So what happened to that #FucKonami movement?

Yes, I remember it well. Fat, greasy, B.O. wafting nerds taking to the streets shouting "FUCK KONAMI" and that classic call and response "What do we want?" "Kojima's jizz!" "Where do we want it?" "In our mouths!" The marches were only stalled when the occasional badly dressed fat fuck's pants fell off, displaying a skidmarked pair of skivvies that had likely never been washed. They burned down the mom n' pop game stores. They busted the windows out of Game Stops. They stormed the Walmarts, but invariably got distracted by the 32 can cases of Mountain Dew on sale. The revolution wasn't televised, you had to be there to see it in person, and hope the smell of jizz stained unwashed jeans didn't choke consciousness away from you.
LOL yup. “Movement” nowadays = people complaining about something on the internet + making no other change to their behavior.

Reminds me way back in the day there was a Steam group for boycotting some CoD game (Black Ops maybe?) due to its lack of dedicated servers. Then on launch day like 50% of the people in that group were playing it.

I'm glad its fizzled out. It was kind of a precursor to the divisions and cancel culture that's morphed into our current world climate. No mercy, no forgiveness, no chance at redemption. Just gratuitous defamation and name calling against the brunt of one group's grudge and any dissenters who might take a more nuanced stance saying "hey wait a minute, its not all bad". A lot of it seemed predicated and kept afloat by pundits and Influencers who needed another boogeyman to rile up their audience with. Much of that same demographic wouldn't play Konami titles and in my opinion is linked to certain types of people that war and complain about games, always having something to say but seem to rarely actually play videogames.

I get it, sometimes companies(and other entities) act in ways that seem offensive or insulting to us the people who consume their products or are affected by their decisions, but I feel a more civilized society would give anyone a reasonable modicum of chance to turn things around. Now I get it, Konami is a storied name in the industry. But they also have a long history of treating their employees like crap. I hope they turn it around I really do, and honestly I've really enjoyed their recent collections with TMNT being a day 1 purchase for me easily. I'd love to see a return to current gen gaming by them as they often bring some very unique ideas and stories to their games. If they can rekindle that flame I'd be content.

It was never a movement. It was a bunch of people on the internet who just agreed with each other. Konami pulling most of their resources out of gaming, treating employees like shit, including Kojima. Pulling P.T with aggression. Yeah. Fuck Konami.

They are getting back on the industry NOW after what? 8 years?

And even then, its mostly made up of ports/retro collections(so zero risks involved, since its when the games were made when Konami was considered one of the best devs in the industry) or cheap remakes.

I do hope they 100% come back, and while this is better than nothing, its too soon to say they are actually interested in gaming again.
They never left in the first place, just that instead of the classic IPs the west have known them for they focus on baseball, yugioh, football and rhythm games.

I don't know about any "movement," but Konami has been glorious to us retro fans in the past couple of years:

- Konami Arcade Classics
- Contra Collection
- Castlevania Collection
- Castlevania Advance Collection
- Castlevania Requiem Collection (PS4 only)
- Upcoming Ninja Turtles collection

Except for the Requiem Collection which is (at the moment... maybe forever?) a PS4 exclusive, all other collections are available on all modern platforms. I own them all on PC and they're absolutely great. Various screen aspect ratio options, scanlines, toggle between US and Japanese versions (and in the case of Contra, even the European "Probotector" variants), and good control options and control response.

Konami (especially their 16-bit era output) is third only to Capcom and Nintendo for me, so I never had major beef with them.

Now if they PROPERLY remaster the Silent Hill games and release those, then they would surpass even Nintendo for me personally.

So people gonna boycott Silent Hill if it is really in development for Playstation or no?

It got replaced by Fuck Jim Ryan movement by the fine folks of Ree.

Speaking of which, is Era that powerful to cancel Jim Ryan and get him fired? Somehow I doubt that.

PES is dead, the baseball game is exclusive to Japan, and Yu gi oh we get once every, what? 4 years?

Yeah, they left. But we will see, seems that they are outsourcing Silent Hill at least. The next few years we will see if they are actually willing to come back, or just milk their old games.

Currently angry at Square enix for selling Tomb Raider for a reasonable price. Everything must be unreasonable and unrealistic at all times or rage.

Normally an anti-game studio movement is about boycotting a studio's products.

But Konami didn't "make games we didn't like", Konami outright stopped making games. Yes, they technically still do, but of such a small quantity that you might as well compare them to Atari.

There was simply nothing to boycott. People who want to play gambling games are not the kind to care about old gaming franchisees being killed off. Konami got richer while gamers are annoyed but with no real way to hurt Konami.

Sure, you can argue that we should "boycott" new Silent Hill, but isn't the whole point of the anti-Konami movement, wanting more games made? So there is no point boycotting stuff we actually WANT, that is stupid.

I still remember years ago people were having some movement over boycotting Konami because they fired Hideo Kojima. They swear they will never buy another Konami products again or something.
But it seems to have entirely disappear now. Konami / Silent Hill threads no longer have any FucKonami post at all, despite the sentiment that they no longer make any good games and has went all Pachinko in Konami profit threads
not sure what you were thinking or doing back then, but it was no movement.
i know about fuckkonami but it is equally #fuckkojima. but "gamers" are stupid enough to buy this shit. kojima took too long to create games, konami is also the bad guy for milking kojima with MGS.

konami has vanished into thin air before kojima left.

konamis legacy is great, but the last contra game sucked and getsufumaden for switch is atm taking my time. i love this game and i was super surprised that this was actually done by konami

Movement? I have no problem buying Konami games. The problem is that Konami isn't really making games worth buying, IMHO. I bought some of their retro collections on Switch and that's it.

Even if we pretend eFootball is really dead (it's not) and don't exist, PES2018 still alive and kicking as a service game. One franchise getting games every few years gap sounds normal to me. There are also many developers that don't publish their games worldwide, guess they never entered the industry.

The fact is after all the FYK talk year after year they make records profits of which the majority are from games that most mainstream western gamers don't care about.

If Nintendo shut down all their game studios and became a company focus exclusively on ramen noodles, then it doesn't matter that they made the best damn noodles in the world; the gamers would still complain that they lost Nintendo games forever.

We are complaining about the old IPs that we lost, it doesn't matter that Konami is making money hand over fist on some other product that we don't care about.

As far as I know, their record profits come from everything except gaming lol.

But sure, keep living in that fantasy of yours.

Pretty sure almost all were backing Kojima back then. Yes there is.

Well... the last Konami game that I got was MGS5. So... #Fuckonami.

But they still make games?

It was a ridiculous boycott from people who were secretly buying their games anyway. Modern Konami suck ass but their retro collections lately have been excellent. Castlevania, Contra and Turtles collection is totally worth it. Konami have an awesome legacy so I will always have a soft spot for them. I'm crossing my fingers for a proper Suikoden collection too, that would be sweet as fuck.

I won't be supporting any future projects because they absolutely fucked the Zone of the Enders HD collection, and in turn cancelled the Enders Project because of its poor sales. They eventually did release a patch for The Second Runner in the ZOE HD pack a year later... only on PS3. So if you had the 360 version, well Konami just said "lol, enjoy your sub 20fps."

>What happened to the fuck Konami movement?

We won. Konami is kill. Rumor is Sony is dabbing on their legacy by hiring Bloober to remake their shit. I can think of no greater insult or coffin nail.

To be honest, Konami has been dead to me (in terms of making new games) for many years now... due to the lack of their "meaningful" output.
Treasure is the same way. They've been dormant for such long time, I think their meaningful production days are done and over.

So... yeah. At this point, I don't give a F. That's actually worse than giving a F about it.

Wrong analogy. In Konami's case it's Nintendo abandoning Mario and start making military shooters.

Digital Entertainment is the actual games segment, Amusement is pachinko, Gaming & Systems is cabinets like slot machines and casino management systems. Profits from games always account for like at least 80% of the group in recent years.
Because that division includes everything and anything. It ranges from esports to mobile. So yeah, Konami does well with mobile, but who considers that "gaming" nowadays, considering how trash mobile is?

Plus, Konami got lucky and had a hit in their hands, which was the momotaru game(another japanese exclusive) that boosted those numbers.

This all correlates to what I have been saying:Konsmi left the market for about 7-8 years, and its now dipping their toes again. They got lucky and got a hit out of the gate, with Momotaru, and Bomberman R was also a surprise hit for them. But they are a far cry to what thry once were. And we still need to see if they are really putting both feet in, and if they will be back for good.

This is where the disagreement lies, while I don't give a shit about candy crush King is still part of the game industry.

Momotetsu despite its success is still <10% of their gaming revenue with three million units, Bomberman R is even smaller.

And that's where our difference lies: While yes, mobile is tecnically part of gaming, I believe you will have a hard time finding someone that cares about it, and even less someone to cares to include it as a serious argument as to why Konami hasn't left the games industry all this time.

So yeah, considering that they have abandoned gaming and maintained only the most cynical, money-draining and "savage capitalistic" part of that, which mobile with all of its gacha/microtransactions/predatory monatory practices is, and none of the fun/immersion/innovation that games are known for, its the exact same as saying that Konami has stopped making games for the last 8 years.
