Man I'm starting to really hate the "View Details" button during these sales. Like Blazblue Cross Tag Battle is 4.99 with "view details" button, that then shows you the COMPLETE experience with all of the characters is $24.99. Then unlike most games with multiple versions, this one doesn't even list specifically what you get with the "Special Edition", so I had to go to the arcsys website. It's just a pain.

In the past few years, buying a game directly from Steam is like trying out outfits in the mall. It's just there to make sure it fits then you get it from somewhere else. Even if you ignore grey market places like CDKeys, completely legit sites like GMG still have much better prices for me.

EDIT: Case in point I just bought the TMNT game for $18 on GMG compared to $22.50 directly from Steam.

tldr: steamspy guy made a speech back in 2017 (GDC I think) where he explained how selling the games too cheap was a problem, it had a huge impact and the industry changed its pricing strategy.
That's exactly what happened.
Now, ignore the fact that said guy is currently running EGS and is giving away games for free en masse with 10$ vouchers for every purchase.

If you played games like contra 3 or contra hard corps on the 16 bit era you are going to like this one. These guys in particular seem to be huge into genesis/Megadrive. They really nailed the style of the era.

how did that work?

From what I recall it was something like this:

Lets say you want a game on steam and lets say its 20 dollars. You would befriend a seller that will sell games using Team Fortress 2 keys as a currency. The keys are used to open loot crates that either drop in Team Fortress 2 or bought on the store and the only way to get keys are either trading with other people/marketplace or buying from the store. The seller will tell you that he want 6 keys for the game and lets say the keys are 2 dollars each to buy. Then you would buy 6 keys make a trade on steam for the game as a gift (usually) or sometime a cdkey (not as secure). So the game would only be 12 dollars instead of the 20 dollars. Usually the prices was ranging from "a little cheaper" than the sale price to even 50% of the sale price on steam. But after steam clamped down on both gifting and trading from other parts of the world where games was cheaper then the "keys for gifts" trading kind of died out. But it was a great time to get games really cheap.

how did that work?

There would be a trader from a region that had cheap games, you would give him a certain amount of tf2 keys and in return he would gift you the game that you wanted.
Can't remember the usual price of a tf2 key back then but let's say it was 1.80€ for each.
The game that you wanted was 40€ on your region, but for the trader, it was something like 10€.
You would give him 7 or 8 tf2 keys, meaning that you got the game cheaper and the trader got some extra cash.

Valve barred this system by not allowing gifting games from different regions (with price disparity if I'm not mistaken). You can still see this type of deals but it's usually bundled games and the trader is a greedy asshole.

With the way some key sites operate it can actually be detrimental to the financial side of things for (smaller) devs when you purchase keys from those websites. Devs have come out numerous time now urging people to pirate their games rather than buy from resellers such as G2A.
