Silent Hill 2 remake has reached the late stage of production – development has been underway since 2019

Remember when Druckmann and company said they wanted to create a game (TLoU2) that wasn't "fun" (mainly talking about the story beats and dread as you play)?

SH2 was one of those games that wasn't "fun," but it sunk it's hooks into you to push through till the end. There was nothing "fun" at all about SH2, and it's one of the greatest games ever made that helped define the survival horror genre.

Playing the original legally and at a decent quality is getting a bit difficult for many… the HD collection was a major screwup…
Yeah, to be fair, I just kept my original versions, so I haven't kept up with the appearances. The HD Collection was the biggest POS, lol. It just sucks that buying 2 or 3 on PC is impossible ATM. At least The Room was put on GOG not long ago, I'd imagine 2 and 3 will make their way at some point. At least I'd hope so.

SH2 Enhanced Edition is incredible, so I'd hope everyone is able to check that out one way or another.

Yeah… big IF… :/… and then what about SH1 and SH3 though?
There are enhanced patches for 3 as well on the PC. I have both SH2 and 3 installed.

As for SH1, I just play the OG on my PS3 still. Waiting for it to be added to PS5 with trophy support. Would make logical sense to have that launch just around the time this one is ready to drop.

Loved the look of this remake. But Silent Hill 2 is such a different beast to other remakes of the past or today that any stumbling of the story or characters could completely ruin the original experience the original devs intended.

Still, I am cautiously optimist that they produce something close to the magic of the original, whilst fixing some of its control issues and updating that aspect for modern audiences.

Looks much better then original. I hope they remake Silent Hill 1 and 3 next

Bro what a fucking game this was BTW, remind me at the time where we would be sitting all there with friends talking about this game for a while for many days. When games are about true ART AND PASSION.

Hopefully Bloopers will be respectful and delivers to remaking this timeless masterpeice, can't wait.

The art direction is already too clean.
We only got like 2-3 directly comparable shots in the trailer and those look comparable - but they're all outdoors, where SH2 was never 'that' dirty.
The indoor cuts in the trailer show nothing from similar angles so it's really hard to tell anything.

I will agree though - that the trailer completely misses the film-grain, and while SH2 cleverly used that to hide asset resolution in places, it also was an integral part of its visual make-up, and turning it off, even original art-direction loses a fair bit 'in translation'.

Going by their track record since 2019, they'd released Layers of Fear 2, Blair Witch and The Medium. All games that got around 60-70 MC ratings. Temper your expectations how good a Bloober game will be.

Their games often have decent creepy trailers, but the core gameplay when reviewed is meh and janky. On the plus side they got a highly rated established game to use as a template so it should be easier to copy and improve upon vs. create from scratch.
My expectations are indeed in check and one thing that gives me solace is that there is no way in hell that it'll be worse than Shattered Memories.

Not sure if you're a fan but I honestly have no clue how anyone can say anything positive about that game. It's like the worst elements of walking simulators cranked to 11.

So the consensus it Silent Hill 2 R is going to be another eurojank hill?
I feel like Bloober could deliver on combat considering SH is shit combat 90% of the time.

I'm not too concerned about gameplay, hopefully it won't be incredibly linear like The Medium but I have zero faith in Bloober handling the story, especially the direction of the voice acting. I'm not even a die-hard SH2 fan when it comes to the story so I'm not coming from an angle that nobody can nail it, but I played The Medium from front to back last weekend and my lord, for everything that Bloober got right, they did 3 things horribly wrong. The story was just pure cringe, melodrama grief porn. I think Bloober is gonna jump the shark with SH2 cause it seems like they can't help themselves.

I predict great atmosphere with a few legit scares coupled with a narrative that makes you roll your eyes. The kind of game that makes you say, "Just fu**ing get on with it!"

Also, AITD Remake > SH2 Remake. I'm hyped for AITD, that looks like it could be absolute gold.

Were you whining when Rise or Tomb Raider, Medium, Stalkers 2, Scorn were announced Xbox Exclusive?

Yeah... i though so.

These are gamepass deals, which means a fat paycheck during development for indie developers.

ROTR deal was not ideal. But that IP is ubiquitous so can wheather a few bad decisions.

Silent Hill is funded by Konami fully, yet is exclusive for a weird reason. They tried this approach before also but hasn't resulted in it becoming widely known. They need to change their approach.

Did you get them from Gog or Steam?

My only x86 PC will be the steam deck so will be a bit limited for a while lol.

It all sounds like trash except for possibly SH f and even that has potential issues. I don't know why Konami can't just to try to get one game right and go from there. This scatter shot approach was a disaster the last time they tried it.
I dunno... These look a little better to me than when they attempted that in the past with downpour, hd collection, and shattered memories. When they gonna put SH 1-4 on PS Plus Premium?

The negative nancies simply want a super high-end REMASTER, not a remake.

But that misses the point of this Silent Hill revival. Because clearly, even the
fan patched "enhanced SH2" version floating on the internet, was not saving
the franchise from slipping into oblivion in regards to mass market audiences of today.

In order to keep the hallmark phenomenon that SH2 is, from oblivion - is to reinterpret it in
a way that generates interest from that target audience. A remaster aimed at purist fans of the first hour - like 44 year old me - would not be able to create that bridge to the future of this franchise.

Those are the same deals, gamepass or not gamepass, it's paying to prevent the games to not release on playstation. And MS even bought Publishers to also go next level on locking games to not release on playstation. Stop thinking Phil is a care bear that want to save humanity.

And you don't know what's behind the deal of SH2. Sony could have brought materials like mocap stuffs and cie. Stop acting like you know everything going on behind doors.

lol true, I do feel many need to consider a lot of the bad moves Konami has done in the past. I'll still buy it, maybe not day 1, I'll wait a week to see if they done fucked it up lol
If it has the same dark areas and the creepiness of the original then this just jumped up to #3 or #4 on my most anticipated game's list
