Immerse yourself in an intense and brutally violent world based on the richest science fiction fantasy ever created.

In Warhammer® 40,000® Space Marine® you are Captain Titus, a Space Marine of the Ultramarines chapter and a seasoned veteran of countless battles.

A millions-strong Ork horde has invaded an Imperial Forge World, one of the planet-sized factories where the war machines for humanity’s never ending battle for survival are created. Losing this planet is not an option, but a darker and far more evil threat is lurking large in the shadows of this world.

With an Imperial liberation fleet en-route, the Ultramarines are sent in to hold key locations until reinforcements arrive.
Captain Titus and a squad of Ultramarine veterans use bolter and chainsword to take the fight to the enemies of mankind.

The Space Marines or Adeptus Astartes are foremost amongst the defenders of humanity, the greatest of the Emperor of Mankind's warriors. They are barely human at all, but superhuman; having been made superior in all respects to a normal man by a harsh regime of genetic modification, psycho-conditioning and rigorous training. Space Marines are untouched by plague or any natural disease and can suffer wounds that would kill a lesser being several times over, and live to fight again. Clad in ancient Power Armour and wielding the most potent weapons known to Man, the Space Marines are terrifying foes and their devotion to the Emperor and the Imperium of Man is unyielding. They are the God-Emperor's Angels of Death, and they know no fear.

The Astartes are physically stronger, far more resilient and often mentally far removed from the lot of most normal human beings. In the presence of the Astartes, most people feel a combination of awe and fear, and many cultures on the more primitive worlds simply worship them outright as demigods or angels of the God-Emperor made flesh. They should feel so, for many Space Marines feel little compassion for those they have sometimes termed "mortals" in comparison to themselves, seeing the very people they were created to protect as little more than obstacles to a more efficient eradication of the Imperium's enemies. This is an attitude sometimes taken by whole Chapters. They see normal humans as frail, weak creatures given to the follies of temptation, avarice, greed, lust and cowardice -- all emotions they rarely feel, if ever. Yet there are some Astartes who remember why they were created by the Emperor, who avoid the trap of hubris which the Space Marines are so prone to and which has seduced so many of their number to serve the Ruinous Powers of Chaos. They are the final guardians of Mankind, the saviours of last resort. They were intended not to lead humanity, but to defend it, sometimes even from itself. At the heart of that mission lies the limitless compassion the Emperor extended to every man and woman in the galaxy when he willingly chose to condemn himself to more than 10,000 years of imprisonment within a dying prison of flesh for their sake. Some Astartes sneer at compassion, seeing it as one more human weakness that has been purged from their superior bodies and minds. But the wisest of the Space Marines know that in the end compassion is their only salvation, as it is for all men. In that, they have proven themselves to be fully human.

Captain Titus of the Ultramarines has fought for the Imperium for more than 150 years. Although considered a relatively young Space Marine, he is a decorated veteran of major campaigns waged across the galaxy – his exploits have earned him a reputation as one of the mightiest Ultramarines. Over his long service, Titus has overcome countless opponents and suffered many wounds, both physical and psychological. In his earliest days, he struggled to overcome his own temper. Later, he survived the death of his entire squad at the hands of a Chaos Sorcerer; Titus killed the fiend, but suffered terrible wounds -- and some questioned how he survived. Titus became company commander when his predecessor died in battle. He was by his mentor's side when he fell, and still feels the weight of taking over his mantle.

ySmeO.png

Sergeant Sidonus, the Veteran Ultramarine, has seemingly seen it all. His ‘been there, done that, no problem’ attitude and dry sense of humor instantly serve to defuse tense situations. But when faced with the enemy, Sidonus is their worst nightmare – a brutally efficient warrior who won’t stop until every enemy lies dead at his feet. As Captain Titus’ closest friend and confident, Sidonus has served the Imperium for 225 years and bears the marks of this extended battle – including a bionic arm to replace one lost in battle against the Tyranids. When an Eldar weapon destroyed his eye and part of his face, Sidonus decided to leave the scars in place as a reminder of his victory over this formidable enemy.
zbY5f.png

Leandros is the most recent inductee to the Ultramarines command squad. He is a ‘by the book’ Ultramarine, revealed by his overly formal speech and his enthusiasm to do things just right. Leandros often speaks with little tact – to his mind, all actions must serve the Emperor, and he will question the motives of anyone he suspects of not giving their all for the Imperium. He’s lost perspective on what it’s like to face the world from a human standpoint, and is especially patronizing to the surviving Imperial Guard soldiers he encounters on the Forge World. He looks up to battle brothers Titus and Sidonus, but especially Titus, whom he sees as the type of Ultramarine he aspires to become. He sometimes goes overboard in pursuing what he thinks is a noble course of action, because he wants to prove himself and his abilities.
A5B8u.png

2nd Lieutenant Mira leads a beleaguered Imperial Guard force against the Ork invaders of the Forge World. Her soldiers are survivors of a much larger detachment that was decimated after the Orks cut them off from orbital support and reinforcements. Lieutenant Mira was part of the 203rd Cadian regiment that was on route to another war zone. Their troop carrier was suddenly diverted to Forge World Graia as the only Imperial Guard force close to the planet. Mira’s experience and skill as a tactician, coupled with her uncompromising humanity and refusal to give up, commands fierce loyalty among her men. All she wants is to save the soldiers she’s sworn to lead, but she sees little hope of withstanding the Orks for much longer.
ngk0H.png

The Inquisitor is a relentless member of the shadowy organization charged with destroying the enemies of the Imperium. He bears the physical and mental scars of a lifetime spent in the darkest corners of the Galaxy. Many years ago, he fell into the hands of fiendish aliens who tortured him for years. Since then, his hatred of alien species has driven him to develop innovative new ways of destroying them. The Inquisitor has pursued technologies and techniques thought lost or impossible in his battle against the alien. His greatest creation is a unique power source that channels tremendous amounts of a mysterious energy. Since then he has striven to develop a weapon to channel this power and turn it upon Humanity's alien foes.

  • Gretchin
In Ork society the tiny Gretchin are at the bottom of the pile.
They are often enslaved and forced to serve their Ork masters. Gretchin attack in mobs and although relatively harmless to a Space Marine can serve well as a distraction for something bigger and more deadly.
  • Bomb Squig
Squigs are the simplest species of Orkoid life and are little more than snapping, fanged mouths on legs.
Trained by the Orks as attack pets, the squigs are deadly against most foes. As an additional layer of lethality some Orks strap a squig with explosives and send it rushing towards a foe as a makeshift explosive device.
  • Shoota Boyz
Boyz are the basic ranged unit in an Ork warband.
Wielding a huge belt fed machine gun, accuracy and finesse are thrown to the wind in exchange for rate of fire and noise.
  • Slugga Boyz
Slugga Boyz are the backbone of most Ork warbands.
Formed into huge mobs and armed with razor edged choppas they are equipped for close combat.
  • 'Ard Boy
‘Ard Boyz wear heavy armour pieced together from steel plates and equipment scavenged from defeated foes.
Their armour and natural resilience makes them able to wade through fire that would shred most Orks. The ‘Ard Boy also wields a heavy riot shield and choppa to get close to the player and deal out some pain.
  • Slugga Nob
Orks literally thrive on combat, growing physically larger and stronger the more they fight.
When an Ork becomes big enough they become a leader known as a Nob weighing several tonnes and impervious to attacks that would slay a normal Ork. Even to a Space Marine a Nob is a worthy adversary – the Nobs can counter their attacks.
  • Shoota Nob
Like its melee counterpart a ranged Nob is an Ork who has grown in size beyond its peers giving it a commanding role in the army.
Favouring ranged weapons, these Nobs will often wield the largest available shootas. Upgraded ranged Nobs will use more advanced weaponry and armour to increase their effectiveness.
  • Storm Boy
Stormboyz are fierce Ork warriors who gamble with their lives by strapping on crude rokkit packs to propel themselves towards the enemy.
  • Weirdboy
Weirdboyz are Ork Psykers acting as a sort of psychic sponge absorbing the energies of nearby Orks and unleashing them as devastating psychic attacks.
As well as offensive attacks the more talented Weirdboyz can teleport themselves and other Ork units in and out of combat at will.
  • Pro enemies
Pro Orks are hardened, stronger versions with changed weapons and different behaviour.

106Ep.png

  • Renegade Militia
Renegade Militia are human soldiers who have forsaken the Emperor and cast their lot with the dark and unknowable powers of Chaos. Although some actively worship the Dark Gods, most are more akin to madmen who have surrendered to bloodlust and move from battlefield to battlefield. Renegades are equipped with grenades and lasguns.
  • Tainted Psyker
Psykers are humans with psychic powers who tap into the corrupting power of the Warp -- and the Chaos Gods who inhabit it. Tainted Psykers have been driven mad by constant exposure to this dark power, falling to Chaos and stripped of all that once made them human. Tainted Psykers are consumed by the power within them, and explode into portals into the Warp itself, allowing daemons and Chaos enemies to invade this reality. They can also use the Warp to shield themselves from enemy fire.
  • Chaos Space Marine
Before falling to Chaos, they were once loyal warriors of the Emperor, but now are a dark inverted reflection of the Space Marines. In combat, Chaos Space Marines are brutal and efficient killing machines. Some servants of Chaos may revel in berserk fury, but these Chaos Space Marines march with deadly precision, dispatching all who face them without pity.
  • Chaos Space Marine Havoc
Chaos Space Marine Havocs are Chaos Space Marines who specialise in killing at range with heavy weaponry. Armed with autocannons, lascannons, plasma cannons and other devastating ranged equipment, this foe can cut down even the best armoured Space Marine warrior.
  • Bloodletter Daemon
Summoned directly from the warp, the Bloodletter Daemons strike fear and despair into the hearts of men. Their vicious swords inflict a powerful rending attack which can be devastating even for a Space Marine. They move and fight in packs, ‘warping’ from one position to another, making them lethal adversaries.
  • Chaos Drone
A large, demon-possessed aerial unit equipped with a heavy autocannon, Chaos Drones provide aerial support to the forces of Chaos. Its central eye can see its target no matter what cover the enemy hides behind. An insane Warp manifestation, the Chaos Drone is part flesh, part machine, and pure evil.

Space Marine features a fluid combat system that allows players to seamlessly switch from ranged to melee weapons without interrupting the flow of combat.

Hitting the melee button at any time will result in a close range strike with the equipped hand-to-hand weapon as well as the camera pulling out to melee distance.
Pulling either trigger will instantly snap the view back to behind the player’s shoulder ready for precise shooting.
These systems are immediately responsive and leave the player in full control at all times.

As the player dispatches enemies in Space Marine they will be earning FURY which can be used to unleash devastating ranged or melee attacks.
The player can use FURY MARKSMAN to enter a heightened form of awareness where time seems to slow down allowing them to pick off multiple ranged enemies in the blink of an eye.
Alternately the player can opt to utilize their FURY STRIKE up close and personal with a sweeping area of affect attack that will obliterate anything close enough and knock-back and stun more distant foes.

This character is the most versatile and plays more closely to the main character, Titus, with regards to his movement.
His melee weapon is the Combat Knife and cannot be changed.

Loadout:
  • Primary Weapon
  • Secondary Weapon (with Weapon Versatility perk)
  • Special Equipment (grenades, etc.)
  • Class Perk 1
  • Class Perk 2
Weapons:
  • Bolter
  • Storm Bolter
  • Stalker-pattern Bolter
  • Plasma Gun
  • Melta Gun
  • Vengeance Launcher

HKNAB.png

The Devastator carries the largest and most powerful weapons at the cost of slightly slower movement speed and a less dramatic evade move.
When using the Heavy Bolter, he is able to enter a Braced Fire mode by pressing the RELOAD / VENT / DETONATE button (right bumper or R, usually) which dramatically increases the Heavy Bolter's rate of fire.
His melee moves are a forward kick and a large stomp.

Loadout:
  • Primary Weapon
  • Special Equipment (grenades, etc.)
  • Class Perk 1
  • Class Perk 2
Weapons:
  • Heavy Bolter
  • Plasma Cannon

The Assault Marine is the Jump Pack character. He's really agile and can be quite difficult to master.
The Multiplayer Jump Pack isn't quite as forgiving as the one found in the Campaign for balance reasons.
This character is a bit more lightly armored than the other classes, but can customize his melee and ranged weapons.

Loadout:
  • Melee Weapon
  • Pistol (can be replaced by a Bolter with the True Grit perk)
  • Special Equipment (grenades, etc.)
  • Class Perk 1
  • Class Perk 2
Weapons:
  • Bolt Pistol
  • Plasma Pistol
  • Bolter (with True Grit perk)
  • Chainsword
  • Power Axe
  • Thunder Hammer
  • Power Sword (with retailer bonus thing)

Coming to Space Marine as free DLC in October, the four-player Exterminatus Mode pits an elite squad of four Space Marines against hordes of alien enemies in a score based fight to the death.
You can choose from the Tactical Marine, Devastator or Assault Marine as well as utilizing any weapons and perks available to those classes.
Each of the Exterminatus scenarios, ‘Assault on Hab Center Andreas’ and ‘Escape From Kalkys Facility’ feature multiple areanas, global leader boards, encouraging you to take the risk on dynamic in-game challenges that pop up during play.
For example, “Kill 10 Orks in 10 seconds”. With extra lives and points up for grabs if you complete a challenge.

Experience earned while playing this mode also counts towards multiplayer ranks, allowing you to level up in both Co-Op and Multiplayer.
  • Space Marine will have 4 player online Co-Op and will be FREE to anyone who purchases the game.
  • Co-Op will be Space Marine vs. Orks & Forces of Chaos.
  • All 3 Multiplayer classes will be available (Tactical Marine, Devastator or Assault Marine)
  • Multiplayer Perks can be applied to each of the 3 classes that you have unlocked via Multiplayer progression
  • Co-Op progression will apply to your multiplayer ranking (Unlocks perks & weapons)
  • Co-Op will initially launch with 2 scenarios: Assault on Hab Center Andreas & Escape from Kalkys Facility. Each will include multiple arenas.
  • Co-Op will be score based featuring global leaderboards. There will be score multipliers and dynamic challenges to help teams boost their scores.

The Visual Customizer is another beast entirely and has no impact on your character's performance or ability (only how badass he looks).
Each armor area can be colored individually from a large set of colors. Those areas can be further edited with a specific pattern to allow for classic and unconventional color schemes seen in the popular chapters.

You can see a demonstration of the Customizer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlurHvYx0Ro

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
Wow, awesome OT.

For the emperor!

edit : just to point out, these kind of well made OTs push me to buy games I didn't originally intend to. Like in this case.

I am so pumped. Still not sure if I should get in on 360 or PC. Great OP, derFeef.

An OP worthy of the emperor.

Wasn't really looking forward to this game till I tried the demo. Now I'm quite excited.

Space Wolves and Black Templar skins are Gamestop exclusive? Or can we still make them in the editor?

Great OT. I'm a huge 40k fan and I loved the demo. I can't wait for this game.

edit: <--- took this one I'm trying to remember the chapters name.

Great OP! Have had this preordered for awhile, and like most, absolutely adored the demo, best demo Ive played in quite awhile.

One week!

Also....

<---- yoink!

Had no interest to begin with.

Pre-ordered on Steam on impulse just to try the demo early.

So freakishly fun that I'm glad I did.

I'm ready!

I am so freaking pumped for this game. I'm not into the Wahammer universe at all, but this game just speaks to me. I've played the demo on Steam for longer than some full games I've purchased this year.

This wasn't on my radar either til I played the demo.

For the Emperor.

Excellent OT!

To anyone who hasn't played the demo yet, I would highly recommend checking it out. This game went from pretty much off my radar to a day 1 buy after playing the demo. I've got it preordered on Steam and now I just need to play the waiting game.

So hard to decide between this and Resistance 3. Ugh. Good OP. Just hope the PS3 version gets a good amount of sales to make the online worthwhile.

Don't need a review to know this is gonna be the bees knees.

"It is better to die for the Emperor than to live for yourself."

My body is ready.

As a huge 40k fan, I was pretty excited about this game when it was announced. The problem was that the videos I'd seen were making me a little wary, which sucked.

But all those doubts and fears disappeared after I played the demo. It is so much fun, I can't believe how great this game is. Super excited, day 1.

I'm actually kind of excited for this game after playing through the demo a few more times. I might have to get a 360 controller just for this game though.

I hope someone does, I have no idea how that works :)

I can do it when I get home tonight.

You mean...as in...I make a new gamertag called

GAF-40K

Accept all the friend requests and then people creep gamertags through the friend of a friend feature, yes?

That would be the Black Templars

And I can't wait for this. I was unsure until the demo but that sold me. I don't think I have ever played a demo that match.

Was very skeptical about this until I played the demo, now I am buying it day one. Relic does a great job with the Dawn of War series so I am sure this will be great.

For the Emperor my friends!

Great OT, I didn't even know there is some coop mode coming down the line. That cool. I am actually surprised of myself. I have this on pre-order instead of Resistance 3. I guess the second game has still left a too much of a bad taste.
