Some PS4 games suffer from graphical glitchs on PS5

Its pretty stupid compare PS3 and PS4 BC. PS3 is a hell to emulate. People saying there are emulators on "PC", is right and wrong. There are much bugs and problems with PS3 emulation on PC, you need a machine with 5ghz CPU.

Sony wouldn't release a broken emulation. If Sony will let that BC in the future, will be with curated games like MS did. I could see PSNow games locally emulated in the future, but I wouldn't expect you insert any disk from PS3 you have.
Who comparing it to PS4->PS3 BC? I know it's impossible, because of architectural differences.
Thing is that PS5 will not require emulation to run PS4 games. You just need to test/change some settings (higher resolution, unlock frame-rate if possible) then test it with these settings. However it has its cost too. MS are paying for BC, because it always had problems with good exclusives.

Ubisoft game? You don't say... and what about the other side, the massive stutter and crashes? :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

3 whole games? Remember that they are being patched on XSX and on PS5 it's just running out of the box.
So this is actually impressive.

Disappointing if you were hoping to swap out your 4 for a 5 and continue your backlog. Not fantastic from Sony to not be transparent about this when they put warnings on the games themselves (unless they were and I missed it).

I’d be more disappointed if this were Xbox, because that’s exactly what they want to ensure for their player base. They put time and effort in to not only ensure compatibility but to also enhance old games, whereas it seems that Sony just tested each one, decided if it worked or not and moved on.

Been an issue since PS1->PS2 compatibility. At least this time around it can be patched. They'll totally go back and patch em, right? Right?!

DF failed to mention this?

Puts things into perspective when ACG said reviewers told him he shouldn't report issues.

Tell me more about how good bc are on ps4,cus it went over my head.

Let's be real. We're not talking about PS4. There'd probably be no Xbox backwards compatibility without playstation. And you'd have to be willfully ignorant to dismiss the architectural differences that make ps3 so hard to emulate and the architectural similarities that made Xbox emulation relatively easy.

Ubisoft initially said some of their games wouldn't even run. They were clearly wrong. Work needs doing to ensure bug free operation but this isn't a failure on Sonys part.

I'm not even a Sony apologist but this seems a silly thing to be arguing about. Buggy performance is a whole different story from not working at all.

A question. Why wouldn't Microsoft make bc if it wasn't for Sony? Didn't know Microsoft purchased this technology from Sony.

Let's be real. If it wasn't for pc Sony wouldn't have bc. You can still play old games all the way back to Windows 95 on pc.

PS2 did play PS1 games though. PS3 had full hardware support for PS2 at launch (which was later changed to software emulation - not surprising, the first model bled money for Sony so hard it damn near bankrupted the whole company). PS4 is the first Sony console not to offer BC (and when it comes to PS3, understandably - the Cell was and is a complete bitch to emulate, and to program for). But sure, it's PC.

PC and Xbox has no problems with older games. Is it acceptable that Sony can't get it right as well?
I remember Microsoft had problems with some backwards compatible games when it first implimented them on Xbox one, It took a lot of work to get to where they are right now. I think a couple of small bugs with 99% of PS4 games is pretty good work. I was expecting a lot less compatibility when they first mentioned it earlier in the year.

Ah ok I see now. I assume we're both adults here. You can do better than pose a dumb "gotcha" question to prove your point. Were talking ps5 and you bring up ps4. I mention Sonys history and you bring up pc. There's no point arguing with you when you aren't willing to have a genuine conversation.

We both know why Microsoft likely wouldn't have bothered with backward compatibility if not for Sony. You don't have to admit it.

Cheers.

These seem like minor issues that could be easily patched. I'm guessing they won't be in lieu of some sort of enhanced version complete with a fee or something. What's hilarious is the report that The Last Guardian runs at 60FPS fresh off the disc, but if you install the post-release patch it gets capped at 30...think they'll patch that patch? Kinda doubt it...glad I have it on disc.

So Sony aren't capable of doing proper bc like the competitors.

Hopefully they get it right.

What the fuck does a Karen have to do with anything are you five years old or something?

If i remember rightly, the xbox one had a bunch of issues with old bc games like this at launch, some of them still do to this day

I'd give it more than a day before going full Karen on Sony tbh

Like I said going back to old games to fix them isn't worth it in their eyes. This industry is about $€¥ not heritage.
And lets be honest barely anyone is going to play Last Guardian on PS5.

True, I'm probably one of the rare few that was anticipating it for like a decade and gave up due to initial performance, thinking I'd get a PS4 Pro eventually but never did. Now I'll just play it on PS5 unpatched.

I disagree. Like with steam on PC, consoles are all about digital games now, meaning selling old games for years and years to come, no need to drop them in order to print the new stuff anymore. It's great profit in the long run for a product you've already made and it's just sitting there, free money so to speak. Publishers/developers have every reason to go back and patch games to at least work. Announcing a next-gen patch/version of your game is also great publicity for minimal cost, which is why we see so many older games trying to get some attention. Everyone wants that spotlight back on them and a patch is a very small price to pay.
