Preemptive damage control for empty theaters. Hard pass

"We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women's bodies." is full blown feminist gender theory / Foucauldian body theory nonsense that's all the rage on universities. It's a huge warning sign when someone spouts this crap.

I reckon It'll do at least 50% less than Superman at the box office.
Imagine how funny it would be if it does 70-80% the BO, right at that (largely mythical) pay gap the leftists keep yammering on about :P

I want it to do well though, because I want it to be a fun awesome film.

I'm guessing will do worse than that. Supergirl doesn't have that much presence outside of comics. If Superman performed bad out of their territory, pretty sure Supergirl will be almost if not non existant.

Wonder Woman did well and did she have presence outside comics? I guess times are different but suprises can happen. Supergirl was in the Arrowverse and even had her own TV series so that could help. I hope it does well.

I don't know what else Superman had to contend with.
But Supergirl's month is a minefield. She will have to face off against Masters of the Universe, Toy Story 5, and Scary Movie in the same month.

Yes she had. At least here thanks to Justice League animated series which was absurdly popular here.

I couldn't make it through the full trailer. This version of Supergirl is the ultimate obnoxious girl boss. She's not even the slightest bit likable.

Zero accountability strikes again.

women also dont like other women at least privately.
They make a plethora of reality shows with women shitting on each other out in the open.

And they're vastly successful due to the gay male and female audience.

Women don't turn out for empowerment, they do when it comes to drama shows tearing each other down, however.

I'm pretty tired of superheroes being apathetic with the world, cynical, humiliated with breaking fourth wall jokes, incompetent, weak...or all of them at the same time. Where's the sincerity and confidence?

Looks like anyone learned anything with that first Wonderwoman movie...

Really, I don't know what they were thinking here. Even if it's good, the circumstances surrounding it have bomb written all over it.

Was Iron Man the last confident hero.

She's attractive, just not exactly "Supergirl" attractive, you know? I think it might be her mouth, it got that Mick Jagger look.

I, for one, am truly shocked to already see the misogyny drum being banged. When it's too hard to just accept your movie may not turn out to be an infallible masterpiece so you have to resort to pseudo-intellectual horseshit like "ownership over women's bodies". Such a hilariously large amount of women "just existing" perfectly fine in the same type of movie but yes, it's that pure hate not the ChatGPT-ass writing.

She looks great in House of the Dragon

Theres a bit where shes dressed as a boy with her pants down to her knees and shes getting Kit-Kat'd by Viggo the Carpathian. I got a slight chubb from it ✊

She was called ugly before so she didn't cause it.

Also she was asked in a interview. Its not like she just made a statement:

Then came this exchange. The interviewer asked the former House of the Dragon star: Has the famously fickle Game of Thrones fandom prepared Alcock for the inevitable backlash she'll face? Alcock replied, "It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on. We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women's bodies. I can't really stop them. I can only be myself."

Her statement seems inarguable. Alcock was 21 years old and playing a teenager on the first season of the HBO fantasy drama. Fans made all sorts of (sometimes gross) comments about her (as they did about Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner on the original Game of Thrones). If anything, Alcock seems rather Zen and non-reactive about this.

She generalized about an entire group of people based on a handful of I'm sure cherry picked comments online, save it for someone who cares what you have to say bud, she isn't gonna fuck you.

I wouldn't say she was generalising an entire group of people. She got some odd comments and responded to that. I don't think this needs to be a big deal. But the discourse must flow.

The more they show the worse it looks. Not sure I'll watch even if it hits streaming.
I could be perfectly fine with a Supergirl movie if it was set on Earth or some colorful and fun place. The trailer looks like it's on some depressing and rejected GotG planet.

I have nothing against Supergirl the character herself, I would have been perfectly fine with one with Sasha Calle.

Wouldn't surprise me honestly if he lurks at times, he's a gamer and probably doesn't frequent the purple place.

STFU": 'Supergirl' Star Milly Alcock Just Proved Her Point About Fan Backlash:

The funny thing here is that the groups mocking Sydney Sweeney are VEEEERRRYYYY different than the ones doing it to Bella Ramsey, and Jenna Ortega gets her own heat from the way she runs her mouth. None of these women ('it' in the case of Bella I guess?) are getting anything like a unified systemic 'backlash'.

What's REALLY funny is that you don't see much backlash against MEN in these roles because.....drum roll.....almost ALL the men are good looking and in shape! Shocker! They don't cast a stunted dwarf with a pot belly to be Superman, or a buck toothed bulging forehead guy to go into space to defeat aliens. The men are ALL attractive, thus there is little to 'backlash' about other than maybe political ramblings. Maybe there are women online fighting over the next Batchelor or some YA vampire big dick lover adaptation but even the critics don't sully themselves going into those spaces.

I am just so tired of modern actresses or people like them. The audience, regardless if they're toxic or not, they're not obligated to love you, or like you, or even approve of you. They're all entitled to their opinion whether it's warranted or not. I am so tired of this entitled attitude from the current generation of celebrity who thinks..."well some casting director saw fit to hire me, so you're obligated to love me. " They need to accept that not everyone will love you, and if you want people to like you, you have to appeal to them, not start arguments with them. If your appeals don't work, you move on, and maybe it hurts your career because no one fell in love with you...that's the way the cookie crumbles. Like the stupid bitch Rachel Zegler said "it's hollywood baby". She sucks, but she completely doesn't understand that comment she said. It's known for chewing people up and spitting them out.

Obviously this isn't only a thing in Hollywood, we got people all over the internet in different forms of content or whatever bitching, and screaming at people for not blindly following and loving them. It's never gonna work that way! If anything, this mentality is just pushing more people further and further away from caring about anything these people do.

I can see from certain angles this actress being okay for the role, but I can also see how she wouldn't put butts in seats. Supergirl is an idealized strength, and beauty fantasy for women, just like Superman is for men. That's why I think Clark Kent is supposedly a good enough disguise for Superman, because he basically tries to ugly himself up a little. As a human, she's attractive enough...as Supergirl, she's mid. She's not casting Bella Ramsey in The Last of Us bad in terms of putting a face on screen that you're meant to look at. It's just not what you expect for someone whose basically supposed to be perfect.

I grew up well into my 20s loving film...loving movies. Some schlock, but also just loving the artistry of some movies, but I also had my love of some not so great movies that were of questionable quality. Now...I just don't give a shit about most movies. There are so few actual talent, and artists left in the industry. Why do I want to watch anything someone does if they think I'm toxic, or are one of these activists that think I should get on my knees and beg forgiveness because I'm a straight while male.

I think, as with anything on the internet, there are all kinds of people saying all kinds of things. I know from the Sydney Sweeney thread on here there've been people there saying stuff about her face. So I don't think it's just a case of a clear dividing line between Group A saying X and Group B saying Y.

I think the issue is how online platforms connect us all. A few thousand people not liking something isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things but a few thousand people tagging you in messages about how you look is going to feel shitty. Clearly the answer is to not be on social media but the genie is out of the bottle on that one. I'm quite happy to not be a public figure so it's not going to affect me but I think it's easier said than done to just say "I'd just not look" and I might find it hard to resist doing so if I was in that position. And again it's probably best to just ignore those kinds of comments if you do see them but if you feel like you're getting flooded with them then it's maybe hard to resist pushing back.

You do get it with guys too. I remember Will Poulter talking about comments he received from people, Zac Effron has spoken about getting stuff after an accident broke his jaw and Barry Keoghan was recently talking about ones he got too. There's no doubt more but those are just a few off the top of my head.

This is a much more "on script" way to approach things. No need to drag gender into it directly or scoff at the (only) audience this type of product is gonna have. Sell me on why this is worth seeing, what fun spin you've put on the character, and why Millie is the best choice.

I would postulate that for a race that is down to a SINGLE male and female left, who can't shaboink because they are blood related, ANY notion of gender goes right out the window. And for a race of god-like power, notions of feminism are also right out the window in ways that would make her baulk at ANY notion that she is weaker to a male of (virtually) ANY species. She isn't a champion for women, she is a champion of ONLY HERSELF (like she says) because she has almost no peers, much less superiors, and none of them are tied to species, race, gender, or anything like that. Stellar geography is about the only barrier :P

I wonder if a Helen Slater cameo will pop up in the movie ? Looking forward to seeing how Lobo is portrayed but gonna wait on HBO Max for this .
More excited for Man of Tomorrow tbh
