The Verge: Microsoft has discontinued all Xbox One consoles

Let's stop the bullshit. The "most of us" you are referring to are Xbox fans like you. As a PS fan, I don't particularly like Jim Ryan's style of leadership, but this nonsense comparing him to Don Mattock is absurd. That's a narrative you want to believe, but in no way reflects reality.
No. That's not true at all. Go back and look at any thread about that statement when it was initially made. It was the Sony fans like yourself that were claiming it meant they were all-in on the PS5 and there would be no cross gen games.

I don't want to shame people with their quotes from one such thread, but I see such Sony fans as GHG, Tschumi, IFireflyl, SlimySnake, etc. And that was only in the first page of that thread! So don't give me that nonsense that PS fans didn't think the same. No need to re-write history.

Probably the only reason you didn't participate in that thread is you weren't a part of this community yet! If you want to tell me where you used to post and under what name I'm sure I could find some similar posts from you...

What??? Firstly, I was directly calling out another posters mental gymnastics so I had to reference the statements that they were using in their own post, I really don't understand the point you are trying to make or why you quoted me to make it. I think you are saying that I shouldn't be discussing things that happened in the past because people change their story to suit the current situation and we shouldn't call them out on it because it's in the past??? What???
My comment had nothing to do with what people were saying or how they change things to suit their whatever....it was about the two companies in question, how they might have to change/adjust to the market etc etc but I guess I misunderstood your role in this conversation BUT you cared enough to join it and my question simply was why do you ALL care so much about it? I quoted you since you were the latest to comment on it and was addressing anyone involved.

Regardless, I don't see why it matters so much to anyone at this point. Is everyone so incapable of moving on?

Some people feel vindicated now that it appears that MS had the right direction all along despite the ridicule they received at the beginning of the generation. It's easy to talk about moving on when fans of a certain device had lots to say previously but now want to change the subject. In the end people care because they like seeing success on their preferred platform.

The better question is, why in the world do you all care so much about what each company says, knowing their strategy is likely to change based on things that are happening in the market (and internally). Both companies will adjust their strategy to fit their business. Things can change. The market is dynamic and so the companies also have to be.

If you truly think either MS or Sony changed their release platforms for their games as late as Q3 2020, I have a bridge to sell to you.

Fanboys on both sides have gone to stupid lengths over 'We believe in generations' and similar statements made by MS regarding being where gamers are, etc etc.

‘Similar statements’? That’s grasping at straws.
MS seems to have held up to that statement. They’ve gone to console, PC and are pushing streaming to players who either have no console, have no compatible console or have a weak PC.

You got one thing right, though. This issue is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. And certainly off-topic in this discussion.

Exactly, and to even think that this dual (next gen) console launch strategy was perceived years ago, is even more mindblowing.

Uh what....where is that bridge? I'd like to buy it so you can cross it.

I am not saying they changed their release platforms lol. The narrative has been that Sony said A and started doing B or Microsoft was saying B and did A. The point about companies changing strategy is still a valid point. If Company ABC says they are going to use Strategy A but learn the market isn't receptive to it and/or their internal plans change so they end up implementing strategy B, which is not a big departure from Strategy A but is one none the less so they move forward with it.

Fanboys will see and use that info a certain way but it's stupid to argue over it, over and over again.

I haven't given any examples so not sure why people keep bringing those up and asking me but one example of something that could impact internal planning or strategies across the board has been COVID.

If you haven't learned anything by now, know this — that entirely depends on which side of the fence you are sitting on lol and so the cycle repeats. Why do you care so much about what A said over B?

You got one thing right, though. This issue is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. And certainly off-topic in this discussion.
And we can agree on that.

Yep. I think a lot of people thought Microsoft was foolish for their cross gen approach and even going day one with PC releases, but they've turned out to be absolutely right. People are continuing to buy Xbox Series consoles even though every game is playable on PC. People ridiculed their cross gen approach but it has worked out, and Sony is doing the same thing, to a worse degree in fact.

Microsoft has some smart people running their Xbox division. They've made all the right decisions as of late. Gotta hand it to them!

I was referring to your general comments regarding Jim Ryan and that ridiculous Don Mattrick comparison, not the reaction to the quote. As far as my post history, as I indicated previously, I too ridiculed Jim Ryan's "generations" statement until other correctly pointed out to me that I wasn't reading it in proper context.

Because, GASP, people like to be able to play their games wherever they want. A lot of people who play on PC would still like to kick back and play a game on their big screen TV, and most of those people won't (or won't know how to) run a HDMI cable from their PC to their TV; so they'll buy a box to play games on their TV. And MS gives them the option of playing the same game they were playing on the PC on that console.

Okay, thanks for coming clean. I did not snoop through your post history.

And as for his comments, the fact that others had to point out his alleged intent says everything there is to say about his comments. It doesn't matter if his alleged intent was specifically about features, and not cross gen games; what matters is how people perceive his comments. And people perceived his comments to be that they were not following Microsoft's strategy around cross gen games. And I assume those who pointed out the context were random people on the internet. And not the interviewer? Or not Jim Ryan himself clarifying his comments? So yeah, I don't put too much stock in those random people on line interpreting his comments when the interviewer is the one that put the context out about cross gen games.

You mean the same interview where Ryan stated....

"We have always felt that we had a responsibility to serve that [PS4] community for several years after the launch of PS5 and that it represented a huge business opportunity for us," Ryan says. "

This is getting boring and repetitive. Done with it.

You also can't forget the promotional info for games like GT7 showed it just being on just PS5 then it was updated to be on both PS4 and PS5. There was a bit more to the story than people taking Jim Ryan's comments out of context. The ridicule at MS stance initially was also quite obvious and few took it as a positive at first.

Yep and the same interview where Ryan's "we believe in generations" comment was preceded with the following:

"One way to keep PS4 users engaged would be to make upcoming PS5 games playable on the older machine, just like Microsoft is proposing with its Xbox Series X games being playable on Xbox One. Yet Ryan says that's not something PlayStation is interested in doing."

Upcoming PS5 games, not the cross-gen ones. Why is language so hard? MS's original proposal was all their games, they rescinded that policy and changed course.

Those guys managed to threadban me last night. Watch out. They can't handle the truth. Every article posted was in my imagination.

I felt literally that i was cornered, including my language barrier.

Rescinded? When did they say they will forever support Xbox One?
“As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices,” Booty explains. “We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and [Series X] that they feel that they made a good investment and that we’re committed to them with content.”
All of their first party content released on last gen till now(which is two years since he made that statement) released in Xbox One. The only other thing that sorta qualifies as "our games" is the second party game called Flight Simulator.
The first firm news of console versions came last December, though only Xbox Series S and X were confirmed to be coming this year. That doesn't rule out an Xbox One version, though. "I guess it's a timing thing," Neumann says when asked about Microsoft's older console. "Obviously memory matters. Certainly on Ultra settings, you need a big PC - well, that's a lot, lot more memory than what you had on an Xbox One. So it's a journey, like most things, you know - let's get the Xbox Series X and S versions done, and then we'll look ahead after that. We never close doors, and there are other options, though it's a little bit too early to talk about it."

While stopping short of a confirmation, an xCloud streaming version of Microsoft Flight Simulator for Xbox One makes a lot of sense (as well as inviting some terrible puns about the power of the clouds, of course) - and when it comes to the confirmed console versions, it seems the intent is to keep the Microsoft Flight Simulator experience as intact as possible.

"I mean, it has to be very similar," says Neumann. "Is it the exact same? Well, it can't be the exact same because that's not operable. I think that the beautiful dream that Phil [Spencer] and the team at Xbox has is that you can bomb devices, which is really what we're doing. We're learning where people might have some friction points. We think there's going to be more newcomers on Xbox, so you just need to be gentle in how you guide people into the experience, and there's work going on there.
So they are now a liar because at some point in the development Asobo decided that an Xbox One version is not doable. Ori and the Blind Forest was also announced for 360 but that version was ultimately cancelled.
I wonder where this "where were you guys" whataboutism thread derailer was when this thread was made.
Pfft, who reads past the curated warring clickbait headlines?
So you will now tell me you were the only guy on the internet who decoded his secrete message? Atleast people knew Xbox games will be cross gen for two years from Matt Booty's statement, even though it was negatively received because of perceived notion of cross generational treatment from another platform.

I'll stand by my thinking that Sony's statements were ridiculously ambiguous by design and they got the media response they were looking to attain at that time. The proof of that is that they didn't correct the narrative when the media completely "misunderstood" their statements (by the logic being presented here), which is something they would have done in a heartbeat if they weren't trying to imply that cross-gen wasn't a thing at Sony. The last thing you would want is the media spreading ideas as fact that you were doing XYZ when your real intentions ran counter to that. Obviously they knew that they would have to announce the PS4 versions eventually but I assume they were trying to ride a positive wave of energy in May and figured by September they could drop the news as a footnote buried in a press release.

Lmao, you commented in that thread when it hit NeoGAF and you certainly went along with the general understanding. Not a single dissenting opinion from you.

Pretty much every player in games journalism interpreted Ryan’s comments that way. Trying to spin this as poor comprehension or console warring is illogical. Especially when Sony made no effort to set the record straight.

More or less i was talking tabout he same stuff you quoted.

Golden pass straight into sony's ass i say.

Because cross gen or PC games doesn’t impact me in a negative way. I also understood they would have PS5 only games, in which they did.

Wasn’t that hard to parse. Just temper tantrums that doesn’t impact the vast general populace still buying out every system in stock.

Only forum and Twitter wars.

People like talk about how we did not read the article in "context", while ignoring in the same breath the bigger context how Sony were announcing games implicitly or explicitly as PS5 only. At the time of the interview, miles morales and HFW were only announced for PS5 months after their official reveal.

As the other guy showed, most Sony guys here who will jump on you and start saying that you are reading it "out of context" are the same guys who were praising Sony for their stance. Including panjeev2001 who try to defend Jimbo on every possible chance was on that thread posting about the news and never corrected anyone.

What these guys wants to do is that any statement of Sony can be interpreted in any way. Lol at the guy who said "PS5 exclusive could mean that it is only at launch for one day" or some shit.

Yeah, I am right but not for the reasons you think. I have no problem with you calling Jim Ryan a liar. His PR in the past could be described as intentionally deceptive or incredibly incompetent. Fine with either, really.
