They still haven't really addressed this...

Yeah, I don't like that just because someone chooses to force their lifestyle out into the open, that it needs to be accepted and embraced.

There are a lot of things that people should just keep to themselves.

I don't really have anything against them, because it's not harming anyone, but really, I just can't understand why one would choose to expose that detail of their lives into the public.

It feels wrong to yell out to the world "I'm a sexual deviant! Accept me!". Keep that shit in your bedroom. You can do whatever you want, I just don't want to know about it.

Honestly when I saw that emote, I didn't even know it had anything to do with porn until it was pointed out. It just looked like some random cartoon dog as opposed to being some kind of message about sexual deviance.

TThe fact he's gay, a furry - and has a boyfriend has nothing to do with it.
It was brought up an awful lot for something that has nothing to do with it. Reread the OP: declaring him a gay furry was literally the first paragraph, not explaining simply that he promoted an emote of someone he knew. In fact, I don't know of a recap that didn't fail to bring it up -- and one of the imgur recaps covers at such length it includes cropped porn.

Here is the the completely non-offensive, non-hateful, non-homophobic, non-fursecution joke in it's entirety that led to Horror and other admins banning popular streamers, many of which rely on their streaming income to live.

I wouldn't call it nonoffensive, I think it's uncalled for and crises a line, but it's not directly homophobic or --
fuck, I'm sorry, but I just can't say that other word, it's too bloody stupid.

However, his personal preferences were not brought up when some streamers just had a simple title of remove horror. This title was in no way offensive or even mentioned his personal preferences, only to remove him due to his abuse of power

Solid response from Twitch.

You would just type the emote name (case-sensitive). So I think it would have been NightLight.

It's too bad it's only on reddit and not on their own blogs.

They may have a solid response to redditors, but what about people who don't use reddit and Twitch? What about the general public?

It took them at least 48 hours to come up with response? They knew what was happening but just swept it under the rug until shit boiled over. I'm still not accepting when they can even explain the twitter support crap they tweeted. And with Horror "stepping down" does not do justice for what he has done. He has a history with being a jerk of a admin to many other folks before this event. Regardless if he is a friend or family, he should be gone from Twitch.

This Emmett Shear guy the same dude who called the FGC racist not too long back? Fuck that guy. I mean it's a good response, but fuck him anyway.

I don't disagree, but I also want talking about that. I was talking about how it was specifically mentioned in every single recap or post about the story. If it didn't matter it wouldn't be mentioned, but it was, often.

The response to showing solidarity with the streamer? Sure, agreed. It wasn't brought up then. But when people posted about it, it was, which is my point.

You speaking about furries or the gays? I honestly can't tell because your argument could apply to either the way it's said, and I've heard it often used, almost exactly that way, to argue against holding hands while gay in public, yes, really.

Bravo, and well managed.

Well managed my ass. They're ducking responsibility by using the "volunteers, not staff" bullshit.

If you can't trust your volunteers to represent/manage/whatever your organization to their specific capacity properly, then they should not be in a position of that capacity to begin with.

1: Twitch volunteers should not have been able to cause this bullshit.

2: Twitch is still responsible for the actions of their volunteers. If they wish to mitigate the risk associated with using volunteers, they should limit the capacity of those volunteers.

It was mentioned to provide context as to show how he was abusing his power to make something that should not be availible to the general public since it was regarding a mature theme. It is also used to explain any misunderstanding that may stem from that context

Furries, not LGBT culture itself.

No matter how far strides in LGBT acceptance will go, extreme deviation like "furries" will never be embraced. Fethishism in general. Keep your fetishes to yourself if you can't handle the reaction from other people.

And would anybody have known this detail by simply glancing over the icon? Again, it looks like some dog with a stupid grin on its face, not a penis or whatever people seem to think it is.

The icon is perfectly fine removed from all context, I just think that if Horror cares enough to share it with the world, then he should be thick-skinned enough to handle what people think about it.

I consider myself a fairly accepting person, I have plenty of gay/bisexual friends, and even a trans friend, but I do draw the line at "Furries", you keep that shit to yourself.

You can tell me you're gay, but I really don't want to know that you dress up in costumes to have sex. I just don't care.

If you saw what channel the emote was from, the channel owner was very open about his persona. Then with a simple google search of his user name, or looking at his twitter, it would lead you to the comics in question.

“Twitch Administrators” are volunteer moderators who are not employed by Twitch. The activities depicted here and being falsely attributed to Twitch staff were undertaken by a volunteer admin who has since been removed from the program.

If they're Twitch moderators shouldn't they be called "Twitch Moderators"? Admin implies staff...

Well done, however, this doesn't seem to include the TwitchTVSupport twitter account that also displayed very unprofessional material. Hopefully that management will be resolved as well.

At the same time, they did not post this on official channels. No, they had to post this to reddit. I feel like they are not apologizing to the general public for their actions, only pleasing those that are hoping for an official statement.

Too little too late for Twitch. The apology is a complete 180 to how they were handling the situation before, which leads me to question its sincerity as opposed to the amount of attention the incident's received forcing Twitch's hand.

This black eye is going to take a looooooooong time for people to get over.

Fair enough. I didn't want to kneejerk if I misunderstood you; I've had to put up with hearing that reasoning so often as it applies to LGBT stuff that it acts as a sore spot for me I'm afraid. I could care less about people feeling that way about furries.

They were moderators for more than just one channel

In twitch, a moderator is a user selected by the broadcaster to moderate their channel and only their channel

Exactly my problem with it.

Yeah, it's a really thin line, I don't want to come off as homophobic, but it's almost impossible not to.

I think it's fine that he's gay, no problem whatsoever, I just want to make it clear that I think it's kind of silly that he is so open about the specifics of his relationships.

I don't talk about what my girlfriend and I do in the bedroom, either. Because we do some crazy shit that a lot of people don't really want to know about. It's just the way it is.

So those are Channel Moderators, these are Twitch Moderators.

Yes, but instead of twitch moderators, they called them admins. Why? Who knows.

It only goes to show that they really need to have stricter guidelines as this is all an example of what favoritism gets people - power to control a website and the people.

It's truly sad that Horror has only stepped back but not stepped down. He is still working for Twitch.

Now he will be behind the scenes, probably doing the same thing and still using his power irresponsibly.

I'm curious to know the relationship between the different parties involved. The main twitch employees that we've heard from at this point are the CEO Emmett Shear, an employee named Jasonmz, and another employee named Horror.

Jasonmz claims to be Horror's boss, where does Jasonmz sit in the heirarchy in relation to Mr. Shear?

I imagine myself being in the CEO's position, coming in to work one day and seeing all this shit, and then these two loser rogue employees fucked everything up on their own accord, and then as CEO having to repair the damage. As the CEO, I would genuinely be sorry if this situation had been out of my control, so I can totally see this happening.

At least Emmett appears to be far more mature and professional than Jasonmz and Horror.

I completely agree. There's been a long overdue name change coming to that group. The current front runner is just "Global Moderators."

Is there any chance this event will make this change happen? It seems pretty important due to the old name being so easily misunderstood. When people hear admin they think top brass of a website. Which I have a feeling lead to the whole reddit thing.

Solid response from Twitch. Well, I hope it's over now. People made mistakes and it will be dealt with.

Those things always happen, if you mix private stuff with work stuff. Sucks for Horror, that he isn't the lead admin anymore. I talked a coupple of times with him and he always seemed like a nice guy. Best of luck to him.

Chris92 made a horrible mistake, by speaking for Twitch and censor things. It's something, that you should never do, if you haven't permission to do so. Especially, if you are not working officially for that company. Companies can and will sue you for doing this.

Now going back to watch some streams. :)

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
And it's not just that. The volunteers are taking the brunt of the damage but not Horror. All he's doing is stepping back FROM PUBLIC MODERATING.

He can still do this from behind the scenes.

I personally looked at the response as something they're still looking into so his status may not stay that way, it's just a way to let people cool down a bit knowing he won't be in the public face for a bit.

I agree he should lose all power, though.

However, I believe it's not over. Horror is still with twitch as well as this guy:

Horror has stepped back from public moderating but he can abuse his power in a few days or so with probably a new admin name. The CEO responded only to reddit, not the general public which only goes to show that he is only trying to please those that want to hear official statements.

I also agree with you, but do you know how hard it is to lose an employee who has been with you for probably the longest time? I'm sure he will be behind the scenes for a while and if the CEO is not man enough to let him go, he'll be back and the cycle will repeat.

Is this the same Jason being accused of abusing the @TwitchTVSupport account (if you believe the comments on reddit in response to the official apology)?

I dig where you're coming from; I'm a private person about some things, including that, so I can relate. Thanks for taking the time to explain things. :) Sorry again for snapping.

You'd think that most normal people would stop after getting to the channel instead of actively searching the guy up. From what I've seen people say, I would have thought that the admins was replacing streams with furry porn or something. Having to google this stuff up doesn't exactly feel like the admin was screaming "ACCEPT ME!" or anything.
