So, where the hell is the NEW Nintendo Switch?

I'm not trying to be shady at all, but I didn't see anything worth a "Switch Pro" update in their last direct.
Even their big games for this holidays, Pokemon D/P, don't look like they need a Pro to run.

My guess is either a reveal in Sep/Oct with a release in December. Or they wait till 2022 to release it in March, around the same time of the year the Switch released in 2017. Maybe they want to make sure enough units are ready for store shelves by the time preorders start?

I'm surprised that it wasn't announced actually, all the leaks were leading to it

I think at this point Nintendo may be looking at a successor rather than a upgrade, that being said, some of the Switch games shown this week looked a little too good for Switch, Mario + Rabbids in particular

Well the current console is selling great so I don't think they're in any hurry. Plus with the parts shortages it may be more difficult to manufacture the new hardware instead of sticking with what they've got (that's just my guess though).

If (according to the rumours which could be bollocks) it isn't launching until September, it wouldn't be crazy for them to reveal it sometime in late July/August so that they can be after the Playstation event (which I assume will be soon-ish). Wouldn't want all the hype for Switch Pro to be gobbled up by Sony properly revealing the next-gen Playstation VR or something.

It's an odd one. All these 'leakers' saying there's a new switch on the verge of being announced etc. Nintendo was probably looking at all that stuff and sweating slightly, knowing they either don't have or have no intention of announcing anything, but then feeling the heat of a backlash from expectant fans on the Internet when something they never announced in the first place...doesnt get announced. Such a strange situation. There should be a new terminology coined for such a phenomenon.

YOU create fake hype about something WE never announced, and when WE don't announce said product, YOU get annoyed. Vapornouncement? Expectancy Fallacy? Hype train Derailment? Hmm.

Hardware is never announced 1 or 2 weeks before launch, ussually months before. Full Ps5 specs were given 8 months before launch. This is actually late if they are launching this Sept.
Nintendo does things differently. I believe.they are looking at it as just a revision, so I don't expect them to announce it until August, July at the earliest.

On one hand, no news so that sucks... On the other hand, maybe no news means they will actually wait a year or two to create an actual Switch successor instead of a intermediate Switch Pro ? Which would be even better as far as I'm concerned. Not interested in a "New 3DS" situation.

This is just speculation on my part of course, but i believe the Switch pro is real, Nintendo does NOT benefit in any way by revealing it early, and slowing the current Switch sales, when they finally show it will be much closer to release and could be their hot holiday item

Honestly, this has disappointed me a lot. They basically said we haven't worked on anything Zelda related for its anniversary, so take this no effort thing instead. I'd have liked this item as a nice little bonus.

Seriously how hard is it to work on ports? At least give people a collection of the 3ds games, or all the nes/SNES/GBA games on a cart.

While I enjoy watching the "insiders" and "leakers" squirm, perhaps a bit of devil's advocate is in order.
We do have an ongoing chip-shortage that'll remain till next year or even longer. Nintendo might have decided it's not worth introducing new hardware in such conditions.

For some perspective, the Famicon Disk System was a product of a similar crisis.

Nintendo’s announcements yesterday for the rest of the year (2D Metroid, Wario Ware, Advance Wars) all looked to come from the handheld lineage. Five years ago they’d have all gone to 3DS over Wii U. They’re not Switch Pro showcases by any means.

Then they proudly showed No More Heroes 3 in all its Wii-esque skank. The most visually advanced game shown was Guardians of the Galaxy which is a cloud game on Switch.

So yeah, I think we’ve got to accept that Nintendo has all but told us that upgraded hardware isn’t coming in 2021.

That said, Pokemon is coming in January. Releasing the Pro alongside that would make sense but releasing hardware in January wouldn’t.

Nintendo should just make a next gen system at this point, then bundle botw 1 and 2 in 4k/60fps. I'll be all over it day one.

Lmao it’s just a rumor pushed by “insiders” to get free follows, views, clicks, and retweets from you all.

Nintendo don’t give a damn about power when the games are printing money. Please stop worrying yourselves over this

If production is starting just next month, they won't release before November 2021.
Might even be as late as March 2022.

Or it's all wrong and it won't release before end of 2022

Are the sales declining? If yes, they will announce or release it soon as well as a price drop for regular model.

If not, not gonna happen yet.

That's how it works.

I don't think leakers were lying, I think they were telling the truth from what they heard.
But they've been fed bullshit.

I have no doubt that Nintendo was making prototypes of a Switch Pro just like they were with a Wii HD but it has no intention of being release or it was shit canned.Someone probably caught wind of this and leaked that part of the information.

Nintendo are selling enough of their mainline console to warrant a Switch Pro, Plus they even have the Switch Lite.

They should focus on a successor to the Switch, not a minimal upgrade.
I think it's embarassing that news outlets like Eurogamer KEEP FALLING FOR THIS SHIT

You will fucking wait. No whining.

And when it gets released, you will fucking buy it.

If it's vaporware, you will accept it and you will prefer it.

Universal truths. As a fanboy this is how it's always been and how it will always be. Embrace what you're given, ask for no more and no less.

The announcement window is between tomorrow and 3 years into the future. My uncle who works at Nintendo told me so.

Or they release a successor to Switch next year and release BOTW2 on 2 different Nintendo systems together.
They did with Twilight Princess and the original Breath of the Wild.

Or

They release a successor to the Switch and it has a boost mode that's able to play BOTW faster better than the OG Switch using the same cartidge.

Knowing Nintendo they'll do option 1.

Outlook still not so good for buying an OG Switch right now

i think it'll be out in time for Pokemon Arceus or BOTW2. if BOTW2 doesn't release in 2022 with Switch Pro then it'll likely launch with Switch 2 in 2023.

or maybe the Switch Pro is really the Switch 2. I mean, does Nintendo need to really go out and create a totally different console again? We had the Wii U, Wii, GameCube, N64, etc. Keep it simple and just make the Switch 2 like how we got a Playstation 2. The Switch is a huge success so I think Nintendo would be stupid to ditch Switch.

A refined Switch hybrid console is all they need to do. Put in a better display, CPU/GPU, more RAM, and DLSS support and that's good enough to be considered a Switch 2. It would of course be backwards compatible but there will be exclusive Switch 2 games.

Weren't Sony selling enough PS4s and MS XOne when they launched PS4 Pro and XSX? I'm so tired of this idiotic argument.

The breath of the wild trailer didn't even look that special. Pretty sure that was on regular Switch hardware, too. Switch Pro is a bullshit lie that's been going for almost 3 years now

Nintendo couldn’t get anything done for 2021. We know the switch isn’t the greatest hardware and yet many will buy it just for BOTW2 only to be presented a new next gen console like the original breath of the wild and the Wii U transition to Switch.

I said this in another thread a while back, but I believe all those leakers and insiders got their information mixed up. It‘s quite possible that there will be a new Switch model in the near future, but it will just be a minor revision with a bigger screen, slightly higher clocks and better battery life that‘s cheaper to produce and is going to replace the current Switch model (the Lite probably remains though).

However, in addition to that Nintendo is most likely also already working on new, more powerful hardware – but it‘s a proper Switch successor, not just a ‚Pro‘ revision. It‘s entirely possible that Nintendo has already sent out devkits to select 3rd party developers, and that these are the source for all these ‚Switch Pro‘ rumors. Those insiders probably heard that Nintendo intends to release a new Switch revision, and also that they‘ve sent out new, powerful devkits to developers, and then assumed those two pieces of info were about the same thing. This would explain why Bloomberg for example claimed that the Switch Pro is supposed to be comparable to the PS4 Pro or even XBoneX; this sounds highly unlikely for a mere mid-gen upgrade from Nintendo, but less unlikely if we‘re talking about an actual Switch successor.

The Switch revision could still come this year; if it‘s really just a minor spec-bump then it makes sense to reveal it closer to release. The actual Switch successor though will probably launch sometime within the next two years; maybe spring 2023, six years after the Switch (giving the Switch the same lifespan as the DS). I seriously doubt Nintendo is going to wait until 2024 or 2025 or whatever; just because the Switch is doing well now doesn‘t mean it will still be two years from now. The Wii looked unstoppable too, until it completely nosedived in its last few years, something Nintendo is very much aware of. (And I totally expect BotW 2 to be a launch title for this new system.)

Nobody freaking knows. I wish I had a dollar for every incorrect rumor/speculation I’ve read about Nintendo.

Nintendo does their own thing. They don’t care what the rest of the industry does. Their past behavior is not a predictor of their future behavior. The logic behind their decisions is convoluted or nonexistent.

Pretty much nobody successfully predicted anything Nintendo-related for the last 20 years. The more confident someone is with their Nintendo prediction , the more you know they’re full of shit.

Well I didnt even notice that, so good on you. Still not called Metroid 4. Its called Metroid Fusion and thats what most people know it as and played it as.

Anyway it was pretty obvious I meant Metroid prime 4 as we’re talking about something that is in development not something that is already released.

They’ll milk the current switch as much as possible and I bet the new switch will be a very minor upgrade. I’ve been laughing for months with people talking about 4K, DLSS, OLED… People believe in the most fucked up rumours. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it reaches PS4 vanilla graphic levels.

Many of these reporters are the same guys who believed the NX (the Switch's codename) would be a powerful console, not a CHH. In hindsight, it's laughable.
