What if... the PS Vita Successor is ... A SteamDeck?

OP I'm honestly not sure what you mean with bringing in the SteamDeck in. The SteamDeck is a open handheld PC with steamOS pre-installed and tailored to it. Sony would never release an open device like that.

Of course it would be great if Sony made a new handheld with a storefront that is less rigorous to attract more indies.
Sony would never release their eslusive PlayStation games on PC.
Oh wait, they just did it! Multiple times now! Please, stop it, Sony! You're not supposed to...

I don't think Sony needs to create their own PlayStation branded version of Steam Deck. What would be nice, though, is if they could port over some of their better PSP and PS Vita games to PC, similar to what they've done with PS4.

PSP games like LocoRoco and Patapon were brought to PS4 with some higher resolution art assets inserted into them. Even third parties have gotten into the act with games like Lumines Remastered.

I'd like to see Sony produce PC versions of LocoRoco and Patapon, along with other great games like all of the portable Wipeout games (Pure, Pulse, and 2048...actually, scratch that last one and just port Omega Collection which includes 2048 and its sequel) Pursuit Force, Hot Shots Golf, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Killzone: Mercenary, Smart As (seriously, it's great), and more. Obviously, some of the Vita games would need to have their controls slightly modified (because of lack of a rear touch pad), but the PSP stuff should be very easy to bring over. Get a nice group of games like those out there, and then it'll feel like a true PSP and PS Vita successor.

I don't see Sony making another dedicated handheld. Also, with PSVR 2 on the horizon and the ongoing chip shortage, every chip that Sony can buy will go to the PS5 or PSVR2.

Nice strawman, but I never said that.

They are only releasing games several years after exclusivity on the PlayStation. Having an exclusive platform is still their focus.

Now, you could make the argument that the PlayStation is already like a Steam console, as it is x86 hardware running a form of BSD (you do know what they is, right?) But what you were going on about in the OP sounds like you want Sony to partner with Valve for some sort of handheld device. Why would they? They already have their own OS running on x86 hardware with games. Why give up revenue for a partner they don't need? If we're going down this route anyway, then any hardware running on OS is a 'Steam Deck'. There's already a name for that: a computer. So you're essentially saying Sony should release a handheld computer that is to play games on.

And the biggest difference between Sony and Valve? Sony actually bother to release games.

And there was no need to go that far with the insults.

I agree the insults are uncalled for and lame, but in my experience every single time someone used the term "strawman" they turned out to be devoid of of any real arguement worth listening to.
Hopefully your bucking the trend, but it seems unlikely as you seem to be one of those in denial about the Sony pc release freight train that is on a Collison course with day and date.

That's rather silly to immediately judge any argument that uses the term 'strawman' as likely a bad one.

I agree that it is a term that is thrown around too much, but is not what M mhirano did? Claiming I wrote something I never did and then basing their argument/insult on it (very likely because it was easy to prove me wrong based on it)? Seems like a textbook one to me.

And how I am I wrong about the PlayStation PC releases? It's been widely reported and makes obvious sense that they are only releasing older games (note: not 'old') on PC. One that have run their course on PS5 and therefore aren't likely to see significantly more sales there.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to some of the PS exclusive games coming to PC. I don't have (and have never had) a PlayStation, so I'll get to enjoy some games I've not been able to. I've had friends go and about Uncharted and not been able to join in.

The first uncalled insult was calling this thread the dumbest thread of the year. If you are too sensible to take on the heat, maybe you should think twice before offending anyone.

I'm slowly developing a take on this.. something along the lines of... It's not a handheld console.. it's a handheld pc... Games made specifically for consoles are different to pc games in your hand...

Next vita can only be a Vita 2, and it'll only be the next vita once sony abandon it and we can jailbreak it and emulate ps2 titles.

There are many signs pointing to newer games coming, the leaks, what Sony has said, even the confirmed games are getting closer and closer to the release dates. You could be right and there could always be a large gap but it just seems like that gap will shrink and shrink until it doesn't matter. Sony would save a bunch of money advertising both the ps5 and pc versions simultaneously, as well as development costs.

I think it's a foolish move long term but as the dollars roll in they will get greedy, minimizing/rationalizing the impact it will have on console sales.

Your OP is uninformed and silly though. But that's hardly to the level you've taken it.

But if you want to insult away, go ahead.
My OP is full of evidence (for those who can read of course).
And then you offends me calling it dumb but as a snowflake can't take some jokes back.
Maybe it's too hard to be civil and keep a rationao conversation, but then again I found some people who are capable of and willing to do that.
