The game isn't being made with longevity as the main focus, which is doomed when we're talking about GAAS. One tier layered gameplay system, boring repeated missions, bugs, exclusive shit, controversial story, and now CLOSE TO NO NEW CONTENT AT ALL. Absolutely deserved.

Funny to see the usual toxic, cancerous prattle about Sony or Microsoft buying this or that. That Bethesda thing really made many objectively dumber, it seems. So many people are so eager to prevent millions of othlike thier gamers from playing the games they want, it seems.
I don't really give a damn about the avengers, but a lot of fans would prefer having someone like insomniac making good high budget superheroes games instead of wasting times and money with third party games like avengers.

It's not a matter of having exclusives, it's a matter of having good games, it's just a case if some studious very good with open worlds games and narrative driven games are under sony.

I'm a fan of dishonored and i want the third game being made by the same team who made the first 2 even if there is a chance of being xbox exclusive, is it selfish? Sure, do i give a fuck? No, i only care for a good sequel.

That's an absolutely silly take. I'm absolutely not a fan of GAAS (besides for MMORPGs), but it can work with literally ANY franchise. All it takes is for the game to be good, wich Genshin Impact is, and Avengers isn't.

GAAS isn't going anywhere, whether we like it or not. May as well get used to the idea.

For someone whos not a fan of GAAS you sure do sound like one. No, it does not work with any game, nor should it.

Only made it as far as the part where you are trying to find the secret mutant base in the desert. Awful game.

I don't know how much Spiderman sold around this time.

But a bunch of old Mario games by Nintendo sold nearly twice that amount. And i doubt Mario is as big as The Avengers IP

You don't need a game to be made by a first-party studio for it to be a "good high budget superheroes game." Third-party studios make plenty of awesome games.

For someone whos not a fan of GAAS you sure do sound like one. No, it does not work with any game, nor should it.

Are you able to respond to what people actually say or you actually need to distort it? I did not say that it works with any game. I said it works with any franchise. And it does. It's different, and what you just did is called a strawman.

One doesn't need to be a fan of GAAS to know that they're not going anywhere. Publishers love consistent streams of revenue.

In the gaming space, Mario is a way bigger IP than Avengers. Spider-Man is the best selling super-hero game of all time, and that topped out around 15 million copies. Mario games routinely sell far better than that.

Tons of people online give 343 a lot of crap for how their staff isn't the problem but instead it's the management holding the studio back. I'd make the argument this is even more apparent at SE, and has been for years.

No company in gaming would benefit more from an injection of new talent in upper management than SE.
Finally - a good take in this thread! You are absolutely 100% correct.
As much as I love some of SE's output, the management is a goddamn mess in so many ways. Nier Automata's PC version was never fixed, for instance, but they have no problem parading it around and throwing up sales for every Nier-related event. VII Remake is a polarizing mess. Most recently, they made the decision to port the SWITCH version of DQXI to other platforms... what the actual fuck??
Also, their cash cow, FFXIV is in a bit of shambles right now for many long-time players. Even before COVID, the content for their most recent expansion has been anemic at best, but since it's the most critically acclaimed story for the game (YMMV on how good it actually is), they just sweep the complaints under the rug. They implemented two new races with the new expansion but they're technically not even done yet, for instance.

It's very frustrating being a Final Fantasy fan these days, let alone any of their other IPs.

This is what out of touch executives running the show looks like.

Every year Square makes some of the dumbest decisions in the entire video game industry and somehow they haven't gone out of business yet.

Franchise, games, whatever you want to call them, it still does not work nor should it. I know theyre not going anywhere, I mean, its the publishers and corporations main income. They'd be stupid to let them go because they know people are idiots and will buy anything. GI is the perfect example for that but Avengers was not. That game was marketed completely different than what we got. Sony Exclusives also don't need gaas shit to sell butt loads. My point is, fuck GaaS but I can't do shit about it. Seems like Belgium had the balls to fuck Fifa and hopefully this is the beginning of the end for all franchises or games.

It's not only a matter of budget, some devs are better at certain things, insomniac and sucker punch have great experiences with superhero or wacky open world games so a lot of avengers fans want their games developed by them.

My example with dishonored was pretty clear, the old devs have less budget than activision or sony but do i want a dishonored 3 from anyone other than arkane? Fuck no.

Not saying that third party devs can't do a great job, some of my goty for this gen were third party games, i was just vocalizing what a lot of people think, like i said, i don't care for the avengers brand.

I wonder how much blame Marvel should get for this dud of a game. I know Capcom had problems with MVCI so i am willing to bet Marvel shares some of the blame as well

There's a massive difference between a franchise and a game.

A franchise simply defines a setting and its characters. A game includes genre, gameplay, and more.

GAAS can absolutely work whatever setting, characters, and story you throw at it (Franchise). It certainly wouldn't work with all kinds of gameplay and genres (game).

You're accusing me of bias, but from your posts, you're the one looking at this with a biased eye.

The fact that a lot of people think that more third-party content and developers should be bought by first parties, effectively making it less available to other gamers, is exactly the problem.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

They really expected something better? C'mon now. You could've seen what this game will turn out to be a mile away and especially after playing beta.

Well, when you take a property like Avengers, and do literally EVERYTHING the opposite of what players want, you can’t expect it to sell.

Here's my take, GAAS are starting to wind down because they flooded the market too much with these games, remember when Overwatch came out and there was a flood of hero shooters in a short time frame who died and now the last two big ones (OW and Paladins) have barely any user increase (if not, decrease), even Genshin Impact is starting to lose the attention. It doesn't help that Avengers is a paid 7/10 GAAS game filled with microtransactions, at one point people may question that they are under delivering and doing just for cashgrab.

I'm not sure if I could be correct on the the timeframe compared to previous titles, but sports games are only in the top 10 chart of amazon because they are being sold at half of the price already.

The current industry is led into a dopamine rush with speculation economy.

What the fuck are you even talking about anymore. Games as a service are literally GAMES. Your wording of GAAS can work with any franchise by any fucking logic, sounds like you're saying gaming franchise which is again, a set of multiple games set in the same name/universe/whatever. What you're telling me is that what you actually wanted to say is that GAMES as a service can work with any fictional commercialized characters or names? I'm not brightest lad but how what? We are talking about games and gaas, nothing else. No, gaas should not work with any fictional setting, character, etc. because they're not games lmao.

One. Chill.

Two. GAAS can work with any franchise. IE: They can work with any setting/characters/story. That's what a franchise is.

A franchise isn't just a set of specific games. It's much wider than that. It's almost like you think the Avengers movies, comics, and such aren't part of the franchise because they're not games.

What defines the Avengers franchise as a franchise isn't its games. It's its characters, its setting, its storytelling, which can absolutely work with GAAS, like every franchise on earth.

This is what you get!

You cant take such a beloved franchise and turn it into one of the most uninspired pieces of drivel and get away with it.

I dont know if this game can be saved but they should atleast try break even then let the dev team move on to something else.

I dont think the dev team is utterly trash I think leadership just wasnt there.

While I doubt a Mario Cinematic Universe would be remotely anywhere as big or popular as MCU, you cannot directly compare the IP as they are not directly comparable. Both are recognizable brands that have different values in different mindshares in popular culture. In Gaming, few brands are bigger than Mario. It's synonymous with Video Games. Its a completely different playing field, the same way it would be for Mario in the cinemas or comics.

Gaas can work with Colgate or McDonalds. Gotcha dude. It makes much more sense now.

Funny how some charlatans report only the bad/controversial part of the news.

For the record, Square Enix reported strong financial results across the board, with all income/profit numbers up. Avengers may have gone below expectations, but everything else did well, including FFVII Remake, catalog repeat sales, FFXIV subscriber numbers are on the rise, mobile is doing great, and so forth.
It's a tweet talking about Marvel Avengers specifically, not the SE catalog.

Yes, and as I mentioned, I find it funny that the person in question thought to tweet only about that, ignoring the fact that SE has reported great results overall.

Too bad the blame and financial damage will undoubtedly fall 99% on the developers and 1% on the bean counting millionaires who forced the studio to abandon their own IP to make the game
