I'd be 100% on board with Square games if they shifted away from their truly awful character design and Anime archetype characters.

I'm so fucking sick of buckles, spiky hair, giant boots, belts x10. This has been going on since the PSX days (FF9 being the exception).

I know FF16 is supposed to be Medieval and that's honestly the only reason it's on my radar.

Lame as fuck. (n)

On the other end of the spectrum, we also have KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter and KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX . However long it will be developed or if it will see a resurgence in general interest is anyone's guess. They're still both potentially good entries for longtime Kingdom Hearts fans.

-Final Fantasy XVI
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2
-Dragon Quest III HD
-Final Fantasy VII - Ever Crisis
-Triangle Strategy
-New Star Ocean : Divine Force
-Chrono Cross Remaster
(rumored)
-Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered (rumored)
-Tactics Ogre Remaster (rumored)
-Dragon Quest XII
-Dragon Quest X Offline/Online
-Kingdom Hearts 4
-Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier
-Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
-Final Fantasy IX Remake (rumored)
If you compare those with a span of five years 1993-1994-1995-1996-1997:

- Secret of Mana
- Final Fantasy VI
- Front Mission
- Live A Live
- Chrono Trigger
- Trials of Mana
- Radical Dreamers
- Bahamut Lagoon
- Super Mario RPG
- Treasure Hunter G
- Bushido Blade
- Final Fantasy VII
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Chocobo Dungeon
- Einhander
- Front Mission 2
- Front Mission Alternative
- Ogre Battle
- ActRaiser 2
- Illusion of Gaia
- 7th Saga
- Brain Lord
- Robotrek
- Terranigma
- Dragon Quest VI
- Star Ocean
- Tactics Ogre

(and that's just a partial list)

you can see that in both the quality and the quantity, some renesance is of shallow nature.

On one hand you do have them producing some decent products, on the other hand you have stuff like the FF7 remake on Epic. While I know the developers are very different from the publisher its the same brand the damage the latter half makes with its anti consumer practices directly effects how people view the label on the box.

Not to mention that re-releases and remasters were listed as a negative in context in the OP. Since that is a qualifier I say that SquareEnix is still latching onto that crutch a little hard in the remaster / re-release category. I feel that list is too padded. Compared to your list they have a long long way to go.
