Now this is something that would be unexpected, but a Reddit user had the good idea to ask a Petroglyph dev on the possibility of a sequel since Star Wars isn't tied to EA anymore. And the answer is quite interesting:

As you can see, there has been at least some discussion about it. As reported in Reddit, this is pretty big since around 100 days ago he said that EA and Disney were not contacting them back:

Now that Lucasfilm Games has say over who makes what, they don’t need to worry about EA.

Hopefully the RTS remasters have been successful and this gets some traction, would love to play a sequel. The game still holds up pretty well.

But what we really need is Rebellion 2.

I still want a Total Star Wars, empire at war is great but it really needs a remaster or remake at this point
