This isn't for you "gold chain" gafffers who has every console and PC with a gif Folder on deck (just me? lol )

Exclusive games, call it old fashion, and whether you want to admit it or not, are what console gaming is all about in which having a game, software, tailored to the console hardware.

Sure, in the past, games came out later on other platforms, but thanks to companies like Microsoft, which have polarized us into believing certain titles today are "must-have now" or "first on", make something out of nothing which has little to no value once said game comes out on another platform. (not even DLC is remotely exclusive anymore)

So to those who have a single platform, are games announced as a timed exclusive great time to buy a new console just to play a game you would eventually get on your existing platform?

Timed exclusive is a ridiculous term. After that timeframe is up it is not exclusive...therefore it never was and only serves to entice consumers to buy a console for a game they want to play now.

It's why you are better off sticking to PC and one other console that provides games you can't get anywhere else.

Gets even worse with the Epic games store deals where games are specific to their launcher for a year and then is widely available to other avenues on the PC instead of just releasing on PC period.

I find it rather obnoxious.

God no.

Although it does make it much easier to wait until after the eventual launch, on the platform I own, for a good sale.

If I had to wait 12 months already, I may as well wait another 3 for it to be half the price.

Timed exclusives and timed content rubs me the wrong way and instead of buying on timed exclusive platform, it instead encourages me to either not buy the game at all, or to wait till it's out on a different platform out of spite.

I contempt timed exclusives. If i really want to have a specific game, i borrow the console from a friend or buy second hand console + game and immediately resell it so they don't make money with me.

i feel timed exclusives are less about selling consoles and more about selling the game on your platform over the other, remember a lot of people will get more than one console, its only the hardcore fan girls on gaf that would rather lay down in front of a train than dare contemplate buying the rival console.

Personally, I despise timed console exclusives because in the end, it will still be a multi-platform game so I see it as a total and complete waste of money for Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo. I would prefer to see that money be towards acquisitions, already owned studio expansion or to pay extra money to make the game fully exclusive.

With Xbox Series X as my primary gaming console, the only timed console exclusive I have any interest in is Kena: The Bridge of Spirits and I will wait until it releases on Xbox before playing it even if I have a PlayStation 5 by then. Mainly because I prefer to wait and see how the game ends up being and if it ends up on Game Pass because I would much rather pay a $10 monthly rental for the game instead of buying it for $40.

The only other timed console exclusive im interested in is Godfall and considering that it's nowhere near worth $70, I will wait and see if it goes in Game Pass this year when it releases on Xbox Series X. If it doesn't, then it's a skip for me.

Luckily for me, majority of the timed console exclusives that I want to play are on Xbox Series X first (The Ascent, Crossfire X campaign and Bright Memory Infinite) where as only Kena interests me on the PlayStation 5 side.

I will be buying PlayStation 5 when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart releases in the spring/summer but would most likely wait on Kena especially since it's a digital only title and I prefer all my digital purchases to be on Xbox Series X since it's my primary gaming console for this generation.

Damn, how could I forget about FFVII. I bought a Playstation the day that game dropped, lmao I found one at Sears of all places and wrote a check for it.

While it was eventually ported to a billion other platforms, Playstation was the only place to play it for quite a long time iirc.

Nope.

I can wait. There are plenty of games out there. Timed exclusive for me means = wait for it to inevitably hit game pass because there is no way I am playing your piece of shit game otherwise.

Depends on the game. If GTA6 is a timed exclusive for 1 year... yea im not waiting a year to play that game. But if its a game like Deathloop, yea ill wait until it comes to my console

I think timely exclusives are more to build up a positive image of "the place to be" around a given console and to influence first time buyers decision beteween similar console oprtions.

Is this thread in response to Stalker 2 being an Series S/X exclusive? To answer the op my answer is no , all the console will have some sort of exclusive titles. I usually own both Xbox and Sony machines every generation. I think timed exclusive are a stupid idea anyways.

For platform holders they are a waste of money IMO.

I'd never buy a console for a timed exclusive.Even for 10 or 20 timed exclusives.I just don't give a fuck. I can wait to play it on my platform of choice and most likely it will come with all the dlcs and patches so that makes it even more easier to wait.

I will buy a console for first party games, but not timed exclusives. I don't really want to reward any publisher for timed exclusivity.....

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
I was angry as hell when Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced as a timed exclusive for Xbox. But I never entertained the thought of ever buying an Xbox so I could play it a year earlier. I waited it out. It's not like I didn't have anything else to play on the PS4 back then. In fact, it only made me dislike Xbox more at the time. So it had the reverse effect.

No I'm pretty sure timed exclusives were exclusives at a point in time

Not at all.....I only play single player games these days so I don't need to play them early after release......if all those Bethesda games ended up being 1/2 year timed exclusives then I'll just wait to play them....if they are full exclusives I'll be buying an Xbox,no question.

No, I'll just wait, there are enough games to play. And after a year most of the time the devs add more content and the game is properly patched. Still sucks most of the time, but no way I'm buyin a console I don't really want because of crap like this.

Depends on the game(s).

For example, Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop do not add any extra allure whatsoever for me to get a PS5 just yet.

Nope.

Xbox did it with Tomb Raider and even after eventually getting an Xbox I just skipped the games altogether lol.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
With the launch quality of releases these days, i don’t mind. I am waiting on FFVII for the XSX. I know it will come and will most likely it will have better textures.

I would never wait to play FF7:Remake
I do whatever is necessary to get a game I really care about day 1. If I aren't excited enough to play it day 1 I wouldn't buy a console for it even if it were a full exclusive.

Can he swing from a thread? Take a look overhead / Hey, there, there goes the Spider-Man
Depends on the game. I got destiny on PS4 solely for the timed stuff. Tomb Raider on Xbox was another big one. Dunno if it would make me buy a console that I didnt have (hell full exclusives seldom do that for me too) but definitely sways what platform I’ll buy it for.

My tears. Exclusive to gamepass. Forever.
Depends on what game we're talking about. It's all about how much you're excited to play a game day one.

No.

I waited for Rise of the Tomb Raider. One of my fav game series.

It's not that serious for me. I can wait.

I have usually have all consoles by a couple of years into the generation, and I still avoid or wait for a deep sale on most timed exclusives.

Most exclusivity deals are shady. There's rarely transparency about the precise terms of the offer.

It's funny how loudly people cry about Epic exclusives. When Sony or Microsoft pays for an exclusive, you can't play it on any other device.
In contrast, AFAIK Epic has never blocked any console release of a game.

Nope. I can either wait for a PC version to release or wait until emulation technology is advanced enough to play it.
