SIlicon Lottery (CPU vendor) to shut down

silicon lottery was a website that sold delidded and pre-binned CPUs. for example, if you wanted an 8700k that would do 5.3ghz (the best any could realistically do), SL would guarantee this... for a price

now their website says they will be shutting down at the end of october, and until then they're only selling delidding services.

they stated the reasons for this include the global chip shortage, manufacturers leaving less overclocking headroom, and intel using proper TIM instead of toothpaste again

yeah, maybe. it's a big loss though, they provided a lot of good data to the community about what percentage of each cpu goes in which bin. i don't see how overclocking statistics will be compiled now, relying on self-reporting is not an alternative
