109 million MAU, so probably a lot.

What's the source for this?
I would wager a lot of those people are still PS3 users in third world countries. PlayStation 5 game sales shitting all over PS4 game sales of the same titles tells you that real activity on PlayStation 4 is very low.

You know there's over 115 million PS4's sold, right? And you think more people play on PS3?
47 million PS+ subscribers, those aren't all PS3 gamers.

It really doesn't matter how many people are subbed, it's about level of activity. I'm subbed to GamePass and I touch my Xbox like once a month and for PS+ about the same. The fact that PS5 game sales are dumping on PS4 game sales of the same titles is very telling of the actual level of human activity on the previous platform.

Having 115 million consoles sold doesn't have anything to do with retention. A sizeable chuck of those consoles will be dead, in closets, collecting dust on entertainment centers, in pawn shops or GameStop for resale etc.

Nobody cares about the level of "activity", they care that you pay.

The PS4 sits in a lot of homes, with a lot of different kind of gamers, the non-enthusiasts get it by default (or they get a Switch I guess)... and by this time in the gen many who aren't hard core probably forgot they have it, replay old games, or keep playing the same online game 90% of the time.

What do you game on the rest of the month? PC? Retro consoles? NeoGaf?

But PS4 is > Xbox One & Series consoles in this case (21% v 20%).
That's a lot of consoles in closets.

People will stop saying it when it stops being true.

The evidence is clearly bearing out what has been theorized would happen this entire time.

Developers and publishers seem less concerned about Gamepass than some of you.
I mean EA puts their Play catalog on Gamepass already.
Things must be good happening behind the scenes. :messenger_halo: :messenger_ok:

I don't remember Xbox community celebrating price increases. While on Playstation I hear all the time how they are paying 70$+ for the "value". Some even claimed that they would pay even more - for example for Starfield. And I am not joking as the guy literally said that "I would pay 100+ for that". I saw bunch of twitter posts that showed a set of PS4 games that cost overall 700$ and was telling the stories about "the value" and "quality".

I mean, Playstation community will always try to find the justification for whatever Sony does. There were even takes like "I payed more than 70$ in 90s so it is okay if the price increases further". And I read it literally today or yesterday.

I don't hear that from Xbox side. In fact Xbox fans are called the "bungie fans" because they always complain. On PC or Nintendo - people don't care in general though.
Remember when you made excuses to why they intended to increase XBL Gold prices to 60$ per 6 months?

Looks to me like you didnt care about the price increase either and tried to find justification for what MS did ("move people to GPU faster").

This is interesting, taking myself as an example, looking at my library I tend to buy disc versions on Playstation and most of my Xbox collection is digital. I am UK based. and I have lots more games on my Xbox than playstation.

Yes this is a very healthy attitude if you want game developers to stop creating games for your platform. I think gamepass is a very bad precedent and if I were a publisher, after seeing these drastic differences in sales a few more times, I would drop publishing on the Xbox consoles. It’s not worth the money if you don’t get any sales.
You shouldn't become a publisher then, because you'd leave guaranteed money on the table. People still don't realize what's coming :messenger_beaming:

So? The backlash that MS got was so big that MS reverted the policy on the same day. That's the point.

So what about VRR? Isn't the best thing ever according to Riky Riky ? Damn people are dumb indeed...

Low quality bait.
This was another one of those games you get 6000 reward points if you buy digitally through the dash, you could get the game from a third party key seller and still get the reward so the cheapest way to buy is digitally.
What VRR has got to do with it I have no idea.

I bought it on the PS5 instead of the XSX simply because I had more free storage space on the PS5. They really need to give us some better storage options and soon. It's affecting purchase habits now lol

Point is that you critize fanboys for finding justification to anything that sony does, while on the other hand you do the same thing. You make it sound like only the sony community does this, which according to your own post is not true. Maybe you should hop off that console warring bs.

Yeah and it’s also interesting because, taking myself as an example, looking at my library, I only buy digital on PlayStation and all of my Xbox collection doesn’t exist. I have lots more games on my PlayStation than on the Xbox, which I don’t have.

It’s super interesting.

you see, opposed to you I own platforms from various manufacturers and my example actually made sense and it is relevant to this thread, yours on the other hand is another stupid attempt at trolling.

btw. Looking at your posting history you have got unhealthy obsession with Xbox without owning one, you should see a specialist or get an xbox already

Actually your anecdote is worth about the exact same as mine, but apparently you should see a specialist in “kids who don’t read good but still want to post trash online”.

Tell me how your little band camp story is relevant to the topic? Is this a topic about the buying habits of Xbox fans who also own a PlayStation?

Also take a hike with your gate keeping. Your post history is just a bunch of PS trolling, the whole “I have one” means zero.

Why do people keep saying this?

It's my experience. Most everyone I know who is more into anime, JRPG's, etc are Playstation gamers. I had a friend who was a huge PS fan, buy an Xbox just for Phantom Dust. He had no interest in Gears, Halo, etc.

Yeah, but people have stated that the sales numbers for Western-made games are the same too in the U.K. So it's not just "weeb" games.

Yeah f*cking right. Xbox fans were praising paying every month for something offered free for decades. Luckily i still enjoy free multiplayer on steam but rewind to a point where xbox users normalised paying for peer to peer connections, unlocking a netflix subscription, and f2p games and you would see the dumb shit xbox users used to call premium "value".

Oh really? Tell me what service comparable to Xbox Live has been available for decades on consoles? In fact I recall during PS2 people were saying that nobody plays online games on consoles (because of course if Sony doesn't do that, then nobody uses it). Xbox Live was a paid service for a reason (there was even tiers as far as I remember like Silver or something) and it had no competitors. Only much later Sony - forget Nintendo who discovered Internet recently - brought PSN and for a long time it was a hot mess and still shows its messy colors from time to time (PSN ID change anecdotes and so on).

People complaining about paid multiplayer just don't remember how crappy was the online infrastructure before Xbox Live. Xbox Live essentially introduced friend lists, voice chat and matchmaking. Also database normalization but that's just a little joke :messenger_tears_of_joy: (Hello, PSN). I am not sure and maybe wrong, but Xbox Live as a service was superior to consumer facing PC solutions at that time. I think only with Steam similar features came to PC. Essentially it was a service, worth its price.

Whether it is worth to pay it right now on consoles is an entirely different kind of flying and a question people ask after almost 20 years. In fact a lot of people pay for Xbox Live simply due to inertia (I paid 10 years ago, I pay now). Ideally all Xbox Live people supposed to migrate to GPU, considering how many favorable deals MS made for that, but people did not (they are migrating but not fast enough to scrap a paywall). Xbox Live Gold is a service will eventually retire, but not until Game Pass reaches a critical mass - consumer services are just too profitable to scrap them now.

Case in point above. Steam is still doing all this, for free. MSN Zones even did this free. MS themselves did this for free on PC. There is no difference between you not complaining, but actually praising, having to pay for online multiplayer and somebody not complaining about having to buy a game because of its 'value'. What happened to "xbox fans complain"? It's utter nonsense. The fact that so many defended always online and no second hand sales later too is another prime example. Microtransactions in most their games people defended too. There are warriors on both sides. your ideas that PS fans are crazies for buying games and xbox fans normies for subscribing, and PS fans are suckers who don't complain and xbox fans not just shows me you are likely one of them.

Xbox fans, they don’t practice what they preach. Can’t wait for the excuses when xbox gets adaptive triggers.

With every game sales ratio being 80 % or more towards Playstation vs Xbox, you have to wonder if MS can ultimately make Gamepass business profitable on the long run. If they cannibalize their own software sales too much, it won't work.

It is hard to draw any conclusions from this without knowing the answer to these two questions:

1. What is the ratio of PlayStation owners to Xbox owners in the UK?
2. Are Xbox owners more likely to purchase games digitally? If so, by how much?

So many defended always online? huh? It was absolutely shitted on and made fun of only for it to be accepted by the gaming community a few years later. Once again xbox was ahead of everyone else in something. Lol

1. Xbox doesn't release hardware numbers anymore, so we likely won't get this information. We know that PS5 has sold more than Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S. But does PlayStation have a 4:1 lead over Xbox in the UK as the software sales split suggests? I don't have the numbers, but this seems a bit unlikely to me.

2. No. Although we don't have official numbers, whatever little data we have indicates that PlayStation gets more digital downloads. For now, I think it's safe to assume that both have an equal digital sales ratio.

because you can only play the new EA games on EA Play for 10 hours. The rest are old games (not to discount EAs games at all).

I wonder how many active Xbox gamers there are. I bet Game Pass is up to 28-30 million subs. Probably a 90% adoption rate by Series console purchasers. I personally don't buy the claim that Game Pass subscribers buy more games. Why wouldn't Sony gamers buy more games when they don't have access to Game Pass? I haven't bought a game since Returnal and I only bought that to validate my PS5 purchase. I regret spending $70 on it. So yeah, indirectly GP is good for Sony since I am more likely to get even the ho-hum Sony exclusives.
