraft wasn't a racist.

He was a racist, but so what? A lot of intelligent people in those days thought, for what were seen then as scientific reasons, that races were different and that some were superior to others. The man also had a very aristocratic way of looking at the world -- he thought of himself as someone who should have been born into aristocracy, because of his personal feeling of superiority to others.

There are things that progressive, liberal people believe today that, a hundred years from now, will be seen as debunked, foolish or evil.

I'll take a racist genius who created some of mankind's greatest literature and set a million readers of a wonderful artistic and emotional journey over a thousand Resetera SJWs. For all of their talk about being "on the right side of history" (there's no such thing, by the way), HP Lovecraft will be remembered and read a 1000 years from now, while all of those SJWs will have disappeared into the very memory hole they hope their ancestors could be cast into for not adhering to 21st century political correctness.

Solid post. You take away Lovecraft's loathing of humanity (and not just black people and Eskimos, but also certain sects of Europeans/whites), and what you get is a complete hack that nobody would care about. He just wouldn't pack the same punch. His fear of everyone and everything was intrinsic to his development as a writer, period.

Anyway, they changed the World Fantasy Award over his racism; I think that's sufficient at this point. What more can really be said?

I just find those people in the Facebook discussion to be completely ridiculous, acting like they had no idea Lovecraft was a racist. Give me a fucking break.

Well I meant to edit that to avoid a response. But for me when I look at his art I have a hard time finding outright "hatred" as much as he just seems to play off his self-centered world-view.

He hated everything around him and wrote it as such; misanthropic most definitely but racist? The best evidence I can find of such is other people's opinion where they hyperfocus on the Cat and a poem that even the museum who displays can't even directly say it was him or a bunch of letters that I've read but can't find any direct connection to him personally but are definitely used to smear him.

Meanwhile, these same people refuse to talk about "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward," where he had nothing but nice things to describe about the family of African Americans. There's a clear shift in his later work where you can tell he became much less hateful of the outside world.

I'm also willing to say I could be completely wrong about everything I typed and that I haven't done as much research as others but from my personal view it seems more misanthropic than anything else.

I haven't watched it, but I saw on twitter that in the season finale (spoiler I guess?) it ends with SPOILER

I gave it a fair shot, the ideas behind the show has potential but it's about as subtle as a punch in the face with everything.

it sounds like black struggle porn. a character is running from evil white men and they see someone pass them "Is that Rosa Parks?" "Get off the bus!" she shouts. they do a Oujia board summons for Emmet Till. at one point someone meets the grandfather of Martin Luther King, who is a slave, talking about "one day i'll have a dream" or something. Forrest Gump.

the fact that people take this seriously kind of scares me when i hear about how hackneyed this shit is. baby food for SJWs.

apparently there is a scene where they make the deceased ghosts of murdered black people whole again by SAYING THEIR NAME and each time they say a name some magical stupid stuff happens as the white magician cowers in fear. like it sounds like the kind of dumb shit written by twitter addled social justice warriors who communicate primarily through Harry Potter memes.

and of course hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollet's sister is one of the lead roles. that family seems to make the entire living off the glamorization of black suffering.

but no i haven't seen it myself.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft was probably the most imaginative author of the 20th century. He may not have found much success in life, but the profound influence of his work to this day after his death speaks of how much his work stands the test of time. Many genre fiction authors owe a great debt to him. From his good friend Robert E. Howard (the creator of Conan), Clark Ashton Smith, Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore (who wrote some great Lovecraft inspired comics for Avatar Press).

I agree with what K Kreen101 said. The man's legacy will lost longer than any of the SJWs screeching. Hell, they can't even create stuff of their own so the best they can do is leech off the man's work. Case in point:

Fuck you for spoiling and not using spoiler tags. Get fucked.

Show is great. One of my favorites as of late.

Blessings to you.

This thread is not a discussion of the show per se but how woke people are treating its themes. I'm sure there's lots of threads for discussing how great it is with spoilers treated like nuclear secrets.

Spoiler probably, I haven't watched one minute: the black characters are noble victims and the white characters are evil monsters.

I’m really conflicted with the show. I like it but my god is it preachy. Gonna go watch ep 5 and give it another go.

Honestly, all I wanted to know is if the message was subtle or preachy, glad someone told me, so I'll just skip.

As for those facebook post, as a black man I find them incredibly embarrassing. Grow the fuck up, crying until I throw up, the fuck are you even crying about?

Not preachy at all. I think you'll really enjoy it.

I hate this show because the dialog is dogshit and everybody explains shit to each other that they already know or wouldn't be talking about just so the audience can hear it.

I said that on a friend's page and 30 people called me racist and said I don't know how black people talk. Whee.

OMG is this your red pill moment???? :)
Hating the idiots on the left is not gonna make me like the idiots on the right. I lean left but I've always been somewhere in the middle. When everything revolves around Trump I probably come off more one sided than I am, but I'm not some hyperwoke progressive.

I get recognizing Lovecraft as a racist while still appreciating his work.

Tbh this was the dumbest thing I thought was by these developers.

Following the initial backlash to Fate of Cthulu’s use of Lovecraft’s creations while decrying him as a racist, discussions surrounding the game began to taper off before being reignited at the beginning of February after Evil Hat Productions drew attention to how “there are no sanity rules in Fate of Cthulu,” with players who encounter Lovecraftian-horrors instead gaining new powers instead of losing their mind to madness, in a patronizing attempt to be respectful to players with “mental illness.”
Are they for real? They remove a vital part of what makes Lovecraft, well, Lovecraft.

In a case like this, they should've just created a new pantheon/idea.

Are you making that up or is this stuff legitimately in the show?

Just about everything you said is wrong.

If you watched it, you'd know it isn't sjw anything. You're going off biased takes against it because it isn't centered on Lovecraft but the CONCEPTS of his writing.

Yes, the book was written by a white man but it diverges a lot from the book.

Doesn't one of the female characters in this show have a cock?

I thought you'd like that.

It's a Native American actress playing a native American concept of a two spirit person... Male and female. Only in one episode.
