Trademark suggests Supermassive is working on a game outside of its Dark Pictures anthology
A trademark for an unannounced game has been discovered
A new Supermassive games trademark has been discovered which potentially indicates that the studio isn’t exclusively working on its Dark Pictures anthology.
Named “The Quarry”, the trademark covers Supergiant to use the title across games software, entertainment services and computer programming services, all but confirming that Supergiant intends to use it for a new game.
As discovered by VGC reader @the_marmolade, the logo and title have registered with EUIPO, the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Earlier this month we reported that Supermassive had registered five new logos and titles for unannounced games in the Dark Pictures series.
The titles were:
- The Dark Pictures: Directive 8020
- The Dark Pictures: The Craven Man
- The Dark Pictures: Intercession
- The Dark Pictures: Winterfold
- The Dark Pictures Presents O Death
Last year, Danish entertainment company Nordisk acquired a 30.7% stake in The Dark Pictures and Until Dawn studio.
Copenhagen, Denmark-based Nordisk Games now holds investments in multiple European games companies including full ownership of Just Cause and Mad Max developer Avalanche Studios, and part-ownership of Call of the Sea publisher Raw Fury and Metroid: Samus Returns studio MercurySteam.
Supermassive Games was the ninth addition to the portfolio and is Nordisk Games’ first investment in the UK.
“We are delighted to have Nordisk Games alongside Supermassive for what we are sure will be very exciting times ahead,” said Supermassive CEO Pete Samuels in a prepared statement at the time of the acquisition.
“From the moment Joe and I met with Martin (Walfisz) and Mikkel (Weider), we were convinced that Nordisk would be great partners for us, and we feel privileged to welcome Nordisk Games’ expertise to our Board.”
