Now I am not a prolific poster here or anything but I am for sure a habitual reaction giver.

I hate blatant, agenda pushing sjw stuff and it shows in my positive reactions to any post that criticizes such.

Now:

1. If you dislike sjw pushing in games
2. You bought TLoU2 full price, finished it and generally positive about the overall experience
3. You would recommend the game to a guy like me

May I hear your reasoning?

Just to be clear, I will play it eventually at no more than $15 price on a PS5. I am just wondering if there are enough reasons to buy now at full price and play it now on my PS4.

Feel free to add story spoilers, I play TLoU mainly for the survival gameplay so I don't mind knowing the story in advance.

Thank you!

I see you have an Aloy avatar. I say that HZD was probably more woke and I love that game. Even RDR2 was more woke. That game actually rewarded you for killing racists. If you don't consider the existence of gay and strong woman characters to be an agenda then TLOU2 should not offend you at all.

I don't mind gay characters in fiction. I like that the strong woman character in TLoU2 is actually very muscular (I am guessing by some spoilers I heard). Thank you for your input.

RDR2 more woke than TLOU2 because you can kill klansmans?

I don’t think you fully understand what woke means. That’s like saying Medal Of Honor is woke because you kill nazis.

You are rewarded for killing racists
You are rewarded for killing an ex slave catcher and it is blatantly against racism
You have a mission where you help out feminists
It address the plight of Native Americans

I have no issue with any of this but it addresses multiple political themes.

The story definitely has some misgivings and I have issue with them, but I will say that overall, I really enjoyed it and WOULD recommend people play it. The "SJW" aspects that people like to harp on are their but they don't really come across to me as pushing an agenda, just that strong(literally strongwoman) females are pushed front and center.

Story issues aside, and again when one of your biggest strengths in the previous games IS story, that it dropping the ball like this feels like a bigger misgiving than it actually is. The gameplay is very fun, crawling through the grass, scrounging for items, trying to outsmart the enemies, the graphics, the music, the motherfucking ANIMATIONS are all so well done that I STILL think people should play this even if they take umbrage with the story like I did.

I don't think it's the 10/10 Media darling that most outlets are giving it, but I DO think it's a very solid 8.5 or so. It does a lot of things well, and being in such a beautifully rendered and fairly realistic world is breathtaking.

I'd say at a minimum rent it for a week if you can, it's worth playing at least so you can have a full perspective of the conversation going.

Again, you kill klansmans, you help some women not to be killed just for demanding to vote and you help a particular indian chief.

I agree but in TLOU2 the protagonist is simply in a gay relationship that would be considered completely standard if she were heterosexual and the some of the women are muscular.

After playing the game from start to finish I can say that there is no agenda nor SJW tried to be pushed down our throats, it is the continuation of a beloved story where one of the main characters is gay and the game portrays couple dynamics that I can not relate fully since i am not gay, but only to some extent, there are parallelisms with straight relationships, after that part of the game is cleared the full story is revealed and the following 2 thirds of the game are awesome! Some people may dislike the story for whatever reasons, but as a game is a masterpiece, there are so many cool moments during gameplay that makes you want complete the game several times. I will start my second play through and will take my time to enjoy the journey again. I felt honestly sad at the end of the game and the acting on the game is fucking awesome.

The "antogonist" is not trans is just a buff woman, not at the same level as a female body builder, she is just muscular.

There are things that will certainly polarize fans of the first game. I can't deny that but woke propaganda it is not.

That's not woke. The difference is that all those themes are based on past/historical events. Generally, those themes are no longer so relevant today. And the game isn't trying to convince you of any political ideology.

The themes in TLOS2 are based on today's real world politics, with the purpose of driving a political ideology.

Massive difference.

Depends on what you call “SJW pushing” and your tolerance for it.

To me, I’d say “pushing an SJW agenda” would be portraying minorities as “right” and in some way superior to “traditional” conventions.

As an example, portraying a lesbian character as inherently more gifted, valuable or balanced than let’s say a white heterosexual male.

TLOU2 has nothing like that. In fact the standard white males who have developed characters - Joel, Tommy, some others - are all portrayed as well balanced, humanitarian and ultimately admirable men. In fact pretty much all the men in the main game who aren’t generic “baddies” are portrayed as good guys.

It’s almost distracting that there aren’t any evil white or even Asian male characters - they are all portrayed as wholesome, upstanding, brave and stoic.

So yeah. Up to you what you think about that. To me if there’s any agenda being pushed it’s not that “alternate lifestyles” are in anyway preferential or normalised given that there isn’t a profusion of homosexual characters and the few (2) there are aren’t exhibiting good character traits.

There is a profusion of female NPCs though - and mostly they're all about killing each other. I felt a little churlish at the amount of women I was killing - had I been playing as a male character I would have felt uncomfortable. Since I played as a female - no worries

There are some elements of “home life” in a non traditional family sense at points.

Very little really but it’s there.

And that’s it. If you liked the TLOU1 gameplay, I’d say there’s no reason you will dislike this game. The tweaks are subtle but I think it plays well.

But if you really don’t care about story and it’s all about gameplay, maybe you’d have more fun with a proper sandbox game like days gone.

Lol. Are you trolling?

A) It's a completely new story. The only thing that continues from the first game is that you follow Ellie. But even she's a completely different character now.
The first game was about the relationship between Joel and Ellie. The continuation of this is certainly not the main narrative of the second game. Not by a long shot.

B) The game was specifically made for SJW types. The whole game is FULL of SJW politics. If you can't see it then you either enjoy that shit, which it sounds like you do, or you are blind and have no idea what the typical SJW ideology is.

Lets see how many of the woke, SJW ideology boxes it ticks:

- Women good, men bad.
- Straight, white men are over represented.
- Women are strong
- Diverse representation is a must. Game has blacks, Hispanic, Asian, white, trans, lesbians, etc., etc.
- Trans people are suppressed and discriminated on
- Gays are marginalised by bigots in the world
- Trans and gay people are normal and should be supported.
- Those who disagree must be punished
- Lesbian/gay relationships are normal and need to be portrayed as such.
Plus more. These are the main obvious ones.

The game is riddled with this crap.

OP, if you genuinely don't like SJW pandering, you WILL NOT enjoy this game. Skip it.

The dance scene involves an irritated person who doesn't like Ellie and Dina kissing. It's a stodgy old white guy.

When there's discrimination, it's always white people being the bums. No such thing as minorities being discriminatory because if you do that, they might go hyperspastic and criticize the writers. Make it a white guy and it's smooth sailing.

In other words like 99% of media out there. No balls to call out minorities can be prejudice too.

10 hours into the game, besides me not liking the look of Abby very much, the game is dope.. Story is not as great as the original but a sequel of anything is hard to do anyway. If you like games and you like this type of game, you are going to like it. The situation has been take out of context and out of control.

It's getting tiring with all the hate just because.. They've pushed female leads, some are gay, that's it. People need to get a life. That poster above 'Falcs' is full of it.. He is seeing what he wants to see. I hate SJW shit and agenda pushing but as I said it's been blown out of proportion by hateful people like 'Falcs' out of spite.

It's a fucking video game, if people don't like it they don't need to play it or just say not my thing. All of a sudden we have to hear everyone elses beliefs like they are the second coming of Jesus Christ and the only ones who matter in this world.

The game was made for people that are not obtuse and don't have a narrow view of the world and are open to accept and tolerate that different ways of life and express love exist. There is no pandering of anything.

- Women good, men bad. I did not perceive that at all.
- Straight, white men are over represented. I never felt that.
- Women are strong They are strong in real world.
- Diverse representation is a must. Game has blacks, Hispanic, Asian, white, trans, lesbians, etc., etc. The world we all live is full of different races, ways of life.
- Trans people are suppressed and discriminated on. Yes, they are, and we should try to erradicate that.
- Gays are marginalised by bigots in the world. Yes, they are, hard fact of the world we live in.
- Trans and gay people are normal and should be supported. They should not be supported? Ridiculous
- Those who disagree must be punished This applies to any person that is different from what is considered normal, they are treated differently and that sucks.
- Lesbian/gay relationships are normal and need to be portrayed as such. They are not normal? what is normal?
Plus more. These are the main obvious ones.

The game is riddled with this crap.

The game is super fun to play, if you are straight you may not relate with the gay dynamics, which are fairly similar to straight relationships, same couples' problems, but the rest of the game story wise is good. If you don't like the story, you can skip the cutscenes and play the game and it will surely impress you. Fun to play challenging, great weapons, great soundtrack, top notch visuals.

Im not mad cause all the tackled agenda things are so obvious, but im disappointed with what they did with the characters and setting. The original is so perfect and the tone is great. The world was believable. This...no sir. I havent played it but saw a couple of the memes and cut scenes and I think they ruined the characters. I will play it eventually, but I dont see myself rewarding ND with over $20 for this game.

Thank you!

Well I finished the game today (survivor difficulty but resources down tweaked to moderate as it's unrealistic to kill 5-6 armed enemies and never receive one bullet of any kind!).

Ellie isn't 100% lesbian, nor Dina if you're into those specific spoilers. And the community are devided about their kiss in the bar which Ellie wasn't in a love story with here and Dina has just broke up with her boyfriend few days before that.

That muscular girl is actually straight. There is a little boy who probably gay? But he contiues to be a boy although his previous cult want him to be a wife of someone!

It's a wonderful game, and I can't see any game (Cyberpunk 2077, GoT) getting the GOTY out if it. Maybe the new Spider-man? I still doubt it, the storry telling is in Kojima-level without his the awkward moments. I simply would say that the story is the critical strength of the game, gameplay and other aspects are wonderful indeed.

Your responses and the fact you can't see the insanely obvious points that are right in your face clearly show you are the type of person this game was made for. Congratulations.

I'm not saying that I disagree with those points. Of course gay people are normal. Yes there are strong women in the world. Etc. Etc.
But I don't need to have these points shoved in my face. I see it in real life already.
I play games to escape real life, not to be told what is politically correct.

I am not gonna argue here, i do not feel the game tells us what is politically correct and how we should behave or act upon discrimination at all and I will leave it at that. You have your POV and I have mine I agree to disagree with you.

Thank you all! I couldn't reply to each thoughtful comments individually but rest assured I read and appreciate them all.

Since a game is meant to be played and an average/low-tier story never stopped me from enjoying a game with mechanics that cater to my taste, I am going to give TLoU2 a fair chance. I'll just skip the cutscenes if I want to.

I don't like Druckman's personal politics, but the love and care that ND put into this game is undeniable. Those guys and gals deserve the accolades despite of Druckman.

Again, thank you for all the responses. Love y'all : )

Never skip a cutscene! It's a crime :messenger_tears_of_joy: I'm trying so hard not to spoil major things, but I think you'll love it and you'll be surprised about all the hate against it. Nothing is forced at all, all who says so is bullshitting and didn't play/finish the game.

I'd take TLOU2 any day, those over-sexualized games never had any issues for those basement masturbators:

Tom Raider, although you can give it a pass

Nier Automata, WTF?

Aloy is well dressed, and a convincing female character

Same goes for Ellie

Yes there are semi-sexual moments in TLOU2, and the true sexual moment is actually heterosexual.

Trust me, I don't like playing as a female, but never felt good about it as Aloy on HZD, somehow Chloe Frazer on Uncharted: lost Legacy, and Ellie on TLOU2. I usually hate playing as a female protagonist because they're usually over-sexualized, not I don't like sexy females, but I follow the saying "don't shit where you eat."

If you give me a convincing female protagonist, I have no problem with it. I'm a straight man, and I don't agree with lesbians/gays and the whole LGBT but would treat them respectfully nonetheless, just to make my stance clear. Also I laugh at SJW's as well, but finished the whole game and didn't have a serious "woke" moment.

It's garbage, the story makes absolutely no sense, pretty much all the new characters are garbage, they ruined the ones from TLoU 1, the pacing it's absolutely horrible, makes no sense that much of the history is told in flashbacks, like you kill a literally who and then hours later they try to care about them and fail completely. Then you have to play half a game as Abby, why I don't know it just makes you her even more, maybe that was the point but it's so fucking damn boring.

Character development is either non-existent or nonsensical, the plot it's just a bunch of deux machina, plotholes everywhere, complete lack of chemistry between characters like Ellie and Dina which you should care about but you don't because the writing is awful, oh and the game is full of cringe at every corner.

The gameplay is solid but not any better than 1, the graphics are good but not really impressive, it has tons of bugs.

If the history was at least decent I would give it a 6 but it's so fucking horrible that I would give the game a 3 at best.

P.S.: One thing I really hate it's they never explain where Abby got the roids.

I've always liked Elly. In the first game when you get to control her, that was one of my favorite parts.

So I see you and I are pretty similar in general worldview as well!

Thank you. I am ambivalent to the story, I see equal pros and cons from both sides.

The mechanics of TLoU series, with all its flaws and jank is something that I really enjoy. And this is what tips me over to giving it a go.

Why would they when most muscular males are actually on roids themselves? Like many Hollywood and games protagonists? They call the meds that improves her character/perks as "supplements", just like those buffed guys on roids tend to call them.

There are some muscular females as well, with roids as well like the rest of the males. Natural bodybuilders are pretty rare, as you can have decently muscled was naturally but takes long time and great genetics.

so i completed the game as well.....not sure what you're getting at.

Biggest piece of advice, take your time with the game, don't rush it - let the relationships and the in game conversations run their course. You really get drawn in and feel a connection with the characters - they all have their ambitions and roles and personalities.

If people like the guy above say otherwise, either they have short attention spans or lack any empathy at all.

Don't take this guys advice, he has an agenda against the game for no reason at all.

Please play this game, it's honestly next level in terms of production, animation, story, fluid gameplay etc.

I loved it, don't let others make your decision for you :)

So he has an agenda because he doesn't like the game?

What kind of logic is this.

This right here. I totally understand when a woke trash movie like Charlie's Angels reboot crash and burn. It was all pandering with zero craftmanship. The amount of tech mastery visible in TLoU2 clips I've seen is what convinced me despite the story (if it does indeed suck).

By the way, this here is actual gameplay, not pre-rendered bullshit: (timestamped)

But I think it's in easy/moderate mode. In survivor difficulty the other enemy doesn't wait for you, and you don't get the indicator of threat only that creepy sound! Wonderful animations and gameplay!

Speaking of gameplay, how does the game handle multiple combatants attacking you simultaneously? Does the animation system address this? Or is it like an old karate flick where opponents take turns?

Are you a man, or woman, gay/straight. Nothing wrong with attractive ladies. Why do people like you deny their agency. They exist just as much as plain Jane ellie.

If your a straight woman do you feel insecure with attractive ladies, I think. The neir lady's ass scene is hot. I think I will get that game as I was on the fence.

If you are a man why don't you like attractive ladies?

If you are gay man, why would it matter and aren't many gay men into fashion and models, you would think they would like attractive ladies.

If you are gay woman I would think you would like attractive ladies.

The only way I think people get into thr mindset of anti attractive ladies if they feel insecure with their looks, which I doubt is it, or they have been indoctrinated by intersectional post modern feminism ala Sarkeesian Inc. And resetera.

I have no problem with ellie or alloy btw... I do have a problem with people trying to erase attractive females. You have no right to try to remove or change Lara Croft, Sophie Cassandra, ivy cassi, cydni from ff15, quiet from mgs5, neir atomita lady, etc...

People like me love attractive and curvy women characters. Especially since many aren't being shown in movies or other media because people trying to erase their existence.

You don't see the same response to overly muscalr dudes. I don't look like the gears of War dudes but I'm not trying to censor them. Most men look nothing like video game characters or movie stars etc..

Shit people already ruined comics. There is room for both, plain and sexy. Just like there are room for both.

I never asked for ellie to be sexy. I didn't care as the character was portrayed as a kid and then a teen, young adult. That's fine. Got no problem with that. Difference is Lara croft was always a sexy sophisticated intelligent women who knows how to kick ass and do it with style and grace. You don't see her wearing a pussy hat reeeeing and throwing tantrums about invisible boogie man - the patriarchy. Nah she spent her youth training for what she does. She is strong and sexy and smart at the same time, not to push an agenda but because that was her characters fleshed out backstory. People loved it in the 90s why hate on it now?

As for other games let them portray sexy big boobed and curvy ass women. They exist too. I love playing those characters in a fighting game.

You just run, they'll fuck you up, only do one hit then hit the other guy. If you overdo one enemy you'll get attacked by the second/other ones. If you have enough bullets you can run and shot the infected, but you should evade and run if it's more than one enemy on survivor mode or take the risks and stand your ground and try to one hit one at a time. It's not like Days Gone where you can kill large hordes with lots of ammunition.

Thanks for contributing to the thread, very helpful.

Anyone who expresses extreme hate, like saying it's "garbage" is usually pushing an agenda - mostly because they're emotional about it for no reason when its just a game.

You can have a differing opinion, of course, but to say "character development is either non-existent or nonsensical " is an absolute lie. i'll use Ellie as an example to avoid spoilers but she def developed throughout the plot, you just have to pay attention - there's a reason she does what she does.

Not sure what you're trying to say here anyway, but I'm a straight man and I don't support LGBT nor they affect my life to care much about them. Movies like the latest Ghost Busters and Captain Marvel are shit because agendas are being forced, TLOU2 has the story tightly written and it doesn't circulates about lesbians/LGBT. I love sexy females, and I find Ellie sexy, she just doesn't need to dress like a stripper to be so. I love The Witcher 3, and you know what's going on in that game as well. You just don't need it to be on your face all the time, and if you like it that way then maybe you need to get laid to ease up the steam. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

By the way, I like them thicc (in reality).:lollipop_wink_tongue:

I am a straight man and I support gays as much as I support any other relationships. I know many straight couples who are way more dysfunctional than most gays.

Honestly I don’t feel like it’s “SJW agenda pushing” - yes there is a trans character (no not Abby) yes Ellie is a lesbian, but the whole narrative can be boiled down in its essence to “both sides”. That’s legit the entire thing. Which is not something most hardcore SJW types are into (nor anti-sjw types I assume). That is the narrative. Is it as good or impactful as the first? No. Has pacing issues, writing issues, little convoluted, could’ve been cut down a bit - but ultimately the story is serviceable enough that it’s still better than many video game stories. Everything else, the gameplay, graphics etc are better than the first.
