So I finally bought Nintendo Switch - what games should I play first?

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Aside from those already posted, I would add Zelda: Link's Awakening, and Hollow Knight if you haven't played it already, as it's great on a handheld.

SMT V is amazing too, but only if you are into JRPGs.

luigi's mansion 3
super mario maker 2
metroid dread
deadly premonition 1+2
kirby
mario+rabbids

indies:

cat quest 1+2
deadcells
hades
hollow knight

Just from the top of my head Luigi’s Mansion, DKC: Tropical Freeze and Metroid Dread are all fantastic.

Splatoon is a great series as well, although I’d probably wait until Splatoon 3 if you’re interested in that.

There’s loads more though, you should probably just go to Metacritic and check the Switch top 100 and you’ll find 90% of the games people will recommend here.

BOTW and Odyssey should keep you busy for 150 hours if you really dive into those games so, don't buy too many in advance.

I just played 13 Sentinels on my Steam Deck and I had a reasonably good time with it.

And if you are wondering why that's relevant, it was on a Switch emulator (Yuzu).

P.S. Also, same story goes for Metroid Dread.

Smash Ultimate, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart 8 are the three other huge games "everyone" got.

There a lot of great Switch exclusives, off the top of my head:
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem
Mario + Rabbids
Metroid Dread
Mario Maker 2
Astral Chain
Link's Awakening
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pikmin 3 Deluxe
Shin Megami Tensei V

The 5 must own games IMO are BOTW, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Smash Ultimate and Mario Odyssey.

If you don’t own an Xbox or PC you have to buy the two Ori games.

Oh and Dread. Get Dread. There’s loads of other great games suggested here too.

Xenoblade chronicles 1 remake, then 2, torna and then 3, unless you already beat it on wii/ds, then you can skip to 2.
Metroid dread as some recomended and Astral chain as well, think that covers the best stuff thats mostly just on switch.

If you have someone to play with, Mario Kart 8. Fun as hell. Sure, there's also online MP, but it's so much better as a couch MP game. As a single player game it sucks.

Super Mario 3D World. It's better than Odyssey, and the Bowser's Fury bonus game is also really neat.

GAF's very own treasure goblin
Congratulations!
I got my Switch Oled about 6 months ago and having fun with Mario Kart 8, Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest but really just check out Youtube reviews on genres you enjoy.

Star Wars Pinball. It's a showcase for Switch's HD rumble. You can feel the spinners spin as you crash over them, you feel the ball as it slides along the rails, the subtle taps of the flippers. Comes with 19 tables. Good games too.

Smash Ultimate
Mario Kart 8
Bowsers Fury
Mario Maker 2
DKC Tropical Freeze
Yoshis Crafted World (easy, but really cool design and lots of hidden stuff

Anything Nintendo exclusive. More so because if there’s a version of a game on switch it would better to just get it on a more powerful console or a PC. I like my switch but all the multiplats on it run like shit, either graphically, performance (fps), or both.

If you haven’t yet played it, Hades runs great on Switch would recommend.

Fire Emblem 3 Houses and 3 Hopes (if you’re into Musou/Warriors games)

Monster Hunter Rise (new expansion comes out soon so maybe wait for that)

Diablo 3 :lollipop_horns:

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Breath of the wild and both remasters are must haves owning a switch makes you have better stuff than the Wii U.
