I noticed this guy:

how is this possible? how did he managed to play over 800 hours in just 336 hours time period?

Initially, yeah, but after a while they come down to reasonable levels. The bigger issue is that retailers here never run any deals that are comparable to the likes of what Newegg, Amazon, etc. occasionally offer.

This is my biggest gripe with upgrading my computer. There are never any deals, if there are deals then they are normally the more expensive shops 'discounting' to match the $5 cheaper price their competitor has.

JaseC, whats the total damage?

Roughly AUD$2,700 worth of stuff by my count.

Please tell me we are going to hit 4000 today.

Yes, "we". I am living vicariously through you.

Alas my bank account won't allow it. :( Maybe by the end of the month, though, depending on how the Weeklies and such unfold. I still have the Disney Fairy/Princess Pack in my inventory for the occasion, but money permitting I might make a grossly-overpriced copy of Rugby Challenge 2 #4000 instead.

Wow that's crazy.

So I have most of the main expansions for CKII now outside of Charlemagne. Is stuff like the weather system just part of the game now or do I need to get the dlc to have it?

Holy shit balls batman!

Atleast you finally got FM15 :D

I'm still kindasorta wondering if there's a Korean version. Box shots on Korean retailer sites are in Korean, obviously, and the app that's on the Steam Store itself doesn't support Korean, but even though the game released in November there's still no Football Manager 2015 Korean in the registry.

How do you not have Nekro? It was bundled? Also, never get Facerig, it makes me feel special to own something you don't have. :)

I skipped on the bundle as I want the CE, but the devs keep being stingy with discounts, haha.

Well I have decided to save my upwards-of-$20 in gabens I'll have after farming and selling all my cards and put it towards The Phantom Pain rather than spend it in this sale. It's an epiphany I had when figuring I have been trying to go DRM-free lately and should spend steam-exclusive credit on a steam-exclusive game that I considered a must-buy.

Nicely put Kiyone~! I normally don't like divulging too much about VNs because I want people to experience things themselves and really get into the stories which is kinda hard sometimes if you spoil a major point of some. I ran the original VN thread and I usually shy away from spoiling interesting major surprises. (Like I would definitely never give up Sharin no Kuni's twist.)

Corro seeing as you don't seem to mind wading through trash too much considering you played Sakura Spirit (I did too to actually see if there was actually anything notable about it aside from the service.) you could just play Hatoful Boyfriend it to see why people like it. Your words expressing disinterest in it despite owning it just make me think: "Why did you waste your money?" (Not you Jase.)

Well my sale purchases were fueled by gaben cards so it seems like a smart thing to do! I'm broke till the later half of the month so it helped me get a few things I wanted at least.

I think I'm going to do the same. I will still buy bundles but other than that next time I buy something will be the wintersale. Unless Summersale is bloody awesome.^^;

It's gonna be very interesting.

But man, my economy is killing me. Feeling so down about it. :(

Initially, yeah, but after a while they come down to reasonable levels. The bigger issue is that retailers here never run any deals that are comparable to the likes of what Newegg, Amazon, etc. occasionally offer.

That's about the only reason I went with a 290 instead of the 970. Black Friday deals for Red Team parts are very difficult to refuse.

Up to 776 games and a badge level of 94 (total spent on cards ever: less than 25usd). Not bad not bad.

Shame i'll never be able to fill up that friends list =(

Reading Command and Control and I want to blow up Megaton again. Or watch Jericho or HILN.

I'll never understand achievement whores. It's weird.

Huh, seems interesting. I've already read a lot about the issues but I'll pick the book up. It will be nice to see a ordered history instead of dispersed official reports and the odd article.

Jericho's first season was pretty good, but the later seasons were fraught with issues. Some of which I assume were a result of the show not being popular enough.

Speaking of which, I need to get my picture taken for this month's avatar.

With each new picture you look more and more like Momoa as Drogo.

I enjoyed my brief time with Year Walk. It wasn't the revolutionary experience everyone made it out to be, but it's acceptably creepy with great atmosphere.

Lovely Planet will smack you silly with a neon-colored balloon while japanese text pours over you like a waterfall. And you will love every minute of it.

MIND was... well, it's a pretty game for sure. The original script was riddled with 'Dear Esther'-isms, but nowhere near as well written. The VA for the lead was downright awful. Puzzles are barely an obstruction, but they do give you something to occupy yourself with. I've heard the dev recently patched in a re-written script with a lot of the fluff cut out, so it might be much better now. My full thoughts here.

Eidolon was close to making my Game of the Year spot, but be forewarned it is a walking simulator. As in, the entire gameplay loop is walking from spot to spot in a massive map that is an analog for northwestern Washington state. There's some light survival elements which require you to eat, hunt, and sleep. The real star of the show is the gorgeous minimalist environment and the incredibly well-written pieces of civilization left behind. Stuff like online journals, letters written to dead relatives, an ongoing police investigation, among other things. They actually brought on a lot of different writers to contribute as a certain character or theme, so they really do stand out from each other. My full thoughts here.

FRACT OSC... man, what a trip. Truly an interactive Fantasia for the modern age. A living, breathing demoscene tape. The entire world is a giant synthesizer, and you need to solve puzzles to bring the entire machine back online. If you are even slightly a fan of IDM, you need this. As you progress, the machine starts giving you access to a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) back in the main "room" you start the game in. It gives you access to a step sequencer and a whole host of tweaks and tools. Not the most robust tool ever, but an awesome and fun way to get into making music. My full thoughts here.

Hey, thanks for the impressions. I want FRACT OSC and Eidolon, but I have everything else except those and Blue Flamingo, so I might pass on the bundle.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me
My posts tend to go overlooked so it shouldn't surprise me, but I have made a point to try and explain things a bit differently. My last post was a subtle way of me trying to explain what it does without spoiling it. But, sadly, people have a hard time getting past the notions of the inital looks and playful, stereotypical VN script it starts off with. And that makes it very difficult to be sutble and still get the message across.

I once said that Hatoful Boyfriend shouldn't be spoiled before people jump into it, because the surprise is part of what makes it special. But I always see people selling it short, and i'm becoming increasingly aware that I just can't tell people to "Wait for it", because people don't seem to have the patience for it. Chalk it up to me being frustrated with people who dropped a show I was fansubbing last season because it didn't have mind-blowing plot in the first 5 episodes. The show was 3 minutes long per episode. They dropped it and failed to see the good stuff that actually came together within a few weeks, and especially missed out on the ending. People need to put themselves aside once in a while and really give something a chance now and then.

I compare Hatoful Boyfriend to Evangelion and MGS2 frequently because it goes for the ultimate bait-and-switch. What starts off as a goofy game about getting with pigeons eventually becomes a massive deconstruction of the VN genre. Even before the legendary BBL mode, which you unlock by getting a handful of paths completed in the normal game, there are several paths which totally break the illusion and let you in on the fact that something else much larger is afoot.

That being said, it's still pretty "anime" even once the other foot has dropped. So you'd still need a tad bit of tolerance for some of the tropes that will come back. They just won't be related to sexing things. I don't know if I can really convince you, frosty, but I wish I could at least help you understand why people do like it.

The (Verhoeven)Starship Trooper of VN's.
Once you "get" it, it's pretty interesting what it does in terms of upsetting the genre.

Makes sense. Collecting a bunch of useless things is what that whole series is about.

Roughly AUD$2,700 worth of stuff by my count.

Alas my bank account won't allow it.

Wait, you're not a billionaire?

Bought Door Kickers. Way over my meager budget, but... whatever.

I'm currently on level 10 (of 13) on a run of Dungeon of the Endless. I feel pretty secure that I grok the game now and have a good chance of winning most games, though I still have some issues with the display (specifically, enemy count in a room) and some multitasking issues (possibly due to playing on a laptop with no mouse), etc.

Should have a win unless the game jukes me -- it almost did on the level 9, second door had monsters that sprinted past my dudes and took me down to not enough power to light up a single room, but luck was with me and I found the exit five rooms later and managed to salvage the run. Didn't get any more powerful that level, but lived to tell the tale.

I'd be worried that posting this will jinx my run, but I long ago learned that you don't need to worry about stuff like that jinxing a roguelike run, that takes care of itself.
god dammit i forgot to put my gloves back on!

Eh, the seasonal sales were aight, other vendors like Nuveem really picked up on Valve's slack. So far gotten Wargame: Red Dragon, Banner Saga, Xenoanuts, Endless Legend, and Metal Gear Rising: Reverence. Only put in 2-5 hours for each of them... and immediately dropped them for a bloody mod (L'Aigle) for a game where I put in 2800 hours already. Then I spent more time complaining about the mod with some of the lads. Probably gonna do some bug reports for it.. meh.

Cheesecake, your Eidolon review is terrific (as are all of your reviews, for that matter). Thanks.

Anyone vaguely interested in Eidolon, please do yourself a favour and give it a read.

Lol really?
Unless one of my sisters went in and bought some Elle is the only culprit. I'm wondering how she managed to even get a price in the dialog! Well it was just like 20 cents so not much of a problem, but I think i'll throw the wacom tablet on my laptop keyboard next time I go to make dinner.

Since Aliens vs. Predator (2010) got removed from the Steam store, I went ahead and bought it on Nuuvem.com.br for $1.35 USD. Activated no problem with no region lock or whatever.

What is a holiday card worth? I could get my first in the next purchase.

$0.06-0.10, more if it's a foil.
