Lethal01, you have a warped sense of imagination about me. If I was starting something with that comment without mentioning anything specifically, the mods would have banned me as they did last week. However, the people who came out and *did* start up a PC vs. PS5 thread got banned. Sometimes, you really need to take a step back and ask yourself if every single time I post is geniune or not. Believe it or not, I do have decent conversation.

Back on topic because any further comments about this will be YOU causing the thread to be derailed by simply you accusing me of shit for no reason.

Sorry dude but honestly every thread i see that you are replying is always about PC vs PS5 warring or console or downplaying the consoles or PS5.

Seems we aren't frequenting the same forum, because in this forum the amount of Sony fans claiming that the UE5 demo couldn't run on PC or Xbox without compromises was MASSIVE.

Running on PC and having a custom tailored demo showcasing streaming assets with the SSD are two different things. This demo isn't showing the character moving at light speed through a long distance of area where everything is loaded instantly as she passes at almost warp speed.

This shows same assets, character in a arena type level that is commented on by narrator. No where in this 15 minute preview did we see the use of the SSD like we did in U5 PS5 demo where the character was flying through the air to a new area in the long distance.

Which was specifically shown to show you the ssd speed of streaming assets. Xbox series x 2.4 gb/s, PS5 5.5/s WITH an all custom I/O.

So no you have no clue wtf you are talking about. Direct storage update still isn't out yet for Direct X 12 which is what XBox will use.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but regards to the first UE5 demo showcased on the PS5 didn't utilise the GE or the power of the IO.

the day about the end of the i/o streaming bs is coming ?

Actually confirmed. According to Epic, this new demo is hundreds of millions of polygons vs hundreds of billions of polygons in the older UE5 demo on PS5. It's like 100,000% difference.

Also the older one was 1440p, the new one is 1080p.

You managed to turn a technical thread into a PS5 vs PC

Unlike the UE5 demo thread of last year, which was not at all a bunch of Sony fans claiming that the PS5 was above anything else, PC included. I guess that was VFXVeteran VFXVeteran fault, too.

And there wasn't much warring because it was really hard to contradict anything on that thread without being met with dogpiling, personal attacks and the like. Sony fans were too ecstatic believing their own lies about the magical power of the PS5 to care about anything else.

i laughed when John of digital foundry said in their analysis video that ps fanboys were saying that the demo couldn't run on other platforms.

Many many people assumed that the scene last year was maxing out the PS5's I/O system. Only real developers knew this was not the case. We had no idea what the data rate was or what was being streamed on-the-fly. As it turns out, it was more a marketing scheme for Sony and it worked.

Not really, time stamped, the faster you can stream from SSD, the smaller your memory requirement, look there is even a little circle to explain it.

Everyone knew exactly what was meant. I guess 64 MB is a solution, do you ever think it will get to 128 MB RAM requirement ?

Here's what people are not grasping at the difference in each demo they are showing:

That time stamp when she's flying to her destination with all the assets being loaded instantly is akin to Ratchet and clank's use of it. SHow me in this new demo where that is happening? Character is in a arena built level which is literally explained by Unreal engine developer.

I don't think the best way to defend him it's persist with the console war...

Those are requirements to create a game in the engine. To run the demo only, doesn't require that much RAM. A random guy @Red_Driver85 posted running it on a live stream had a 3090 with high framerate, and he was running it on a HDD 😂😂😂😂. Fucking Tim Sweeney had you and several others looking real foolish today. Of course marketing deals and PR will be out there, but it's easier to use common sense to realize Reality>>>>>Marketing PR. It's like believing in Santa Claus or that the Tooth fairy is real.
Its funny because I watched his stream and it lagged hard on his rig. But keep on with your interpretation of all this stuff though. Its highly amusing.

This new demo is 1000% less polygons according to the wording for Epic devs in both videos. So it's UE5 demo Lite. Hundreds of Billions (old on PS5) vs Hundreds of Millions (new). Also 1440p (old) vs 1080p (new). Should we care much? No, the new one looks fantastic.

animations are not a limitation though. they just weren't focusing on that.

So just as I was afraid last yer, this number confirms that we can forget about that kind of level of details in games, a whole game looking like that would be in terabytes, so it ain't gonna happen, the artist will still have to cut down the polygons of their model because of the disk space restraints.

Well, they'd do that anyways. Optimizing is always part of the process. Both of these UE5 demos have been technical demos for developers, not showpiece demos for us gamers. (Unfortunately, they have to be ingested whichever way they come to us since we don't have a lot of bleeding-edge next-gen like this to feed on yet.) They're giving 100GB of models and Quixel megascans in a package because you'd use that much to create a game; to print it to disc or app, you'd not actually included all that bulk.

I'm just worried what the optimizing means. Given how they've pitched it so far about WISIWYG game construction with infinite visibility of everything in a game scene, I don't know how you optimize and still have quality you can see in 'infinite scale'? I said elsewhere that developers are used to outputting game-ready versions of Quixel scans, but is this just all textures in this package, or what else is pushing the massive file size for this one scene?

Even if they optimize it so an actual game is is 1/10th as big, even 10GB for every level that's as big as one desert landscape and two character is still way too big.

(For comparison's sake, the demo/short film A Boy and His Kite from 2015 was I believe 6GB in packaged data.)

This demo was clearly downgraded compared with the last year one... even the IQ shows that.
The reason? Nobody knows.

We literally see the character teletransporting to a totally different area in 1 second.

3 seconds and it's a transition, go look at the previous demo of the charcter flying through the air, to the destination in the distance. Thats not in this demo, there's a white flash and couple second transition to the level. It was loading in seconds for sure, but there was no realtime of her going through a long distance place where everything was being loaded in instantly.

i think you may need to check into a mental ward

Maybe try clicking on the epic web site stating requirements for the demo

64 MB and a big GPU to do 1080p30 ? I am sure we will get benchmarks soon enough but

I wish they`d demoed a different landscape this time.
Static Grand-Canion-esque landscapes have been looking mighty fine for quite a while now thanks to photogrammetry.

I want to see how a jungle or a savannah , something with a lot of dynamic vegetation, looks with UE5.

Supposedly nanite doesn't work with moving objects like foliage blowing in the wind.

You can look at the video you know. No lagging or hitches, while running the EDITOR. Once you finally realize how much power it takes to run, you'll realize how intensive it is. They were utilizing much more memory on last year demo running the editor on PC, as well as this year. Running the editor uses more resources than the baked demo on both of the consoles. But you already knew this I'm sure.

Now I won't be happy unless Goodbye Volcano High switches from Unity to UE5. They gotta use Nanite + Lumens technology for hyper-real, 8K furry action with exquisite lighting. Mark my words, Goodbye Volcano High will become the new Crysis.

/s

FFS can we just enjoy a demo without degenerating to pitiful console + PCMR warring?

It wouldn’t look as good. Rocks are the perfect thing for this tech, so they’re gunna stick with it for a bit

PC needs 64GB RAM for the new version, so what do you think?
It can't run with less ram? That's interesting you are using the recommended specs, vs the ones stated by Epic to run the demo @ 30fps. We should use the truth from now on, instead of hoping others won't notice, agreed?
