As expected, not every single Bethesda game will be excluded from PlayStation

This is the next step in building an industry-leading first party studios team, a commitment we have to our Xbox community. With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.

We will have more to share about what’s next for our teams later this year. In the meantime, to properly celebrate this special moment, we are bringing additional Bethesda games into Xbox Game Pass later this week. Stay tuned for more details!

Outside of a pissing contest, why do xbox fans care if bethesda games are exclusive or not? It really doesnt change a thing in that persons life at all.
On an individual game basis it makes no difference. If The Last of Us released on Xbox, Sony wouldn't stop making good games either.

But over a generation or longer, we want these companies to succeed. The better one is, the better the other has to be.

In an ideal world there would be no exclusives, but if one company has exclusives and the other doesnt, it's obvious which console you buy, which in turn means your not likely to enter into the other ecosystem. That kills the competition.

Well there you have it. Many of these titles will probably still be multi-plat at least for now, but some will be ecosystem exclusive. Probably moving more in the exclusive direction over time. At least if you read that statement at face value, we'll see how it goes down the line.

That's fair enough. If it were me I would have gone 100% full exclusive, but as long as they get some marketable exclusives out of it (Starfield?), it's still a good get for the brand.

Just edited that exclusive part in from the news article on my post. We'll see how this all progresses.

A vague statement. Remember they're still honoring pre-acquistion deals like Death Loop.

Don't expect a direct answer for awhile

Well, it seems as though that's what they're going to keep doing, minus some games that are exclusive.

Phil's comment was covering for future announced titles that are under contract such as Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop that are coming to PS5. ESO is probably included in that as well as they don't want to lock out existing customers.

All new big IPs will be Microsoft exclusive. ES6, Starfield and Indiana Jones are Xbox exclusive.

I'm actually not sure about Starfield (and Wolf3 which is expected to be released this year). If it's planned to be launched this year then PS version is almost done, so they could decide to release it anyway.

Vague statements as usual. No direct answer yet lol

True, true. They seem to be giving themselves a lot of wiggle room.

They seem to be putting a lot of emphasis on trying not to screwup Bethesda in general post merger, so that's good.

Those games weren't announced. Many games get developed for platforms and never see the light of day.

Cant dump any work in progress on Playstation consoles already made. Its a vague statement to not turn anyone away. Including giving Sony fanboys hope lol.

Seems like another Twitter nobody that's trying to cover his ass.

Phil's statement covered for existing titles that have been announced for other platforms and are under contract. No need to make it more complicated than it already is.

Well, but according to Sony faithful there weren't going to be any exclusive titles (MS couldn't afford it). At least they were somewhat firm that that is not the case. :messenger_tongue:
Only mobile and small titles will be GamePass exclusive.

Can you imagine Disney putting Wandavision on Netflix because there were other Marvel movies on Netflix and they'll be "leaving money on the table." The purpose of Disney is to grow their own platform not help Netflix keep subscribers.

There were no platforms announced in this trailer.

what people seem to forget here as well is Nintendo btw.

when people think of games that aren't exclusive they immediately jump to "it's coming to PS5", but what about the Switch/Switch Pro?

there already have been multiple games that Microsoft published and financed that came to Switch.

ID Tech 7 runs on Switch, so ID Tech games could be ported over no problem most likely

MS hasn't put any of their own titles on there though, have they (excluding minecraft)? Ori and Cuphead were made by studios not under MS's control, so while MS could have forced exclusivity due to the publishing arrangements, that would have soured the relationship with those developers. I'm sure MS is hoping to work with Moon on their next projects as well.

Microsoft owns the Ori franchise and published the game on Switch. so it is their own game

and I don't think any developer would assume that they would get the green light to port a game they developed for a first party publisher onto a competing platform.

edit: oh and also, the Cuphead devs confirmed that it was in fact Microsoft's suggestion to port the game to Switch

They don’t. Just that they don’t appear on PS consoles. The assumption is that because they were purchased these games are now synonymous with the x brand. We know that’s not the case since 7 years later nobody associates bayonetta with Nintendo, especially like Mario or even pokemon. This is similar to prelaunch when the series x was supposed to wipe the floor with PS and now we have parity and it’s too much to take. Same here. Anything less than absolutely all games being made exclusive will be a big loss. There are 1 million “you don’t spend 7.5 billion dollars to release games on a competitor platform...” posts that fully expect 100% exclusivity and won’t accept less.

Another thing to consider is that MS could get higher royalties per sale on PS5 Bethesda games, depending on how the deal is written, so this could be why they're using this verbiage. In this case, it would be in their interest to get the heavy hitters on ps5. They would literally make that 7.5 billion back faster, and make more cash in the long run allowing PS5 games because it's a much more popular console. Same for Switch 2 etc.

A good strategy for PS fans is to wait it out. Even if you don't want an xbox, itll be a dirt cheap option in 3 years. The XSS will likely be $200 lol and the XSX $350 on black Friday. Or less. Download the games on gamepads, play them until boredom. Sell or whatever. PC is always best, but not everyone can afford it.
