No it doesnt. Its the same architecture lmao...
So what? It isn't ready to run in different resolutions, framerates, different CPU/GPUs/memory sizes and speeds, different controllers, keyboard an mouse controls, doesn't have different sets of textures or models etc. etc. etc. These games are highly optimized for a single hardware which also in addition of having the smae architecture its hardware has many customizations.

with all games available on pc. And steam deck and other console like systems on the horizon.

Playstation future is looking grim.
All their games won't be available. They will keep porting some several years old games from time to time already given away 'for free' to the console players, not all their games. It won't remove them sales, it wil give them more revenue and fans.

"killed my desire to get a PS5" is bullshit. These games are PS4 games. It's releasing on PC now so PC gaming community can play the franchise for the first time ever. If you want to play on PS5 you can via retro. It's a bullshit complain IMO.

Perfect example of the state of gaming journalism these days :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Manufactured low level drama to try to get hits are the new editorials :messenger_poop:
Just because a collection of old games (the most recent one is 4 years old and the oldest is 15 years old) might be released on PC (it's not even confirmed), there's no reason to buy a PS5 anymore......
LOL at least try to save face and make up a credible story :messenger_tears_of_joy:

"I don't want this new console anymore because I can now play these old games on something else," isn't quite the gotcha he thinks it is.

Save the money you’d spend buying a ps5 and put it towards good gaming pc. No need to complain about them putting their games on pc. Uncharted is pretty overrated anyways.

Good luck building a PC at a reasonable price then.

Console vs PC has always been a question of up-front costs. And consoles win.

1) Why do you think you are part of an important part of mindshare ? imo you're in a niche but i don't have numbers and no part of my job give me time to search and compile data to have a better idea.
2) Do you really need that much thinking to see that the small margin sony gain from selling hardware will never outweight the loss on the exclusive software in your scenario....(down the road mean you will buy them at 1/2 or 1/3 the price or worst second hand and sony gain nothing here)
1) I don't, I was simply agreeing with the notion this will cause less people to actually buy a console. It's fairly sound logic. I'm not saying it's a sizable chunk of their typical hardware sales...but maybe it is, who knows. I wasn't even speaking in the 1st person, lol.
2)Hardware is part of this equation, and services are another. No one is gonna be subbing to PSN in this scenario, right? Valve gets 15% of these sales now too, right? Piracy is still a rampant and pervasive issue on PC right?

I don't think this will ultimately harm Sony in the grand scheme of things, as they are kinda too big to fail anytime soon.

Anyways, the entire reason I even commented in this thread is to point out how a concerning percentage of people here seemingly didn't even read the article, and/or understand the authors point. Sure, it's clickbaity...but there is truth in there.

PC crowd is already bigger than what PS5 (or any xbox) or future Sony console can E V E R... hope to sell during all the generation. Let me tell you again we are moving towards a hw agnostic future and the PC will be a fundamental part of this transition .. soon there will be very few games that will not be released on PC especially if we speak about AAA first party titles. Sony unlike the fanboys is not stupid and is moving exactly in that direction ..... Microsoft has accelerated a lot for various reasons.

1) Ms was never going to sell the same number of consoles as the competition.

2) Nadella and all the new Microsoft are interested only in subscription services ... for this reason we seeing the huge investments that no other among the big 3 console producers could face if not Xbox backed up by all the company

3) Microsoft knows very well that Windows is his operating system as he knows very well that it has one of the first 3 Cloud services in the world, Azure .... so it is not at all afraid to invest in that platform (Windows) and in that direction (streaming)

If a leak of really old games coming to PC impacts your desire for PS5, that's embarrassing. Also, no one cares Techradar.

Games released on the PS4 coming to PC makes you not want a PS5. Cool.
That was my thoughts exactly, lmao. I was like, "Oh, it IS coming to PC? Well that's cool for people that care." But, they're dated games, how does that affect the PS5? Lol.

I really don't see anything wrong with Sony porting their games to the PC and hopefully putting their games on mobile devices as well. I hope they port their whole entire catalog to the pc and mobile phones. I am proud of jim ryan and sony for doing this.

"It’s almost inevitable that a new Uncharted will at some point turn up for the PS5, and that meant that I was sold on eventually buying one, despite mainly playing on PC.

However, if the Uncharted Collection is coming to PC, it could mean that any future Uncharted games will also turn up on the platform, that means I’m now less interested in buying a PS5."

Since seemingly NO ONE read the actual article, and I'm tired of explaining myself over and over...

I'm sure that playing old Uncharted games on his computer will kill all desire to play new stuff coming out for 5-6 years.

You want to prove there is logic in what you said but so far to convince me all you brought to the table was fear, uncertainty and bold claims.
And good luck to prove it when current revenue and profit of the two doing what you dont like are the reverse of what it should to be to back it up or when sony feedback to shareholder is it's not that important anymore today...but this is probably why this can only be a blog post.

the way at how you look at it is like PC gamers will be second tier citizens ..
I don't think PC gamers are second tier citizens (I'm a PC gamer too), I only think for Sony their priority -or at least it's what they say- their priority is to make makes for PlayStation, so form them they have priority the PS gamers.

And they see PC as a new market (secondary for them) where they can expand to get new fans/customers. In some console friendly countries people who may potentially also end buying their console to play their newer games, and in some other countries where it's difficult or too expensive (or simply culturally they prefer to play on PC) to play consoles they see PC as a way to reach new fans/customers.

and here is where you all are mistaken .... I agree with that, and I think it would be stupid for Sony to release all their games day one on PC because it would negatively affect their main business, which is to sell (1st and specially 3rd, exclusive and specially multi) games, DLC and services for their console. I think to port only some games to PC instead of all and to do it when they are several years old and already completed their commercial life on console instead of releasing them day one on PC (or at least most of them, I assume some F2P multiplayer game may be day one on PC) is smart because gives them extra profit and fans (who may also milk them with future movies, tv show etc Sony is making about console gaming IPs) while not negatively affecting their console business.

1) Ms was never going to sell the same number of consoles as the competition.

2) Nadella and all the new Microsoft are interested only in subscription services ... for this reason we seeing the huge investments that no other among the big 3 console producers could face if not Xbox bcked up by all the conpany

3) Microsoft knows very well that Windows is his operating system as he knows very well that it has one of the first 3 Cloud services in the world, Azure .... qamong the big 3 he could face if not Ms. Microsoft knows very well that unlike Sony, Windows is their owned platform as they knows very well that it has also one of the first 3 Cloud services in the world, Azure .... so it is not at all afraid to invest in that platform (Windows) and in that direction (streaming)
Yes, I think MS has been moving slowly their gaming business from consoles to PC and from sales to subscriptions because it's there where they have their main focus and business, and game/console sales were a small part for them. I also think MS wasn't doing a good business with consoles if we get the Xbox numbers since they started start so they are slowly moving their gaming focus to PC and subscription to at least use gaming to support their core businesses.

Sony's main business instead it's to sell software for their own console, so for them PC is something secondary, a new support revenue source. They are breaking game industry records for a console maker regarding console units sold, amount of games sold for a console or revenue generated, and this business is the main one of their corporation, so won't move from focusing on console. They are happy with their results there and will continue focusing there since they don't have any reason to move away because their current strategy is working perfectly. They are also trying other markets like VR, PC, mobile or subscriptions and soon GaaS, multiplayer games and F2P games, while also making moves to grow in eSports and Asia, or even bringing their main PS IPs to movies and tv shows, but to expand their main (console) market and continue growing, not to move away.

P.S.: Azure doesn't even has a 20% of market share (they have been growing in the recent years), they are the 2nd biggest ones but the market is spread among many other brands.

OP shot himself in the foot with this thread.

Really? The uncharted collection is why you wanted a Ps5? Makes no sense, buy a PS4 and buy the collection for much cheaper

Why would you get a PS5 for, of all things, the uncharted games? Get a new system for new games.

Who writes this crap? I mean I know it says so in the title, but still.

They just want to stir controversy. The author says: "it could mean that any future Uncharted games will also turn up on the platform". We don't even know if the franchise is retired. Also, if a new Uncharted game comes out, it has 0% chance to release on PC until after a year at least. If you are not going to buy a PS5 for games you like until they come to PC, then you are a PC gamer, not a PS gamer.

People need to be real.

If a PC gamer didn't found the reason to buy a PS3 or PS4 for those games, they will never buy it no matter what.

Throwing it towards PC atleast creates some additional sales that can bankroll a sequel in the future. Its a win for both.

If you have a PS5 this shouldn't matter to you. More gamers to play with.
If you have a PC you should be happy you're getting a PS exclusive. Also more gamers to play with.

Both parties should be happy, right?

I can confirm. I probably wouldn't have gotten a PS5 or PS4 to play these games, but now that it is for PC, I see no reason not to enjoy these critically acclaimed games. Take that for what it's worth. Maybe I would have picked up a PS5 if they were more conveniently available, but I was already battling for a fairly priced NVIDIA 30xx series (and that was already enough of a headache).

I do respect and understand the argument for quality exclusives to sell your CURRENT-gen console and support stable development. But maybe they did the numbers and found out there is little financial loss in releasing exclusives from older console generations? This sucks obviously if you really took the corporation at their word of permanent exclusivity, but come on. What corporations can you fully trust these days?

Sure, there are some people that see older PS4 games coming to PC and think it might just be better to game on PC and wait for those Playstation exclusives to be ported, even if it means waiting a few years after release.

But I think that number could also be offset by PC players who become new fans of Playstation games from the PS4 ports. Maybe someone becomes a fan of the Horizon series from the PC port and they want to play Forbidden West day 1 instead waiting years to try it. Someone who has the money to build a PC may not think a $400 PS5 is a very big purchase to play the Sony games day 1.

Does either scenario really affect PS5 hardware sales in any impactful way? I doubt it. There’s too many people who prefer the convenience of consoles.

If you're fine with waiting that long, you shouldn't buy next gen hardware anyway....

Its interesting that the author of the article sits on two super expensive gaming rigs with 3090 graphics cards. Why would he get any console? No there are no reason. I mean there really aren't any reason to get a console anyway if you have that kind of gaming power all ready. But now we know. A person who plays on PC doesn't find an appeal with consoles. Like it's always been. :)

Yeah? What I posted is a separate article.

PS5 games are coming to PC too. Not on the same day but that doesn’t matter. The point is Sony games are now on PC and there’s less reasons to own a PlayStation console.

People bringing up UC collection is a PS4 game like that matters. You’re also missing what the author is saying. He even says this means there’s a good chance any future Uncharted games will be on PC also.

Sony has already planted the idea in people heads that all PlayStation games will be on PC
My reason to not own a PC is 450 dollar entry level graphics cards. That entire market is becoming more and more boutique as time goes on and I don’t get how it’s growing if the prices that bought you high end GPUs in the past are now just getting you started. A 3060 is more than a PS5 digital and 50 dollars less than a PS5 or SX and you get an entire console. I use to laugh at console gamers that said “the price for a single component is the cost of a whole console!” I mean yes it was always true but it was an exaggeration, now it’s reality and until this Bitcoin shit gets itself under control don’t expect prices to go down

Almost as stupid as the people losing their shit over Sony also releasing their games on pc, crying about it because it takes away their precious list war exclusives.

Actually nah, nowhere near that level of dumb.

More in the link.

I can see more people doing this if Sony keeps bringing more games to PC. I don’t know why Sony thinks they can break away from what made PlayStation so successful and a big brand.

They thought they could sneak Horizon ZD and Days Gone on PC and come up with lies and excuses about why those two came to PC. Every damn interview with Hermen Hulst is a new bullshit explanation about their PC support. First it was just HZD and “not all games are coming to PC.” Now it’s the best experience day one is on PS5 and 2 years later PC PR crap.

They’re not going to get away with releasing their well known bigger games on PC. Sales will be affected.
How is this a bad thing? More people playing their games.

It certainly makes the games feel less special and the whole 'exclusive' marketing has now been turned into a lie.

The feeling of 'being tricked' is not nice. The feeling of being lied to is not pleasant as a customer.

I can see many PS gamers being turned off by this behavior...... I stopped buying all games (exclusives) day 1 due to my disappointment with their current strategy.

Better be ready for the backlash when they do announce the PC ports.... I'm gonna give them a hard time about it. You better believe.
I figure Sony fans would be used to being lied to by now. In all seriousness how is this lying? Is it really that painful for some of you to allow more people to play PlayStation games?

Saying a game is fully exclusive and built around the PlayStation hardware etc etc..... labeling each game 'Only on PlayStation' for years and years, only to then port them.....

It is lying whatever way you cut it. It is also a fundamental misunderstanding of why exclusives exist.... they exist as a facet of competition, to attract people to your platform, much like high performance or services might attract someone.

By putting exclusives on PC, they are basically admitting that there is no competition in the industry, which is arrogant and shortsighted.

Steam Deck is coming out next year and then someone can buy one of those for 500 dollars and play all PC, Xbox, Gamepass and any PS titles all in one place.....
PlayStation should take care of PlayStation...they had a whole company for PC games called Sony Online Entertainment, now called Daybreak games and they spun them off several years ago. They just released Aliens Fireteam Elite.... if they wanted to put games on PC, why didn't they just keep SOE???

Now they have started a mobile initiative too despite Sony music having one of the biggest mobile games on the market...so they will have 2 different mobile game divisions??

It's so unfocused, such a distraction from console gaming and we are feeling that as PlayStation customers.... I can feel that we are not the focus right now.... where are the updates to the UI? Where is the communication?

Why did they buy Nixxes instead of a studio that can actually make a damned game?????

PlayStation as a console is the breadwinner for them...without it they would be nothing, that is a fact and they are not taking care of that business.

Then why dont put the games on xbox too?
Why allow only PC players and not xbox? Oh yeah, Sony want people on its platform. Thats why porting the games to pc is counter productive.
