The Xbox Live Gold paywall for F2P online games, does not negatively effect the Xbox userbase of those games

From the recent court documents released in the Epic vs Apple court case.
The biggest F2P online online game out in the west:

unknown.png

Epic has a monthly active Playerbase on Xbox One of 1.7m
Epic has a monthly active Playerbase on PS4 of 1.85m

The current installbase in the US
PS4 is above 34m
Xbox One is above 29m

So Xbox One has still slightly more monthly Fortnite players per Console sold.

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
The consoles have "similar" install bases and users on said platforms both pay for "online gaming" so yeah the most popular MP games will have similar numbers F2P or otherwise.
The vast majority of game time on XB/PS will actually be the same.

I know people IRL who didnt know you dont need PS+ for F2P titles.
And those that did still payed for PS+ cuz FIFA/Madden/NBA.

Numbers are how you'd expect. Anytime you have a release that is more dominant in the West, Xbox will at first appear to have a much higher attach rate than PS. That's because people think of the WW discrepancy in units sold, but when looking at just the West, console units sold aren't that out of line so you get similar numbers. A game that is most popular in Europe would skew much more towards PS.

It’s very interesting data, good find OP!

- iOS has more players than even PS4, but their revenue and play time is insignificant. Makes you actually wonder why Epic picked a fight with Apple and not MS or Sony;
- Compared to the install base, Fortnite is barely played on PC at this point;
- Switch is also trailing behind, again considering the install base but wow imagine playing 4h per week on the awful Switch version.
Wouldn't really say that people who play games on game pass have any kind of standards at all.
Threadshitters like you are not worthy of having a Kiryu avatar.

I'll admit, I figured there would be a lot more Fortnite players on PS4 because of the free online for free games. I guess that was never important to begin with. 🤷‍♂️

Let me guess: Only people that "play" Netflix 3rd person adventures have high standards?
This is kind of funny given how MS pushed for a Netflix like service in games as if their life depended on it.... And the state of their output as a publisher, no wonder they focus on "services" and recurring revenues to milk their willing customers.

In the mean we have tons of games that are actually worth our time on PlayStation.

That doesn't prove the paywall isn't doing anything, I think most people agree the average Xbox gamer is more online orientated than the average PS gamer. You'd have to show that the amount of people playing F2P games didn't change at all after they dropped the restriction to show there was no negative effect.

Well it's from the US, the gaming market besides Japan, that is most heavily screwed towards console.
For Europe it would look different. Especially Germany for example.
I found the Mac numbers most interesting.

Well the paywall isn't dropped yet and I doubt we'll ever get those statistics again.
But you're right. It's possible, that people pay anyways.
The point is, that it's not a factor, that is heavily impacting anything like seeing the playerbase on Xbox being 3 times as low Playstation.

On Xbox One, you need to pay (for Xbox Live Gold) to be able to play Fortnite, On Ps4 you don't
Yet more people play Fortnite per console sold on Xbox compared to Ps4, despite the paywall.

Ill update the figures, just used older ones I remembered.

Yeah, now with adjusted numbers difference is around 2 mil. more in PS4 favor...so....

So Xbox One has still slightly more monthly Fortnite players per Console sold.

maybe this doesn't add up then.

???
With adjusted numbers it's even more in favor of Xbox

PS4 has an active monthly Fortnite playerbase of 5,47%
Xbox One has and active monthly Fortnite playerbase of 5.92%

With my previous numbers those were, PS4 at 5,81% and Xbox One at 6.13%

I find I play online more on the xbox and play single player games on PS4. I don't know why, I just prefer the xbox environment when it comes to social gaming and find the Sony environment to be more... (I can't think of the word without people taking it the wrong way)...secure, isolated, protected. Its like xbox is a party and Sony is a bed and duvet.

Regardless, in this day and age, you should not have to pay for PSN/XBL to play FREE TO PLAY games otherwise, they aren't free to play 🤷‍♂️

There is a serious case of Stockholm syndrome going on in the Xbox family.

P.S. I'm a practicing psychiatric dr. Specialist in Stockholm syndrome.

And i don't waste time watching hours of cutscenes /scripted scenes when i actually want to play a game. Good thing that people have different tastes.
I don't like long cutscenes too, and sometimes when i just want to play the game non-stop because it's really good, i would just like to skip all of them _ long or short. But what you say is just stupid _ so you never played a Resident Evil game, you never played a COD single player, you never played Assassins Creed, Metro, Bioshock _ I just could go on and on and on...
