If you can't get over the look of Ellie, you are exposing yourself as a total goober. When you say she's miscast, you're telling me that you have no imagination. The effectiveness of the storytelling has nothing to do with whether Joel has Hispanic features / is ethnically ambiguous or if Ellie is a little downsy looking instead of an Ellen Page replica. For some stories how a character looks is party of that character's story. This is not one of them and you are embarrassing yourself.

I do agree with whomever said some shots look cheap while others look very expensive.

It looks great. I am still a little worried about how they're going to go about filling an entire season with quality drama and what not. They have a lot of time to fill.

I was never too keen on the casting of the two stars and I'm still not completely feeling it. But I'll give it a chance.

Looks like the game but it isn't playable. Some sets look decent, some look kind of cheap.
As a TLOU fan myself, I don't see why I should be watching this. I know the story, these are not Joel and Ellie for me.
I would have preferred a new story with new characters in the universe rather than a direct series adaptation of the games.

I'm somewhat skeptic, hope that the casting works well for these characters, however I already have HBO so I will definitely give this a chance.

There are certain indicators that allow you to gauge a TV shows hype. TLOU's anticipation among tv heads is insane. One such indicator is the official reddit. I had a peruse and they got threads like "Apparently today is outbreak day?" :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

The official reddit has 9K subs in a day or so and that audiences hype levels are something I've rarely seen for a tv show.

Also there is zero discussion about whether Bella Ramsey is "pretty" enough.

It would've been nice if their pick for Ellie had more of a resemblance to the videogame version of her (while also having the acting chops to boot) but that isn't really the part that bugs me, it's that I was hoping they could at least get her hairstyle right because it looks like they didn't even try, but whatever. It's looking good apart from that, I knew they wouldn't disappoint with the practical effects after they nailed it in Chernobyl.

Theres nothing in the zombie genre like the revenge/avenge/love/hate theme of TLOU 2. It would/will be awesome when adapted to TV.
And there's a reason. The same reason forced Druckmann to get rid of that awful Tess villian/revenge thing he was going for in the first game.

Whatever you see in Part II was already done better in every single media form, including shows like The Walking Dead.

He was hated for killing off beloved characters too.

Idk GIF
Difference he's a well written and charismatic character..

on a side note:

Im more pumped for the show now after finding out Barrie Gower is doing the Prosthetics for the infected.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS CGI

He did Vecna in Stranger Things S4, amongst others.

Best in the biz right now.

Resident evil netflix needed him

Guys...this first TLOU teaser is the equivalent to this:

Not much CGI used, mostly fast cuts, etc...

This was the one House of the Dragon teaser trailer from 4 months ago:

7 months separate both of these trailers. CGI shots everywhere, finally dragons, etc...

The episodes we're watching look even better.

This TLOU teaser is somewhere between the first House of the Dragon and the 2nd i just posted since we already have an aerial shot of the city looking all post-apocalyptic and a clicker, even if a very fast cut.

It's like people don't know how a teaser trailer is supposed to be...

The episodes will look much more consistent when we get this. The fact it already looks so compelling right now? It has a kick ass team that knows cinematography, a great soundtrack, and already glimpses of a great cast and acting.

We're in for a ride i think.

We are not talking about CG. In fact, the CG and special effects look fantastic and a cut above the rest.

We are talking about cinematography which isnt gonna get magically improved in post. It's how the tv show was shot on film on location. Unless they put a different filter all over the tv show, its not going to look different. It's how the directors and cinematographers intended the show to look.

I dont know how ANY true TLOU fans can defend this. TLOU2 looks better than this. ND has hollywood artists who were able to create stunning looking cutscenes not just because they are good at drawing character models or animating them because they are excellent cinematographers. A video game should NEVER look better than an expensive tv show. Especially an HBO one. You can go and watch every single cutscene in TLOU2 and it is lit with a cinematic flair, and feels like an expensive movie. This show feels expensive in some shots, and very cheap in others.

TLOU2 has several bad looking areas during gameplay, but it looks amazing in cutscenes all the time. Maybe ND artists shouldve been hired for this tv show.

Yep.
This isn't a video game which released version is not much different with the trailer.
Movie can looks much better with VFX work later. As long as the composition and lighting,etc,.. looks great then we have nothing to worry about.

Plenty of times. Just this week about Avatar and Casino. I am very high on House of Dragon every single week. I just dont excuse mediocrity. I expect better from HBO.

Glad to see you didnt address my points though because nothing I said is wrong. You just think the popular opinion is the correct one which is hilarious.

Here comes the cherry picked screengrabs, and endless walls of ad nauseum text of why it's not next-gen looking.

"Per my sources, a show centered around Joel and Tess' years in the apocalypse is planned"
Just give us a fucking game about that! I'd buy it in a heartbeat and would probably be my most anticipated game of the gen even.
Tess already looks insane in the Remake, don't waste her model and VA..

It seems like a lot of people in this thread don't know how casting works.

If you're paying $100+ million dollars for a TV series, then you need recognizable faces that will attract a casual audience. There are probably hundreds of actors that look like Joel and Ellie, but does the casual audience know who they are?

Millions of people are going to watch this day one just because of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

If you're making an indie movie, they always suggest that you cast recognizable faces. One perfect example of this is a movie called Half Nelson.

This movie had a $700 - $800k budget

Ryan Gosling was paid around $500 - $600k for his role.

You can also use the Uncharted movie as an example. Nathan Fillion looks like Nathan Drake, but Tom Holland was more capable of attracting the casual audience and this move was the reason why it was such a huge success.

Walking Dead is one of my favourite shows. I’ve seen every single episode, started watching it back in 2010…

The writing is nowhere near TLOU 2 levels. In fact, it kind of sucks.

TLOU 2 is levels above walking dead, not even close

Ellie is so wrong on so many levels, she doesn't fit AT ALL. Can't unsee it, disgusting waste.

You don't cast based on looks. You cast based on acting ability.
That's so cute to live in a fantasy world.

In a perfect world, that would be right, but if you really think that look doesn't count, we can't do anything for you.

And no, writing it big and red doesn't make it a truth.

Oh gosh.. In Walking Dead i've personally never heard things like "Rate our kiss from last night", "bigot sandwich", "You are my people" (said to a stranger for no reason whatsoever while betraying the people you have been your all life with), etc... etc... etc...

No one said looks don’t matter.

But they hired a little white girl as Ellie, that’s good enough. She got the roll over other little white girls because she can ACT better.

I’m sorry you’re shallow and want supermodels in your post apocalyptic zombie shows lmao. The rest of us think that shit is corny.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
You see video games to movies do a terrible job the story behind last of us is something many will enjoy, last of us 3 the game will be better than 1 and 2.
