Incredible and utterly deserved. What a comeback from the start of this generation compared to the end.

Glad to see Xenblade Chronicles crack a million on it's third go too. There's a good chance I'm going to end up with as many copies of that game as I do Resi 4.

Anyone got an up to date launch aligned graph for Switch vs PS4?

Few more big hitters and a hardware update and its not unreasonable to expect it to surpass PS4 sales (108m?) over the next few years?

COVID helped and it suits all demographics from kids to grannies. It also has a fixed camera and simple controls. It's defnitely a success for how pull marketing can work during times of extreme circumstance.

Switch is a sales beast, no doubt. Sword and Shield have to be the worst Pokemon games to date yet they're on track to ourself Gold and Silver.

Aren't the best selling games on PS4 mostly shitty sports games, COD, and GTA5?

I wouldn't call Nintendo fans the biggest suckers.
I didn't say Nintendo fans are suckers don't change my words

I don't play sports games or COD, but atleast you do "something" in those games

AC is what? you plant and grow and trade shit? where is the game? this looks like the most boring shit ever created

but enjoy i guess

SwSh was fun for what it is, it never come to the point of disappointment realistically.
That means it will sell, just like Diamond and Pearl.

PS4 is at 112 million now. It will get a price cut when PS5 hits, so PS4 will end EASILY with 125/130million sales in total.

Switch doesn't have that reach even with pokemon.

No GTA, COD,... on switch to reach the bigger audience but nintendo has a loyal base though.

I could say the same about all the 3rd person punchy shooty 10 hours of muh cinematic cutscenes PS4 exclusives.

The Switch is also an indie game monster, btw. For your annual Cowadoody you buy a Cowadoody box.

These are impressive numbers. I’m more interested in seeing where they are by the end of this quarter.

I’m surprised how low RingFit Adventure has sold; I would have guessed it would have been well over 5 million.

I’d also like to see where Luigi’s Mansion, Fire Emblem and Zelda: Link’s Awakening stand. LM is a freakin’ gem.

Switch doesn't have that reach even with pokemon.
The Switch has been out for about half the time the PS4 has (just over 3 years vs almost almost years) and has sold more than half what the PS4 has sold. I'd say that is pretty good going. Indeed based on what I can find on Google, it seems like it took the PS4 around 4 years to sell 60 million (so a year longer than the Switch has taken). And some of those attach rates are insane (literally 11 in every 3 Switch owners has AC, Mario kart and Smash Bros, and almost that number have Pokemon and Zelda).

Y'know people could say the same thing about UC4 or God of Walk?

AC has tons of gameplay. The game can be quite engaging and addictive but I see it doesn't appeal to your matoor sensibilities.

Okay.

Handily beating the 3DS and WiiU sales combined is a damned good sign, and strongly indicates they're expanding their audience again.

Bloody hell, this is going to breeze past the 80m I originally predicted it would sell.

We could well be looking at the first generation where two consoles end up selling over 100m. Fucking wild.

Maybe just maybe people simply like the game even if YOU don't see the appeal....its call people having different taste, I don't know why you need to act childish about it!? Are you that upset that other people enjoy a game you personally don't like?

This is the only thing I can see that gives me some hope Nintendo will give the Pokemon Devs a kick up the arse.

These are all games which look a generation ahead graphically, that have listened to fan feedback and made improvements and changes to their core formulas, and sold gangbusters accordingly.

Meanwhile Pokemon, even with it's exploitative dual version release, multimedia empire, massive Hollywood blockbuster and ever popular merchandise, still failed to evolve or keep up with it's audiences wishes, and has started to fall behind.

I'm certain it'll be able to coast on as it has forever, but this is proof positive that there absolutely is room for millions more sales if they actually pulled their fingers out and put some bloody effort in.

Launch aligned, Switch is ahead of PS4. There are only 2 Pokemon games on Switch and we'll probably get 2 more down the road.

Here are the reasons why Switch isn't over yet.
1. New games with insane selling power.
BOTW2 - 20M seller
New 3D Mario - 20M seller
New Pokemon Gen - 20M seller
New Pokemon Remake - 15M seller
New 2D Mario - 15M seller
3D Mario Port - 10M seller
Tomodachi Game - 10M seller

2. Evergreens are monsters.
ACNH and MK8D will get into 35M-40M territory.
Zelda BOTW switch will end at 25-28M.
SMO will end at 22-25M.
Pokemon SwSh will end at 22-25M.
Smash Ultimate will end at 28-30M
SMP, Pokemon PE, Splatoon 2, and NSMBUD will end at 12-15M

3. Price Cut and new Revision/Upgrade
Switch has 0 price cut so far and still out of stock across the globe. New Revision/Upgrade will extend Switch lifetime on the market.

Low effort console war shitposting. Have something worthwhile to contribute if you're going to respond.
Awful console (home and handheld) with barely any game the, fact that is selling a lot tells a lot about the current state of the market.

Nintendo had another stroke of luck.

Damn, impressive job by Nintendo.

How much profit are they making on each Switch vs what MS or Sony make from an Xbox or PS4, anyway?
Nintendo generated more profit than Sony gaming division and Microsoft gaming division combined in the last FY earning.

And now Nintendo recordes the highest Q1 profit ever for gaming companies.

Yes, i believe during last Holiday when Switch passed 50 mil. There were the articles about that IIRC.

I agree that those graphics are not up to standards compared to other flagship titles.

Still, I've recently played the classic competitive battles in Sword after finishing the story - the whole game was satisfying btw for me. It's a whole lot better than before with more balancing plus the new mechanics added from the new Pokemons.
My point is they've never slacked much in terms of gameplay, with classic turn based at its core. So I'm not sure if what the audiences wishes actually correlates to what they had been striving to do since the start of the franchise.

Those are some impressive numbers.
As these numbers are from July 30th, it's likely that Switch has already outsold NES, which stands at 61,9 million.
After NES; though, is quite a gap. IIRC, next console to overtake in sales is the 3DS, which is around 76 million. Unless Switch's holiday sales are absolutely colossal, it won't reach those numbers this FY. Next FY, though. It should fly past with ease.

The best part, Nintendo recorded the highest operating profit for Q1 than any other gaming companies of all time.
Oh, well this is a fact that's actually interesting. I guess the combination of *cough* conservative hardware and low development costs will do it.

It's interesting because you'd think MTX would be the easiest avenue to this. MTX has the lowest marginal cost of any development, you would think. Has Nintendo just taught the industry a lesson here?

ps4 is at the end of its life...switch is only a couple of years old...they could keep releasing mario games and easily hit that number at the rate they are going now
the switch does not have the same issue the Wii had with being a 1 trick pony

i give it another 2 years and it will easily surpass the ps4 lifetime sales

Nintendo during Switch era has generated nearly 80% of PlayStation gaming division profit during PS4 era in just half of PS4's lifetime and likely to surpass it in the next FY as PS4 nearing its end.

What an insane comeback from Nintendo.

Compared profits :

Sony: $1.15B

Nintendo had another stroke of luck.
Conversly, I'd say it's one of the best systems Nintendo has ever made, with easily one of their best and most diverse libraries of games, and anyone who isn't able to find enjoyment out of it probably needs a new hobby.

Between the current state of the Switch, Playstation 4/5 and PC gaming, I'd say this is the healthiest and most fun and creative the games industry has been for decades.
