Release info
Developer: Atlus
Publisher: Nintendo
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release date: January 17th 2020

Story & Overwiev
From Wikipedia:
Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is set in modern-day Tokyo, Japan. The story moves between multiple well-known city districts such as Shibuya and Harajuku. In the universe of Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, everyone holds energy called Performa that enables them to pursue their dreams. Performa attracts beings called Mirages, who hail from an alternate dimension called the Idolasphere: while some Mirages harvest Performa for malicious motives, others form alliances with humans to protect the real world. Those who form alliances with friendly Mirages are referred to as Mirage Masters. The main casts are employees and associates of Fortuna Entertainment, a talent agency that secretly acts as a hub and recruiting organization for Mirage Masters.

Characters
Itsuki Aoi:
Itsuki is an eighteen-year-old Japanese high school student that lives in Tokyo. A Mirage Master, he comes to form a bond with the Mirage Chrom and works at Fortuna Entertainment. His birthday is July 30.

Itsuki grew up a normal teenager in Tokyo, Japan. He has been friends with Tsubasa Oribe since childhood and is currently classmates with both her and Touma Akagi. One day he is invited to a live idol audition by Touma where he encounters Tsubasa who was among the entrants. During the audition, the emcee presses Tsubasa about her missing older sister who mysteriously disappeared 5 years prior in a mass disappearance at her show. Suddenly, the audition is attacked by malevolent spirits, one of which overtakes the emcee who proceeds to drag Tsubasa through a portal. Itsuki is miraculously freed by an unknown energy and follows them.

Tsubasa Oribe:
Tsubasa is an eighteen-year-old high school student and a childhood friend of Itsuki Aoi. After awakening as a Mirage Master, she forms a sisterly bond with Caeda. She joins Fortuna Entertainment in the hopes of becoming a singer like her idol Kiria Kurono, and in hopes of finding her missing sister. Her birthday is December 2.

Five years prior to the story, Tsubasa was involved in an incident where her older sister Ayaha Oribe, mysteriously disappeared during a concert she was holding alongside nearly the entire audience and staff on site. Tsubasa was the only survivor. Over the course of five years, Tsubasa developed a dream to become an idol to better understand her sister and perhaps learn the truth behind her mysterious disappearance.

Touma Agaki:
Touma is an eighteen-year-old high school student and a classmate of Itsuki Aoi and Tsubasa Oribe. He's an affiliate of Fortuna Entertainment and a Mirage Master partnered with Cain. His birthday is June 22.

Touma is a hotblooded character and works as a Henshin hero as part of a stage show. He appears to be a slacker, but actually goes out and does things first. He is steadfastly loyal to his fellow Mirage Masters and works hard in order to achieve his dreams.

Kiria Kurono:
iria is a famous twenty-one year old Idol Singer who receives a lot of support from young people, her stage name is KIRIA. She is a Mirage Master highly skilled in battle and partnered with Tharja. Her birthday is July 12. She’s also referred to as the “cool beauty,” but not many people know her personally and her private life is a secret. She’s a senior to Itsuki and the others, often aiding them.

Eleonora Yumizuru:
Eleonora is a seventeen-year-old, half-Japanese half-Scandinavian girl who aims to be a star in Hollywood. She is a young up and coming actress as well as a Mirage Master. Her birthday is January 29. Eleonora joins the party when the others go to rescue Barry Goodman, surprising them when she reveals she already has a Mirage Partner.

Mamori Minamoto:
Mamori is an elementary-school age girl and entertainer that works at Fortuna Entertainment. She is also a Mirage Master, and her Mirage partner is Draug. She is currently the star of a children's television program called Microwavin' with Mamorin. Her birthday is August 11.

Yashiro Tsurugi:
Yashiro is a nineteen-year-old idol, like Kiria, and a Mirage Master. His Mirage partner is Navarre. His hit single is called "Black Rain", the theme song to his high rated show, "Labyrinth of Love". He appears to have some connection to the Mass Disappearance from five years ago in which both the performers and actors on stage vanished into thin air, including his father and Tsubasa Oribe's sister. His birthday is February 10.

What's new?
The game will receive various new features and upgrades over the original version, including a brand new song, new combat techniques, and other new gameplay features and enhancements.

Some of the new features introduced in Encore include:
  • The ability to toggle on Quick Sessions, auto-progressing Session combos and speeding up combat.
  • The ability to swap Itsuki out of the active party in a New Game Plus.

I have been asking to get this game on Switch ever since system first announced. I loved the game when it originally came out on WiiU.

I want to play this game so much, but the censorship pisses me off so much that I don't wanna support it :(
You do what you have to, but this game was special case, I don’t think we gonna see censorship like this in any other Atlus and Nintendo games.

Im fine with most of the cosmetic changes, but things like removing the harmless TV show hotsprings dlc is incredibly, incredibly dumb

there is worse 'fanservice'on their mainline FE games

This one > Tree Houses

It even has better graphics 🤭
??? Three Houses is full on FE I don't know how that makes TMS "better" than Three Houses? TMS is much more Atlus RPG rather than being FE.

That is probably the worst, but I'm also just a fan of Japanese culture and the idol scene, so to know that they censored all the bikini stuff and change that whole dungeon also pisses me off. I like girls in hot outfits, ain't gonna deny that, and knowing that they censored that shit just annoys me.

I did pick up a copy today, but only because it was the last copy gamestop had...I might still return it, I haven't decided yet.

This re-release was a chance for them to fix the mistake of censoring this game on Wii U, but instead they double downed on it, and that just frustrates me more.

I have my copy, and the new CD soundtrack too. Gonna be a great weekend revisiting my favorite game of the last decade. As for the censorship especially for people like me in Japan, it sucks. I’ve said it over and over again since October’s confirmation. I hope the reaction Japanese gamers gave Nintendo will make them think twice trying this again. It will be weird playing this version thats different from what I originally played, but I’m going to give it a go and see how it turned out.

I’m just so happy the series is back. It was the one Wii U title that, in my opinion, most deserved a second chance on the switch. It’s sad it’s not the Japanese version, but who knows, maybe one day we can get a “directors cut” dlc, if we were lucky.

You live in Japan, huh? Lucky. Keep dreaming someday I'll get there. Are you from there, or did you move? Sorry if that's prying too much, always looking to meet people who live there as a friend if you ever wanna chat sometime.

Yeah I live in Japan and have been here for a while. Very nice place. Good benefits too in the case of #FE. I got to go to the last concert they did which was fantastic. Put in an application for he ticket lottery for the next #FE concert. Hope I get to go to that one too. I really want to hear what the voice actors think about the game coming back and all. They had said in the past they wanted to continue the series if possible. Glad in some way its happening, even if its a little flawed with the changes.

Is it possible to play the uncensored version in english on a wii u ?
I don’t think so, but would you even play this game if you could? I would imagine you of all people would have zero interest in this type of game.

I personally love this game but you consider games like XC2 and Three Houses as “weeb” games and I would imagine just turn you off completely.

From what I understand, yes, it is totally possible with mods to play the game on uncensored on Wii U. I didn't feel like messing with it when I had a Wii U because you had to use a specific launcher.
Thanks i will do some research into this.
The wii u version is dirt cheap atm 👍

As long as you keep buying the game they won't care.

and if we don’t buy the game they will just think we don’t care about the series at all and it was a waste to try. I wish voting with your wallet worked but in the gaming world it doesn’t always. They never look at the real reasons why. But the message was already sent here in Japan, with the refunds they had to give and the fact the original game had a bump up in sales cause of it. Sadly in the end it’s a no win scenario for everyone

What series? This is a one off game.

But you just said...hmmmmm. I don't know what to tell you.

It is a win for them if it sells ok-ish seeing how it was a quick port.

I tend to disagree with this notion, especially from big companies like Nintendo. Businesses often realize how their decisions impacted sales, but outside of needing to apologize for defective products, they're usually unwillingly to openly accept blame. The test is how future products are handled, including taking another stab at a property in which there's actual faith.

With Tokyo Mirage, choosing the international version of the game to release worldwide seems inline with what (at least from my view) comes across as a low-effort port.

You’re right it is a one off, but like I said there has been comments, particularly the case at the concerts (which I can vouch for a I was there) they did that there was hope for a sequel and all perhaps one day. Sure the chances of that are low, but doing this rerelease gives that hope more of a chance. Let’s be honest, #fe was very much a wanted switch port, but no one thought it would come. And since that’s happened, anything is possible .

as for my comment about voting with your wallet, the reason I say it doesn’t always matter is that like I said, Nintendo will just think no one cares about this game period not because of the censorship. if I had confidence that Nintendo would release the original version if I didn’t buy this game I would have no hesitation in passing on it. But as I don’t have that confidence I decided as well as many others did by trying other methods, outside of the preorder stuff as well. Will it work, doubtful, but who knows. I’m still hoping for a surprise from Nintendo Japan at least. They know fans here want the original content, and they could give it to us in someway. But if this series can continue, one I want to, I’m going to still support it while using other means to get the message out.

Just wait until you see Mamorin enter a battle and summon Draug!

She's a cute little girl but her mirage is a heavily armoured knight. She nearly loses her balance getting her axe ready for battle. Very funny and cute.

It also damn good game and even say if I do "boycott" the game its not like they gonna suddenly patch uncensored version, they just gonna let it die out because they would just take it as no one care about this game.

Nintendo censors this mild stuff, but is okay with this being on Switch:
Okay Bowser.
I said this before, this game seem to be special case. Both Xenoblade 2 from Nintendo and Catherine Full Body from Atlus came out after TMS#FE (WiiU) and neither of them got censored.

I don’t think we ever gonna see any game from both Nintendo and Atlus that would get censored like TMS#FE was.

What strange about TMS censorship is even censored version we have characters wearing cloths like this....
latest

That don’t get censored but less revealing cloth like this....

DQGnodOVoAAyTri.jpg

does get censored. There was no logic this censorship.

Has Atlus even censored any of their games before?

The one weird thing I can remember them doing long ago was region-locking Persona 4 Arena on the PS3, which was a first on the system.

Reached Chapter 3. I had a glimpse at the new dungeon.

Not too hot. It was a small palace where I could pick costumes that were add-ons on Wii U, as well as the Joker costume. Also, I got an item allowing Tiki to intervene once in a session, which makes things even easier.

The dungeon had weak enemies I already fought before, nothing new to see.

This was only the first part of it, but it looks exactly as disappointing as expected.

Best new thing for the game is how much you can speed it up. Loadings are short, sessions can be shortened as well, and you can skip text and scenes (this was already possible though). I find that the gamepad is poorly integrated, you can feel that there is very little money put behind this port.

well i just got the wii u version for a tenner today,
i hope the wii u pad is worth it.
and i am trying to install this uncensored version

After discovering the whole story, I can't blame Nintendo for this censorship. This is obviously done by tree house, and I hope Nintendo gave them a beating for it.

I played with the wiiU pad on a table and the pro controller. The pad is only use for some text messaging, nothing important for the gameplay.

i noticed just beat the prologue the other night.
i do love the fact i can enemy stats and map info on the gamepad tho.

i think this game looks better then persona 5
and so far i prefer this battle system.

damn, this game sucks QOL wise, the UI felt slow, coming from something like xenoblade 2 and DQ XI. I also died fighting savage monster without saving, losing 2 hours of my playtime
you could call this a half assed port/remaster

also playing this game hurts my heart, because I have a hopeless crush with a japanese right now, and the whole japanese settings remind me of that person :'(

edit: some innapropriate words
