I'm happy. It makes the 3090 purchase even easier. And now I'm thinking a Series X is in my future. I will buy a PS5 someday, but at this rate it'll likely be the midgen refresh. My PS4Pro will be fine for Miles and Horizon.

Why a XSX and 3090?

My plan was likely to pick up a3080, PS5 at launch and a series S for the living room but now a 3090 is tempting because it's going to be unparalleled and I am already a primarily PC gamer (though I have all three consoles.) Series X because GamePass and I find myself resuming cloud saves on my xbox one X when I want to play in my living room. I really enjoy the interconnectivity between P.C and Xbox way more than I thought i would. I do enjoy Sony first party output, but the value isn't there for me at all now that Horizon and Miles Morales are crossgen. That compounded with the rumors of PC ports makes it a no Brainer for me. I will get a PS5 but there is literally no reason for me to get one now. Now I can reinvest my PS5 in a better GPU and will either get a S or X for living room.

Because MS tried to play Sony and Nintendo game.... And failed.... 3 times.

Now they are trying a new approach, Sony and Nintendo don't need to.
@StreetsofBeige
Theres a difference having back compat patches for games on new hardware than developing a game from the ground up on hardware thats 7 years old thats supposed to be for next gen

edit sorry tagged wrong person
If MS could sell hardware as well as PlayStation, they would be saying something very different.

PS4 has loads of games, they are still coming out.... you could play there for years. Now PlayStation want to make a new console that plays new games that do different things. They are not stopping you from playing anything, you buy a PS5 the same way you bought a PS3 or a 360....

I mean... why didn't Spencer cry like this when the Switch launched?
Imagine abandoning the Jaguar CPU in 2021.

BLASPHEMY!
Truer words have never been spoken. I'm not excited for next gen because of BC and Cross-Gen games.....Show me some true next gen looking games ground up.......That's why I'm stoked for every generation. Especially for a generation where the hardware is so well designed......That blazing SSD, that high speed GPU, a powerful CPU with it for once, Smartshift, 3D Audio, Raytracing, New balls to the walls haptic controller and you're telling me I'm paying $500 for a new console, just to play some cross gen games? Sony is on the money here as usual.....
higher resolution PS4 game? Lol. You do realize that Miles' entire character model is brand new with skin shaders way ahead of what we had on the PS4? I mean it's all right here.

Generations are kinda SONY's thing.
its not CGi. it was realtime.

both are trailers running cutscenes in realtime.

But seeing as how you think its CGi, it's clearly a next gen leap.

It's all indie games, not enough to warrant a splurge on new hardware.

TBH if Scorn, Bright Memory Infinite, The Ascent and Exo-Mecha look as good in-game as they did in their trailers (on Series X), I think that'd be a really compelling group of titles in favor of that system against R&C, Miles Morales and even Demon's Souls Remastered.

Yes, the latter three have a lot more brand recognition, but core/hardcore gamers are more open to the lesser-knowns than casuals and mainstream, so those first four could be compelling reasons for them to want to pick up a Series X or Series S in addition (or in lieu) of PS5. At least for some of them, possibly.

Isn't he like a specialist or something, he would know.

He's a genuinely knowledgeable guy on some tech-related stuff IMHO (seems to know a good deal about silicon wafer production process), but...yeah...doesn't prevent them or anyone else from being wrong on some stuff, particularly this wild idea Sony were 100% abandoning that big, fat, thicc PS4 install base.

You're pitting indie games against AAA games. None of those looked particularly amazing, honestly. Maybe they're at Godfall, Destruction All-Stars level, though.

Indeed.

Sony being extremely scummy.

Playstation today was disgusting.

Blocking Xbox and Nintendo fans from getting FFXVI, games for 70 usd, Demon's Souls being weird about the exclusivity, this shit about generations and, the nail in the coffin for me:

The PS5 will cost 950 usd on Brazil.

It's like:

Thanks.... But no thanks.

No way I will give 5000 brl on the PS5.

I rather import the damnn thing and be taxed by government and spend a shit ton on taxes than give more money to Sony.

I hope MS is smart and release the damn Series S for 500 usd here on Brazil and fuck Sony at least here.

As a Playstation fan.... Today was a bad day.

That's your opinion, and going by the reaction I've seen from many people who've seen the games, in the minority. BMI and Exo-Mecha in particular had some really impressive RT and fidelity.

Just because they aren't AAA games with big brand names doesn't make them any less impressive. A good looking game's a good looking game, nothing else to it.

Well, to be fair it does not mean they were not right--they just decided not to follow their own advice. :messenger_sunglasses:

It also depends what kind of sacrifices they do to port the game to PS4, ports don't have to be 100% equal at all levels except graphics.

Oh, so now next-gen games can be scaled down from the most powerful hardware? I thought that wasn't possible? Good to know it changes when discussing PS5.

I mean, I expect Demon's Souls to be among the best games ever made, it looks absolutely incredible and I'm a huge Souls fan. Some of the games you mentioned look like glorified tech demos or walking sims. Scorn has a cool Giger aesthetic but the gameplay doesn't look impressive. BMI just looks like a shinier Shadow Warrior. Okay, I looked up Exo-Mecha, this is my first time seeing it... that looks like my jam honestly... like fuck that looks good. Okay, you scored 1 point on me. I still think they're all going to sell less and get lower Meta scores than the PS5 equivalents, though that's more a general argument than personal preference.

Horizon qualifies but Demon Souls is a remake and Miles an expansion, not sure you can really class those as AAA.

It's like the best looking remake ever, and it's a Souls game, no Souls game has combat that fluid, animations that impressive, like oh my God I'm in pain because I want it so bad. The idea that it's not AAA because it's a remake is so rubbish to me, holy crap, like stick it in me now. Also they've said Miles is a full game akin' to Uncharted Lost Legacy (but I think they specified bigger than that game/longer). I mean... I don't care much either way, never even played the Spider-Man game, so part of the appeal of it is getting both at once and even then I only care so much about Spider-Man type games. I'm really just arguing from a critical/revenue angle, like you cannot tell me those other games are as big to consumers.

It depends what you scale, like those instant loading... you can make your like look like a PS2 game while the textures are loading on the PS4 version, so you end up with pop-ups, etc. (kind of like some areas of FF XV if you will).... or load less different/smaller textures for a specific area, maybe SpiderMan and the new HZ game will move slower in the map (that would be a strange choice).

A game that heavily relies on GPU physics would be something else.

It depends how they used it in the first place.

This is not like all games from all studios will ever require that kind of power.

I guess that means we may not see the real potential of the PS5 until further in the generation than we hoped for... in the mean time we will get high or very high frame rate titles like on the xbox.

Make the thread. Be the leader.
That only ends badly for me. Thanks for the encouragement though. 😉

How about this one? “PS5 games cross gen for the next 3 or 4 years?”

“The PS4 community will continue to be incredibly important to us for three or four years,” Ryan said. “Many will transition to PS5, we hope if we do our job well, but tens of millions will still be engaged with the PS4.”

Edit: LMFAO somebody made it.

Remakes are a scourge. Creativity is already thin on the ground, this new trend of just re-making the same game and charging full price for it can die in a fire.

Miles is an expansion to an existing PS4 game, the original? AAA. An expansion? Not so much.

Yeah because it's Sony's fault that the PS5 costs 950 usd in your country.

The Miles Morales situation is the biggest load of bullshit if you ask me. They are asking you to pay an extra $20usd to get the remasterd PS4 game.
It's a crock of shit because the Miles Morales game, it's the same exact city and graphics engine as the PS4 game. My understanding is as they worked on the PS5 game, they upgraded the graphics engine for the PS5 release and in a way the PS4 original would basically be getting a free upgrade during the process in terms of development.

Like when a Quake, Source or Unreal engine gets new features, the developers can add those features to their games at no charge what so ever.
Very annoyed that Sony are trying to nickle and dime.

It is pretty discouraging if you are hoping to see some bigger PS5 enhancements on their PS4 games.

If that’s how they start out of the gate, how much are they going to support going back and enhancing their 1st party games and giving them away as free updates for their loyal fans?

I am a brazilian lawyer so I can definetly tell you that it's 100% Sony's fault.

The taxes are high? Yep. But not enough to get to 950 usd.

Sony Brazil is a joke.... They always are.

Every beginning of gen is the same shit, by february the price will drop a lot.

I do have cousins living in US and Germany, so that's an option indeed.

I guess, dude. I want games remade, games don't hold up like movies or music. Remake Deus Ex, remake System Shock 2, remake Half-Life (they did!), remake Fallout: New Vegas, I WILL BUY IT. Imagine claiming RE 2 Remake wasn't a AAA game.

No, stop it! My eyes are burning!

I played RE2 Remake and it was good. Though, in my opinion, a much over-hyped A or AA tier game.

My counter-offer; how about they make all-new Deus Ex, System Shock, Half-Life and Fallout?

Fallout 76 is all-new, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is all-new... Half-Life would rather give us VR gimmick games, sorry to everyone who loves Alyx but as a long-time Half-Life fan I am disappoint. We have gotten new entries... they suck... Outer Worlds kinda sucks too.

I'm really disappointed. This probably means that God of War is going to be cross platform.

Horizon Zero Down is confirmed to be released for PS4 as well.

Fuck. This.

Not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed with the show and Sony. Now we are in the same situation as MS.
We believe in generations, my butt. Lies! lol

I still preordered a DE PS5 though because I am sick and tired of this Jetstation of mine.
Also Demon's Souls and Ragnarök are PS5 exclusive (apparently, we shall see).

I’m going to link to myself back in May, saw the writing in the wall back then.
