Huh? Xbox softwares are not region-free. All PS3 games support HDTV, and if you have HDTV you can play all PS3 games around world but on 360 you can't. Big difference here.hadareud said:exactly like xbox and xbox 360 it seems. People should not get excited over the region free stuff, it seems it will be up to the publishers.

As he spoke, Jobe piloted a jet fighter through a massive in-air battle. In the back- and foreground, hundreds of enemy fighters engaged in "next-generation behavior" by dodging clouds of tracer fire and strafing massive airborne capital ships.
During his demo--which featured highly detailed graphics full of dynamic shadows, detailed explosions, and cloud effects--Jobe also revealed that Warhawk would be playable at E3.
Specifically, he said this was done to encourage "makers of massively multiplayer online role-playing-game-type products" to integrate into the network. Later, he would hold up the wildly popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, which boasts over six million subscribers, as a paradigm. "If World of Warcraft were a country, it would be bigger than Ireland," said Harrison. "That's what we would like to achieve in terms of community."
Using the mention of community as another segue, Harrison presented several slides which showed the interface of the PSNP. Using the PS3 game Formula 1 as a backdrop, he showed how up to three simultaneous video chat windows could pop up during gameplay via a minimalist, translucent heads-up display (HUD). Later slides showed how a player could send messages, check e-mail, scour friends lists, and send game requests all while in-game--and all using the same translucent HUD architecture.
The demo was a far cry from the trailer which wowed audiences at E3 2005, even showing slight frame-rate issues at times. However, the results were still impressive, as Kirkland guided a dune buggy through a plain of mud which dried in real time, eventually impeding the vehicle's progress. He explained the PS3's Cell had the ability to render sophisticated in-game dynamics, allowing wheels to drop in newly created ruts and dirt splattered onto walls to visibly dry.

My understanding is that many companies hosting conferences, Sony included, were very strict about preventing video recording. I assume it's not a question about being able to upload but rather one if anyone even snuck in a device and was able to capture footage.ironichaos said:Come on, this is 2006. Why hasn't anyone uploaded videos of the demos to the net yet?
haven't they done it in the past?Ponn01 said:Just a sudden train of thought I was having. What IF (very big IF) Sony hasn't been misleading everyone about price and numbers. What if they really do think 1 - 2 million PS3's will be plenty for a worldwide launch BECAUSE the PS3 is going to launch at around $1000. I know it's crazy talk and honestly I don't believe it, but just throwing it out there. I actually think reality will be $499.99 with HDD included.
Amir0x said:Sony isn't suicidal. They may think they can get away with $499.99 (imo, they can't), but $999.99 is not only ridiculous it's also much more than the price of the components in PS3 and would go completely against the business model they had established up until this point.
Epic Games held a press briefing today at its exposuite in the GDC. There, they proceeded to show off the Unreal 3 engine and specifically, how it has been used to create their next-generation games for the new consoles. Shane Caudle, was the point man for the presentation, began the presentation with a playable demo of Gears of War.
The level opened up with a in-game cinematic of a futuristic vehicle driving through a forested area during a storm. Dialogue seemed to indicate a situation at a nearby factory that the vehicle was heading to check on. After the cinematic ended, the playable character was out of his vehicle and walking around the level. the graphics were simply mind-blowing with normal mapped models everywhere and incredible lighting and shadows.
As Shane moved his player through the level, we would catch brief glimpses of creatures crawling about before disappearing. The sound effects were equally impressive as the rain and lightning crashes were quite realistic sounding as well. The game is played in a sort of third-person view, but Shane said it was more of a second-person view similar in the vein of Resident Evil 4. It was noted to be quite an effective camera placement to give the viewer both ample view of the action and creating a creepy mood and atmosphere at the same time.
After a few minutes of walking around, the creatures finally appeared entirely by swarming around the player, all the while screeching loudly and jumping about quite fast, so fast that Shane couldn't keep up and his player died, or rather, he stopped the demo before his player could be killed.
This game is truly a showpiece for the power of the Xbox 360, and it is clearly going to be one of the best games of 2006. Check back with Advanced Media for continuing coverage of this title as well as other games using the Unreal 3 engine.
I'll toss my hat in the "need footage" camp. GoW is being positioned as THE killer app for the 360 for 2006.sorryaboutdresden said:http://360.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=6981
Have Gears of War impressions been posted yet? Haven't seen any.
Definitely can't wait for this game, but it doesn't take away from my hard-on for the PS3 that was pretty much viagrad today during the keynote.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were to happen....

You're saying what was shown was a far cry from this?

"GDC essentially confirmed that everything game related Sony showed at E3 was purely rendered footage" = nonsense.
Marconelly said:Does TekkunoRobby really think the Warhawk demo presentation at this GDC was worse looking than the Warhawk at last E3, or did he just forgot that the Warhawk video at last E3 wasn't really all that, and in fact was worse looking than the little video snippet of realtime footage from TGS?
TekunoRobby said:So yes I apologize to all of you who've read it, I know I suck!
I'd like to clarify a bit. What I meant by "was no indication of the final product" is that it wasn't the actual game running in demo form like an alpha or a beta. I always prefer real-time demonstrations versus filmed ones and pre-rendered CG and we didn't get it with E3 aside from the various tech demos. Aside from them being a target render and a look into what the game will probably be or what they're working for I don't think I can sit there and say that the video is a guarantee of any way shape or form that the actual product will be like that aside from developer's word. Unfortunately it was my mistake and I was in an incredible haste to get a story out so I didn't pay that comment any mind. Another example of why I suck! :lolMe said:GDC essentially confirmed that everything game related Sony showed at E3 was purely rendered footage and was no indication of the final product.
Once the camera fully removed itself out of the tunnel, it quickly swooped downwards "Fifth Element-style" through a number of multi-level highways speeding past buildings and floating obstacles. After a couple of near-misses with the flying cars, the camera finally settled in a perched position overlooking a walkway. As the viewpoint stopped moving, police sirens started blaring in the background while an army of robotic soldiers began marching in unison down the sidewalk. Halfway through the march, a speeding car zoomed overhead at high velocity while several police cars (no doubt the source of the sirens heard earlier) chased after it. And just to make things clear as the trailer came to an end, a giant blimp with an electric "Ratchet and Clank" logo floated in and out of view as the image faded to black.
Needless to say, the trademark style of Ratchet and Clank made the game immediately obvious to those who had played the franchise once the video first popped up. Then again, we had never seen the franchise quite like this before. Shown in extremely high detail with plenty of animation, Ratchet PS3's city was certainly beautiful. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it was almost the best looking demo of the entire presentation -- second only to The Getaway.
Sounds like a bit of sour grapes to us, but Microsoft's Director of Game Tech, Scott Henson, spoke some rather doubtful words about PS3's 1080p claims in an interview with Kikizo the other day. He states: "I think 1080p, just to address that directly, will be basically impossible. I think if you talk to any developer they will tell you that they will not have a performing game at 1080p."
Their PR releases say 1080p, the station site says 1080i ; I would guess 1080p because the PR is most certainly 'newer', but who knows. Either way, of course its possible, theres nothing technically stopping it, its just the result....is rather 'meh'. I think GT5 will be the first game running in 1080p that does it justice thoughSolidSnakex said:
