Previous Rumor About: Motorfest

Ubisoft’s popular racing franchise is set to receive a new entry, The Crew Motorfest. Set in Honolulu, the upcoming game aims to deliver the best racing experience from the franchise yet.

The Crew franchise is under the development of Ubisoft Ivory Tower in France. Previously, the studio has led development on both entries in The Crew franchise. Today we spotted a new job listing from the studio that reveals more about the next entry.

A Job listing for Technical Artist -New Project at Ubisoft Ivory Tower states;

Play as a team, Race for excellence, and Get creative!
Good notion of vehicle design and a good understanding of vehicle mechanics is a plus.
Though the Ubisoft Ivory Tower team did not mention The Crew Motorfest, the job listing strongly suggests that the developer is hiring for a racing game.

Furthermore, we spotted, The Crew Motorfest will be based on Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. The ad states:

The Crew Motorfest Job Listing

Previous games in the series were based on a completely different engine. Crew 2 used the Babel engine, while the first game used the Dunia engine. This could mean that Ubisoft is looking to take things further with the Snowdrop engine, which has already shown impressive visuals across multiple games.

The job listing also reveals Ubisoft Stockholm is leading development on The Crew Motorfest. It states:

On this new project led by Ubisoft Stockholm.
Ubisoft is already exploring new genres with its Snowdrop engine. The studio is working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and a Star Wars project with the Snowdrop engine, and now it seems like The Crew Motorfest will also join the same engine. This could mean that Snowdrop is a very flexible engine, allowing the team to utilize it for the racing genre.

Ubisoft has not developed a racing game on Snowdrop yet, but it will be exciting to see the team at Ubisoft Ivory Tower explore the Snowdrop engine and bring the next entry in the franchise to life. The Crew Motorfest is set to release in 2023, but an exact date has not been revealed yet.

Sounds like a good investment and furthering of the Avatar developments, if true. Snowdrop hasn't been pushed in this way as far as scale and speed of traversal in the Division games, but they've had to expand that for Banshee rides and whatever else Avatar is doing, plus Star Wars will likely need to work out Snowdrop in unique ways, so a racing game could be good on it while also feeding back to the base. Hopefully it works out well.

I know its mot as simple as "Use Snowdrop hurr durr" but it does baffle me why Ubisoft hasn't looked to develop Snowdrop further and use it across more of its game series particularly Assassin's Creed. Third person, loot system, cover system, large scale open world and visually Impressive.
