next gen tech sounds good but has any game used hybrid ray-tracing before?what does it look like ?

It doesnt switch off screenspace solutions when you turn on RT solutions.
And when Screenspace solutions would work best (cost effectively) those take over the job.
So at certain angles youll just get SSR at other angles RT Reflections.

Are they using RT just for reflections or also lighting?
Refl and shadows, no lighting. We need to wait for game release , but right now looking at those req that hybrid RT sounds like much more demanding solution then Nvidias propritery tech as that even has lighting in some games.

RT shadows can be turned off instantly for nice fps gain potentialy with no discernable dif.:

What are you even talking about?

Are you sure it was ray tracing in some games that made people loathe the Series S? I thought it was weaker gpu and ram. In fact, I thought people were even posting quotes from some devs who were questioning the ram.

He's saying that it didn't take an underpowered console to start removing features from games, since PS5 and SX can't do it either.

I personally think it will be implemented later, like they did with Watchdogs Legion.

Turn on FSR (Quality) and you'll probably get 60 FPS.

You'd be able to do even better than that if the game had DLSS, but unfortunately the game is AMD sponsored and only supports FSR at this time...

That chart just highlights the weakness of RDNA2 hardware RT IMO, RTX 3070 in the same tier as 6900 XT in the 1440p60 column with RT on.

Consoles won't be running the game at Ultra, they could probably come close to 4K60 with med. settings, if that chart reflects reality.

What a fucking bullshit, so at 1440P 60fps RT they see the 6900xt equall to RTX 3070 but at 4K 30 RT the 6800XT is equall to the RTX 3080? Don't take this recommendation to serious, they just put some random specs.
I think that chart is wrong because they have a 6900xt for 1440p with RT at 60, but have a normal (non-XT) 6800 for 4k30.

Unless at 4k the game requires more than 8gb of VRAM, meaning you would need a 3080 on the Nvidia front.

What do you all expect from ubisoft? Their last big title was Watch Dogs Legion and at its release it didn’t even have a 60 fps mode. Lazy developers.

This isn't that big of a deal. I don't understand why people expect RT to be featured on console in every game especially large dense open world ones.
Yeah yeah insomniac are wizards but they're an outlier.

Yep, even with decent PC many opt out of ray tracing, it's nice, but not at all necessary.

Past two years, I've only actually played: Metro Exodus, Control, Watch Dogs: Legion and Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing enabled. It's just so expensive in terms of performance. Rather than having RT + DLSS performance mode (1080p) at 4K, without RT I can have 4K with DLSS quality mode (1800p) and I think that is better deal.

We have still long way to before ray tracing is no brainer for most of the games.

I'm pretty excited about playing Far Cry 6. I've had so much dumb fun with this series on PC over the years. Based Ubi for including ray-tracing in the PC version, it'll look great. And the PC version will as usual include that Console Elusive™ super tech called adjustable FOV that actually makes the game playable and not a migraine inducing close-up nightmare.

Next-generation was a mistake. I think both Microsoft and Sony should have held off.
AMD just wasnt ready for Raytracing.
CU count we are actually fine.

PC games can just future proof themselves by throwing everything they have.
Comparing PC max to console will always make you feel bad for no good reason.

Advertising Dynamic Weather as if it was a new next-gen thing when Far Cry 3 had it all the way back on PS3. Classic Ubi.

Its a FarCry game....you really want hybrid RT reflections enough to post that this sucks?
You probably wouldnt even notice the RT in the game if it was active.
What sucks is I have a brand new PS5 and Xbox Series X and it is frustrating that not many games are trying to push the new hardware that hard yet. I couldn't find a 3090 for a decent price btw. I have been very impressed with Insomniac's PS5 games. I really like the Raytracing in those games. It's noticeable to me. Then again I'm a former game developer, so I'm not quite a typical gamer either.

Sony make cringe trainers.
Lmao, talks about Hybrid RT with mid range in mind and then doesn’t make it available for PS5/Xbox? Ubisoft is trash

This Gen aint even started and PC has already eclipsed it and it's only going to get worse. Just like every other generation before it.

Once next gen graphics cards get released, these boxes will be even further in the rear view mirror when it comes to true next gen shit like Ray Tracing.

It was anything that made it not exactly the same as series X - which allegedly made Series S "not next gen" and "false advertising". This included Ray Tracing in many examples.
Claim in their advertising was it would be the same experience as the Series X at a lower rendering resolution.

With this particular game it looks like it should be.. we would have to see I guess.

A little surprised XSX can't handle raytracing in this though. Developers did say, way back that the XSS could hinder cross platform games. Maybe we are seeing that? Be interesting to see how generation develops.

Booooooooooo, give us an RT/30 mode!

Once again, these weak consoles aren't good enough for 4K/60 with all the bells and whistles.

Won't be long at all until we're right back to 30fps.

Did the trailers and such had ray tracing enabled? Because those looked like it came from the xbox 360 era.

This game truly feels as another copy-paste game with only minor changes. Don't fix what isn't broken I guess, but c'mon.

Ray tracing is a marketing tool on consoles the same way 4k has been.

Think the best of this generation is that finally we can play most of games at 60fps..and some at native 4k.
Think of this generation as the most boring generation ever. Nothing really groundbreaking, just PS4 graphics with a pixel boost. YAWN.

Guess the dream of advanced physics/lighting/destructible environments are gone because GOTTA HAVE 60FPS!!! OMG! SO PRETTY FRAMES! MORE FRAAAAAAAAAMMMMEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS

Gimme a break. Let's see what these machines can really do.

Can't wait for cross-gen to be over.

They may have claimed that for the S, but ms and sony also claimed 8k, 4k, and rt, which is randomly applied to some games and not others. So all machines claim things they don't achieve, since the beginning of consoles.

This lack of ray tracing is a performance decision, and it was probably easier on all 3 platforms overall. It's too bad they didn't at least leave the option of lower res with rt, some people enjoy it.

Why is this a fucking thing still? wake up devs, console players want fov slider too especially if your games default fov is low as fuck...
Either they're being lazy or this tells me they're having a hard time locking to 60fps. Increasing fov too much can have an impact on fps, so using a low fov is one way to eek out a few extra frames.

They will just move the goalposts again, somehow the PS5/XSX versions not having Ray Tracing will be down to the XSS🤣

I'd say it's RT that is often a waste of resources. 60fps is kinda important for the gameplay part of the game.

Agree.

I've been playing Far Cry 5 today on my Series X at 60fps and it's so much better.

There's a difference between the term nxt gen and performance boxes, ubisoft clearly went the performance route , i don't think they invested on creating nxt gen assets therefore it's not a 70 $ title by any means.

My point still stands, next-gen is a joke, a complete disappointment for me. I think after this generation I'm done with gaming for good.

Makes sense, these consoles need a mid gen refresh already.
Next-gen isn't even here we are still making last-gen games. It's fucking joke and that shit pisses me off. I should have just quit gaming and said fuck it but I already invested into next-gen. Sorry but next-gen is a joke and I can give a flying fuck if I offend anyone with my words.
