Team17 Announces Post-Apocalyptic RPG Broken Roads

rdIYOfu.jpg

Team17 is getting a headstart for gamescom week with the announcement of a new post-apocalyptic game from Drop Bear Bytes called Broken Roads. Set in Western Australia, Broken Roads is a turn-based role-playing game with a big emphasis on narrative. Inspired by classic single-player RPGs, Drop Bear Bytes aims to blend traditional gameplay with original mechanics.

Speaking of which, Broken Roads features a Moral Compass system. At the start of the game, you will be asked a series of moral quandaries that will determine where you start on that compass. This moral system has four philosophical paths: Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist. As you explore the wasteland you decide which way your Moral Compass swings by your actions. This will have an impact on both story and gameplay as the game progresses.

The game also boasts hand-drawn visuals to bring real-world locations from Western Australia to life in the post-apocalypse. And to ground the sound further into the game's narrative, the score is uniquely composed with instruments crafted from everyday objects.

Broken Roads is set to release in 2022 for consoles and PC via Steam. You can wishlist the game now on Steam. This is just the start of gamescom 2021. We will be live on Twitch tomorrow for gamescom Opening Night Live and as always we will have coverage of some of the exciting titles coming out of gamescom throughout the event.

Born of a love for traditional computer role-playing, Broken Roads provides a rich, engaging narrative in which players make their way across a desolated future Australia. Blending together traditional and all-new role-playing elements on top of a classless system offering nearly unlimited character development options, Broken Roads presents players with an original morality system: the Moral Compass. This novel design sees dialogue options and questing decisions influence, and be influenced by, a character's philosophical leaning.

Features

  • All-new post-apocalyptic setting
  • Unique morality system influencing dialogue, quests and character development
  • Authentic Australian locations and environments
  • Blend of traditional and original RPG mechanics
  • Up to 5 party members
  • Turn-based tactical combat
  • Hand-drawn artwork
  • A content-rich and densely-crafted world

The developers announced this game all the way back in 2019, not sure why Team 17 are making it sound like it's completely new and nobody has heard of it before.

why even bother having a post-apocalypse setting in Australia, its bad enough in the present-day with all the great whites, tiger sharks, bull sharks, bulldog ants, box jellyfish, taipans, eastern brown, those fucking horrid funnel-web spiders, super-sized crocs and Australian cricketers.

All that shit is just of the top of my head,

farmerboy farmerboy your from down under, what other nasties are there in those savage lands.

In summer we get droves of these critters infesting our shores. All crooked teeth and unwashed pale bodies. As they're not indigenous to these shores, they have trouble acclimatising. Usually in an incoherent stupor, (real beer served at proper cool temperatures seems to overcome them quite easily), they'll shed the upper portions of their clothes to sun their wretched torsos to the Australian sun. Horrifically, many burn within the hour, being drunk allows them to push on, painless. Though the following days and nights become a sleepless horror, as their blistered skin makes sleep a distant memory. As awful as they seem, they mix well with the local fauna. Some would say they've been missed. You see, covid travel restrictions have dwindled their numbers in the last 2 years.

They are, (play menacing music) the BARMY ARMY
