What's preventing other Jrpgs from selling as well as Final Fantasy? Low quality?

Cringey melodramatic characters and childish stories.

Not enough mature titles in the genre. We need more FF Tactics, less FFX-2.

FF7R is also one of the highest selling JRPGs despite being a weak game, what's your point?
FF7R sold 5 million. A remake of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, launching in the middle of a pandemic that boosted game sales across the board, on a console that had at that point sold 110 million units and had record software sales, sold 5 million. This was in spite of a record breaking launch, where it sold 3.5 million. After that, sales just dropped.

Because the quality, while enough to make it a moderate success, could not sustain long term success. Persona 5 and Nier Automata both started with modest sales compared to FF7R (both sold ~1.5 million in launch month), but then both just kept selling and selling and selling and selling and selling over the long term because of their amazing quality that contributed to word of mouth, and now both are ~8 million sellers, which is not only very literally more than 5x what they launched at, but also more than the long awaited remake of Final Fantasy 7.

Quality absolutely matters. That's my point.

By your logic Pokemon is "god tier" quality wise since that is by and far the most popular JRPG and one of the most popular game series of all time. Even halving the sales to account for the few people who buy both versionf of each new entry, the sales numbers still beat out pretty much every other JRPG even the popular ones like final fantasy and persona by a wide margin.

Pokemon is Pokemon, its a Star Wars type cultural phenomenon that sells because its Pokemon. Its obviously exempt from this discussion, like FIFA or Call of Duty are.
